Mr. GOH!
Spotlight. Great movie about the newspaper that uncovered the Catholic Church's child rapist protection system.
Popular Post deanb
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Amazed no one else has seen this yet. Probably another under-the-radar film. It's pretty good, I'd recommend it while in cinemas. Got quite an old school vibe to it, though a few touches of the newer Star Trek films. Anywho also just watch Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Has a lot of praise and I'll join in on that. Vinny is particularly good.
Strangelove
The Hateful Eight. It's pretty rad.
TCP
I also watched The Hateful Eight. I can back up Strangelove's (who's back from the dead??) claim, it is, indeed, rad.
deanb
How'd you guys see it? Regular or the 70mm Roadshow release? (or award show screener... )
TheMightyEthan
It's not open to regular release until next week, this week is only the 70mm road show.
Mr. GOH!
All leaked copies, I assume because this forum (like the rest of the internet) is filled to the brim with folks who think nothing of downloading and sharing torrent files of stolen movies, and the Hateful 8 (and The Revenant) were both leaked in a high-profile multi-movie screener leak in the past week or so. I cannot wait to see both in the theater; probably going to see Hateful 8 on January 2. Edited December 24, 2015 by Mr. GOH!
deanb
It's not open to regular release until next week, this week is only the 70mm road show. I was under impression that premiers tomorrow. Mr Goh is likely more on the money. I imagine I'll watch eventually. I enjoy Tarantino films but not enough to go out of way. The Roadshow sounds neat though.
TheMightyEthan
Tomorrow is the 70mm limited opening at 100 theaters, December 31 is the wide release at regular theaters, at least in the US. *Edit - Just looked into the leak. There's something mildly amusing about people watching a leaked DVD quality screener of a movie that the director made such a big deal about filming in 65mm and showing in 70mm. I probably won't see it in theaters, but will make every effort to acquire a 4k copy of some kind for my home viewing pleasure. And that sentence is probably enough to give Tarantino a heart attack just so he can roll over in his grave. TheMightyEthan
Movies (and the rare TV show that is on neither Netflix nor Hulu) are all I pirate anymore.

Mister Jack
I just got back from a 70mm Roadshow showing of The Hateful Eight that I went to see with my friend. I don't know which version the rest of you guys were watching, but this one was three hours long. The movie itself was pretty enthralling, but I also have to mention that the mere experience of going to see it in the theater was strangely fun for me. I had to drive about an hour to go to the really nice theater that was showing it, but when I went inside they were actually passing out playbills for people seeing the film. There were no bullshit ads or previews before the movie began. There was a brief orchestral overture that played while people were coming in to find their seats, but after that the movie started straight away without so much as a PSA about turning off your cell phone. Halfway through the film there was an actual intermission, and thank god there was because I definitely needed a bathroom break by then. It also gave me a chance to talk with my friend for a bit about what we thought of the movie so far, at least until the music started back up and we had to find our seats again. I know it's all very simple, minor details that I'm describing here that don't sound like much on paper, but it all came together to make a unique experience for me that I thought was worth the drive.
deanb
Here's SLJ describing the experience for you. Sounds, apart from 70mm part, like kind of thing cinemas might want to give a shot at. With HD n 4K at home all cinemas are is a pricey way to see a film sooner on a larger screen. Roadshow style makes it an experience.
TCP
I finally caught up to 2013 and watched Her last night. Oh man. [insert about a million crying gifs here] It was so good though.

TheFlyingGerbil
I watched Tangled for the second time yesterday. it was better than I remembered it. In fact I would put it on the list of films I'd happily watch whenever I saw it on TV and am even contemplating a 3D blu ray purchase. TheMightyEthan
Tangled was the movie that made me realize that Pixar is not the only good computer-animated-kids-movie studio.
deanb
Well it is a Disney film... Also what's wrong with Dreamworks? Their sequels can be stinkers (which isn't exactly an issue Pixar has escaped from either) but likes of Shrek, Megamind, Madagascar etc.
TheMightyEthan
Shrek was good, but that's not really a kids movie, and the rest haven't really done it for me. I mean, they're not painful to watch like lots of other non-Disney kids movies, but they're not what I would call "good" either.

deanb
You mention Madagascar over Kung-Fu Panda? For shame. I was just rattling off. Kung Fu Panda is really effing good though.
TheMightyEthan
Kung Fu Panda I have not seen. Generally speaking Jack Black is a turn off for me in movies, though that's not a hard and fast rule.
