Fun fact: the Articles of Confederation required unanimity to amend, so when there were problems instead of changing them the instead drafted the Constitution and put in it that it would go into effect once 2/3 of the states ratified it, rather than requiring unanimity. Most states ratified it quickly, but Rhode Island held out, so the remaining states occupied them until they ratified it too.

Barely a week passes since leaving a union that has been peaceful for decades after centuries of conflict and...

anigif_enhanced-19320-1394020563-4.gif

Also wanting to spend £500million on changing the colour of passports. Leave voters must be fuming at that, it's clearly money that could be better spent on the NHS.

Also calls for pre-decimalisation currency.

Oh and the death penalty and for some reason incandescent bulbs

It really hammers home the whole "most of the folks who voted to leave the EU will be dead by the time we've formally left". I'm surprised (and sickened) there's such a large following for bringing back capital punishment.

We should probably put lead back into the petrol, and get rid of the internet, probably do re-runs of "Hiel Honey, I'm Home", get rid of renewable energy, make all our phones have different charging ports again. The good old days!

A snap general election. She kept that one quiet. It will be depressing hearing them all spout their vitriol again though at least it won't be for too long. It'll  be a very big surprise if Conservatives don't get back in I'd imagine as Labour are a mess and Lib Dems seem to have gone from reviled to total obscurity. My only hopes are now we've had the EU fiasco referendum, UKIP will get less votes and SNP lose some ground to shut Sturgeon up for a bit.

We must use this GE to get rid of the "saboteurs" of the brexit process, those who would rather we remain!

Oh wait...

edit: Also for the GE to go ahead it'd require a super majority that conservatives don't have. If it wasn't for the fact Labour is a totally piss poor "opposition" at the moment tories wouldn't even manage to pass it and in stead would be passing a vote that they're shit government :P

But yeah, crappy labour opposition.

A council seat was just decided by the drawing of straws because there was a tie. In case you ever think your vote won't matter.

Also our current PM is as usual a blustering idiot and we're gonna end up totally fucked as she pisses off the rest of the EU.

The Lib Dems  can't afford to look a gift horse in the mouth. I bet they're chuffed.

If the General Election is decided by votes rather than a game of conkers between candidates, I'm sure you'll all find use for this handy voting guide:

After seeing these local election results, I really do despair.

You might rejoice that UKIP are being "wiped out" but it's only because the Tories have taken their platform. And I'm seeing the "progressive alliance" for tactical voting means fuck all in some regions. I'd like to think that it's more related to local issues and not representative of a larger pattern, but a modern opposition never loses this many seats. The pattern seems to be "The Tories have never gained so much/Labour lost so much in the past 40 years, etc." and Labour can do sod all about it.

Most people don't really pay that much attention to politics -- I think a study concluded it was something like an average of 15 minutes a week -- and so they grab onto the most identifiable slogans and sound bites. It's all about clear messaging, which Labour simply does not have. They are a fucking shambles at the moment and I see all the Labour canvassers are hearing "I'm not voting for Corbyn." Meanwhile, Tories parrot this "strong and stable" bollocks ad nauseam because it latches onto some subconscious part of boomers' brains instead of them noticing that the last 7 years of Tories has fucked everything and will do so for their children and grandchildren. Thing is, though, even that slogan has only reached about 15% of the electorate (so a poll says), which means we'll be hearing it a lot more for the rest of this month.

I really don't see the Labour party making any progress until they ditch Corbyn. People will go for personality over politics and he clearly doesn't appeal to a wide range of people (the party membership that swelled in response to his leadership nomination is predominantly middle class and located in south east England, if not London specifically). And at critical moments (EU referendum, Livingstone) it seems he manages to take the route that alienates everyone, so half are saying he's gone too far while the other side will say he didn't go far enough.

And it begs the question whether centrism needs to make a comeback or... wait until an actual political revolution? I mean, seriously, there can only be one outcome to growing inequality, right? That's a whole 'nother big topic.

Anyway, I really don't know what to do. I know who I'll be voting for locally, based on some process of deduction, but it's still probably got John Redwood the flaming idiot in a safe seat.

Yeah seems it was more of a 24hr ban, mainly to send a message without completely compromising the usefulness of intelligence sharing. Bit of a shit show from the US front (and May ain't happy as it provides ammo for people to question wisdom of data sharing).

In "funner" news pretty much everyone in the UK over last couple days has gotten a text from their network pointing out they get free roaming across the EU from next month. So one to add to the "what did the EU ever do for us?" pile.

Technically atm we don't have any government and might not for a couple days. If May is unable to get a deal (and is aiming for DUP being the party for that deal), then Labour can always try and form a coalition or form minority government.

It is pretty amazing in like almost all corners. UKIP lost their deposit on like 300 seats, Labour won more votes than even Labour in '97, one of highest turnouts in a long while, there was a couple places where the win was super close (East Fife being the biggy with just 2 vote win). She called this election and polls put them at a massive landslide win, but instead May just proved to be absolutely terrible and brought their lead down that they've lost their majority and currently scrambling to form a minority or coalition government. Oh and EU have had to kind of extend a bit of a olive branch and say that we can wait a little bit to start negotiations until current government is sorted (which is all Mays fault too for announcing a GE before negotiations are due to start). It's currently 5:30pm and I'm amazed that May is still leader of the Tory party. She makes pig fucker look pretty dang good and he's the one that called the EU ref.

edit: oh nope, seems that she has gone n formed government with with DUP. yaay! :/ Still surprised May is PM though.

I love popbitch

And finally

Anyway we're loving laughing at Theresa May's failure. But we are basically the passengers on the Titanic giggling at captain crashing into iceberg.

And we'll leave the final word to @liamyoung who says,"To be fair Theresa May warned of coalition of chaos propped up by extremist terrorist sympathisers. She just didn't say she'd be leading it."
