Yeah a few folks made your complaint on being OTT.

Watched it today again with family n little sis hadn't seen any so we put on JP1 prior. Such a good film. On death front

there's pretty much just the lawyer in one bite, much like security guy, n the hunters (mostly hidden) with Nedrys been the long drawn out death of sorts. And he "deserves" it, in JW it's the military guy n his is quite short. It just didn't fit, unlike others she was pretty "innocent", kinda adds a pretty sour note.

The Guest

I'd heard good things, and it's certainly the sort of film where you don't want to know too much going in. Anyway, it's a great thriller with a dark sense of humour and anchored by a charismatic performance from Dan Stevens.

Makes sense that he beat off all those American men to get the part.

I quite enjoyed Terminator Genisys.

I'm interested to see where they plan to go with it. Adding in

Skynet as a singular entity in Matt Smith is interesting as it kind of means that it can't be wholly "taken down" in the usual method of wiping out hte central facility to win the war.

I guess yeah usual complaints of it covering old ground of Arnie as a good Terminator

Though if they'd not put the big spoiler in then the scene shooting John Connor might have temporarily seemed to turn the tables, since his allegiance was brought into question given no one knows or can find out who or why he was sent back

, and having a T-1000 (of which Robert Patrick will always be the perfect T-1000. The right air of menance, and yet able to be trusted to a degree).

It's a sequel to Judgement Day, it will be one of those things where it can never be as good as it's predecessors cos 99% of films don't come close either. But compared to the trash that was Rise of the Machines (I liked Salvation, though once again: stupid trailer spoilers), it's pretty damn fine. Jason Clarke is pretty cool as John Connor, though Linda Hamilton is irreplaceable as Sarah Connor (Though I hear the SCC's are meant to be a good watch).

If you like the Terminator mythos it's a good watch.

X-men: Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut.

Rogue is still barely in it, but she's in it.

That being said the new stuff is mostly good, but for theaters it would have been too long. The best thing about it its that it makes the future stuff a lot less boring during the halfway point. Aside from the intro and the end, the future shit felt like it was interrupting the past stuff in a bad way. The Rogue stuff adds something interesting to it. Overall its about a 5 minute scene and the rest of the extra stuff is sprinkled throughout the rest of the movie. Theres also another long scene that I honestly didnt care for in the past. Its fine I guess.

I liked Days so more of it was a good thing to me.

The extra stuff doesnt really "fix" the movie, so if you didnt like the theatrical cut, this wont change your mind. But if you want more of the movie, its worth watching this version.

And this has nothing to do with it, but I really dont like Jennifer Lawrence in these movies. Her Mystique is such an idiotic asshole. Shes just really unlikable. The only reason her and Ellen Page got big roles in this one was because they both got famous inbetween their original appearances in the franchise and this one. I never felt Mystique was that important. She sure as fuck wasnt in the first 3 movies.

Neither was Kitty, but Ellen Page is at least likeable.

In general I just dont get the Jennifer Lawrence hype. She's cute I guess.

Another weird thing I noticed that I hadnt noticed before is that Hugh Jackman got super ripped for the movie but barely fights in it. He has no fight scenes. Its so weird. Luckily he's a good actor so he doent have to rely on action.

It does have a lot of problems(They could have gotten rid of Mystique completely and just have credited the black guy that could adapt in First Class as the reason the Sentinels have that ability), but I try to ignore them. I like most of the X-men movies, so I do my best to see past the flaws.

Im also a Metal Gear fan, so Ive had a lot of training in ignoring retcons and inconsistencies.

Mystique is pretty important to DofP in the original (though the Sentinels are independent of her). But I guess they changed enough that it could have been any mutant that'd kill [important figure]. Mystique had some set-up, compared to pulling one out their ass. The only other one might have been Havoc, but he was mostly "good".

I kinda stopped watching movies as much the past few years. I'd occasionally go see one in theaters or watch one at home if I was really interested in it but little more than that. So, I built up a bit of a backlog of movies. This week I've started working my way through it and, since none of them so far have been bad, I guess I'm just going to dump them all here.

The Wolverine

This was by far the worst one of the bunch. I don't even feel like talking about it all that much. It wasn't bad or anything but overall just kind of seriously meh. I can't believe I put off watching Days of Future Past this long because I felt like I needed to watch this one first...

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Now this one I enjoyed a lot. It's been a while since I've rewatched X2 but I've long held it as one of the best superhero movies ever made and I think DoFP is at the very least a very close second, if not the new number one of the series. I loved First Class but this was much better in every single way. It was especially nice seeing the old cast again. Really looking forward to Apocalypse, now.

The World's End.

This is another one I'm not sure why I've put off watching for this long. I enjoyed both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz and I remember looking forward to it prior to its release but I never got around to watching it until now, for some reason. It's been too long since I've watched the first two to really compare it to them but on its own I thought it was pretty enjoyable. Oh and it had some surprisingly well choreographed fight scenes for what's pretty much a sci-fi comedy. They have this energy to them that was actually kind of funny in how unexpected it was.

John Wick.

I didn't really know a whole lot about this one. Just the basic premise and that it was apparently one of the best action movies in recent years. It was a nice surprise that it somehow managed to live up to such high praise. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I'm not sure I see the same franchise potential everyone else seems to. But whatever, if the sequel is also this good I won't be complaining.

Gone Girl.

Watched this one tonight. Finished it like 15 mins ago, actually. David Fincher has yet to make a film I haven't loved (well, Benjamin Button was kinda whatever) but I didn't expect this one to blow me away like this. This might actually be my second favorite of his after Fight Club. I somehow managed to remain unspoiled even after this long and thank fucking God for that. Once the movie hit the halfway reveal, I had no idea where the fuck it was going to go and I fucking love that in a movie. Especially when it comes to this kind of mystery/thriller. When the credits rolled, I just started laughing my ass off. In a very good way.

I'm still not entirely sure whether I loved or hated the ending.

That's it for now, I think. The next one I'll be watching will probably be Birdman. I've heard so much high praise for it that I can't help but have similarly high expectations. Hopefully I won't be disappointed.

Though I enjoyed John Wick, I thought it lacked in something.  I couldn't pin one thing down other than some realism issues.  But, Keanu has something I just can't resist.  Worth seeing at least once, though I'll probably go back for seconds on this one.

My wife fell asleep during Gone Girl and woke up with a 'hell no I ain't watchin' that piece of shit again!' attitude.  It stars Ben Affleck.  The 15 minutes I watched made me leave the room due to boredom.  Not my cup of tea.

I really liked The Wolverine up until the Silver Samurai showed up. Overall I think it's good, especially the directors cut.

It's definitely watchable and it has some really good action sequences. But I found it pretty underwhelming overall. It's a massive improvement over the last standalone Wolverine movie, though.

Yeah, John Wick is kind of shallow. You really need to love straight up action movies to enjoy it, because there really isn't much else to it.

Gonna have to completely disagree about Gone Girl, though. Without getting into spoilers, 15 mins really isn't enough to properly get what kind of movie it is. The first half was pretty standard "Did Ben Affleck kill his wife?" mystery stuff but the movie shifts gears about halfway through and that's where it really won me over. But I dunno, I love mysteries and I love David Fincher, so the movie definitely had that going for it before it even started.

I watched Interstellar the other night. Was slightly marred by my unsuccessful attempts to make popcorn beforehand.

Other than that it was a pretty good film, fairly plausible premise (in the whole dust/blight stuff. Less so on "handy wormholes start opening up". I'd see the tesseract stuff from a VFX reel/making-off (most of it was real apparently) but it was no less impressive. Quite enjoyed it heavily subverted the whole "robots will kill you all" trope most sci-fi films like this have (they were really super helpful throughout, extremely useful to have and seemed to care a fair bit. I liked the whole "humour setting" stuff and their references to it. "I do have a discretion setting Cooper".

Yeah, great visuals, on top.

Got Gravity to watch (and John Wick). Now I've a cool set up in my room to slide out this couch n pop something on my tele I'm probs gonna watch more films than I have been. Though PS4 might slow it down again now :P

Ant Man. It was quite good, though I did have a couple of niggles:

The biggest one was how the whole "running from police" aspect could have been avoided if, instead of BREAKING OUT OF JAIL Pym had just come to the police and been like "look, guys, I hired this dude to test my security, the break-in was legit, but my daughter wasn't aware and called the police."

My only other issue was that we got yet another evil CEO as the bad guy.

Ant-Man.

Funny and fun. I don't have any real complaints (just a few niggles like Ethan) but it never really "soars" at any point. That might just be the consequence of being a more light-hearted heist film and the fact that nearly all the actual drama is resolved early on. I like how it ties into the MCU, and that post-credits scene is interesting (once you figure out the thing you couldn't quite hear them say was "the accords").

Also appreciated that the big finale takes place in a little kid's bedroom, especially after they mention the Avengers dropping cities on people.

Just seen Ant-Man, and yeah there's some "formulaic"* elements to it but overall pretty fun. I guess it's the first of the new wave of "let's introduce new people to the Avengers/MCU roster" (since Phase 2 was mostly sequels, with GotG being a sort of lone movie atm). Kinda hope future ones aren't as "we should bring in the avengers". I can see why with some elements that Edgar Wright might have left cos some of it heavily crammed in Ultron stuff (which either Ultron was written quite a long time ago, or Ant-Man had a lot of "late in the game" rewriting).

But overall was a fun film, though Langs' accomplice stole the show "but thankfully they had a nice rose" with most scenes he was in. May he have a good film career. Judy Greer was like a massive "suck you out the film". Like seeing her as the mum in Jurassic World just a couple weeks ago really didn't help there.

As for the finale

I wish more of it was at a macro view point, I guess maybe it might have worn its welcome quickly. I dunno, I'd have maybe edited it a bit differently. Also I'd have worked on Anthony some more, build him up as Bucky/sidekick levels for more meaningful impact. Than random tool used for air transport.

Come on, that was Chekovs Tank
