deanb
Give it a watch, opening is great. Sort of Samaria Jack feel to it Also Ian McShance is great villain too. edit: rest of film is 3D, pretty much split second after the above video ends. edit 2: Puts Kung Fu Panda on in background
Mister Jack
I thought Kung Fu Panda would just be stupid slapstick for 90 minutes but it's a legit kung fu movie if you give it a chance.
TheFlyingGerbil
IT'S the only film I could bear jack black in so there is hope for you TME. Possibly because you don't have to look at his annoying face and only his annoying voice.

TCP
Love & Mercy: a great biopic on Brian Wilson. I knew about the 60s stuff but I'm not the biggest Beach Boys fan, the whole situation in the 80's is completely fucked. Cusack did a great job playing '80s Wilson, and Paul Dano nailed the classic Wilson persona of the '60s.
TCP
Just watched Ex Machina. It's like Taylor Swift once said, players are gonna play.
Mr. GOH!
The Revenant. Brutal but entertaining. Beautifully shot.
danielpholt
Ant-Man. I'm hesitant to say it's simply 'Okay' as I genuinely did enjoy my time with it, but I wouldn't call it 'Great' either. It's a fun Marvel movie. At this point, that's all I really want from them. TheMightyEthan
Sounds like it would go in the good movie thread then. (It's not the "great" movie thread )

TCP
The RevenantFucking beautiful cinematography. Lots of it was shot in areas around me, in winter no less, so it was cool to see that on film. Basically though, it made me never want to go hunting. Hot Heart
Deadpool It's really good. Moves along at a reasonable pace, has more heart than you'd expect, and there's inventiveness in its action scenes. Ryan Reynolds is a perfect fit and Morena Baccarin is great. However, it throws out so many quickfire gags during certain bits that I'm sure I just missed some or maybe didn't fully appreciate the references (not being that familiar with the comics nor older American culture). The Rosie O'Donnell reference is still there, but not any of the others that would suggest some of it takes place in the '90s (it doesn't). Of course, now that we've reached the "post-modern" part of the genre cycle, superhero films must be on their way out/ready for a complete reboot to "classic"... TCP
Deadpool A pretty good movie filmed in the great Canadian city of Vancouver starring the great Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson AKA Deadpool. They even name drop the not-so-great Canadian city of Regina, so that's cool. Colossus was pretty rad as well, and he has a Russian accent now which is pretty important for a Russian character, though that kind of doesn't make sense since in the last X-Men movie he didn't. Anyways, it was pretty funny and the action was pretty great. The scale of the film was much smaller than most X-Men films these days which is actually kind of refreshing. Now I just want to see a fully blown X-Men movie Deadpool in it.
Mister Jack
Another thumbs up for Deadpool! It's one of the coolest and hands down the funniest comic book movie I've ever watched.

deanb
I'll join in on the Deadpool action. Pretty good. It's neat. I think in the long run it won't hold up in the grand scheme of things, but I think it just might help either help or hinder the other super hero films (which was weird to not see Civil War trailer before this. Got BvS and Apocalypse though. I guess there's the "Sky Q" advert sorta had Age of Ultron in it) Certainly funniest, but I don't think any of the other comic book films have really tried it. It was certainly pretty rich with references in it. They even made a Blade one (folks remember Reynolds as Deadpool and Green Lantern but rarely his role in Blade...which is a Marvel comic ). Also pretty sure there's an unofficial crossover Given the finale is a fight on a decommissioned Helicarrier, and there's Hydra Bob there would sorta "imply" it's Hydra that gave him his powers. Obviously nothing is said for legal reasons (in fact not even like a mere reference. Like it's clearly a helicarrier but unless I missed it no one even mentions "hey your ship has giant fucking helicarrier engines stuck to the side") And for your viewing pleasure:
danielpholt
Deadpool Not breaking any news here, but the films fantastic. Not overly ambitious in scope (which is nice for a genre that too often falls back on the 'SAVE THE WORLD' trope), absolutely hilarious and perfectly aware of what it is, and who it's audience are. danielpholt
The Full Monty. First time I've seen this, which I believe is a crime punishable by death in some parts of the UK. Its not aged terribly well, and it's politics are very outdated (I've never heard 'puff' said so many times) but its funny, engaging and left me feeling pretty good about life. deanb
Full Monty is such a British film. Lot of films like that in the 90s (Billy Elliot another big one). The crime used to be punishable by being thrown down a mineshaft but err...yeah.
Mister Jack
Zootopia. Honestly I went into this one expecting nice animation paired with 90 minutes of cheap animal stereotype gags, but it turned out to be a pretty thoughtful allegory about race relations. Those same animal stereotypes that are usually used for simple jokes are treated like hurtful stereotypes in this world, and there's real issues of trust and profiling between the predator and prey communities (this is a world where predator animals long ago evolved past their need to eat prey animals). The characters were very well written, especially the rabbit protagonist, Judy, who is quite lovable and clever but also ignorant in the sense that she thinks calling a predator an "articulate fellow" is a genuine compliment. This movie was surprisingly mature for its premise, and in my opinion the best film to come out of DAS since....I dunno, I'd have to go pretty far back. I would love to see a sequel someday. deanb
What We Do In The Shadows Was recommended by someone, and it was on Netflix other day when I was browsing for something to watch in the background. Was pretty funny, though in a way quite short too. Was a good parody of the various types of vampires from the Nosferatu style through to the more modern-ish Twilight types. And also slightly mocking the fact that documentary film makers seem to be able to go anywhere. If wanting something a bit light hearted give it a watch.
deanb
Totally forgot that at my mums took it as an excuse to watch Stardust (all other movies she has I've either seen, or little interest in cos they're like rom coms n shit) I've tried to watch this many times, but for some reason I end up stopping around about when the star lands, so figured this was good as time as any to watch. My first impression of it is since last watching it I now kinda recognised the main actor, after looking up it's Matt Murdock with sight. Overall it's a pretty good "romp", and with the amount of british actor cameos in it I think "romp" is the right word and De Niro just enforces it as the cherry on top. The dead sword dueling was great too. And just now watched In (fucking) Bruges. I believe this is a fairly watched film. It's oddly dark. Yet a lot of humour from the absurd situations and...very "room with a view and a staircase and a pond" type and poking at it, but yeah gets rather dark which makes for quite the flip flop in tone and stark contrast and kind of not wanting to laugh cos of how dark its gotten. Also it likely gets its own "move says its own name" supercut.
Hot Heart
In Bruges is awesome. Everything the McDonagh brothers have done has been great.
danielpholt
Steve Jobs Not sure what people were smoking when seeing this, I genuinely thought it was great. Went in expecting to hate it (thanks critics) but I can't fault it. Arguably one of my favourite films of 2015
