staySICK
every forum needs this thread. I haven't gotten around to putting a launcher bar back up; and with win 7 you really don't need to, I just used the pinned option. My wallpaper changes every 6 hours; I'll dropbox any walls that people want. 1680x1050

toxicitizen
This is only one of the wallpaper I have on rotation. It changes every 6 hours and they're all of upcoming games I'm looking forward to. The current line-up consists of Crysis 2, Portal 2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. You don't understand, really, but it's more of the fact that I hardly ever use my desktop at all other than just a transitory dumping ground. I always just launch my apps through a launcher (I use Alfred) and my frequent use of different desktop spaces and window access finding (Spaces and Exposé, respectively) always just hides the desktop away from my view most of the time. I just forget about my desktop during my regular work. Ugh, my brain of thought is slipping.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Even your launcher is convoluted though!
AcidCrownie
And I'm with Mudkip. The Dock on a Mac means that everything is instantly accesible. Through either the applications folder, or through a launcher. I use my desktop as a dumping ground for files that I need quick access to. As for my desktop, I just cleaned it off (It had 2.1GB worth of stuff on it), and currently only need my P90x videos, so there they are. ixa
my taskbar is usually hidden, but I felt like he should be in the picture anyway.
Akuam4n
My Desktop when I had a mac: Now: I prefer to keep it quite clean. I'm too lazy to bust out rainmeter on my PC.

Bouchart
I use the default Windows XP desktop. I haven't changed it since I needed to reformat my computer 4 years ago.

D-K
@Mud: If that was my desktop, I'd be in fetal position sobbing with every startup. I cannot stand desktop clutter. Anything over 2-3 folders activates the clutter-alert. I usually have nothing on my desk, nothing, nada, zip, no shortcuts, no nothing. Here be D-K's:
deanb
Basically Ethan is so lazy he's not touched his desktop since he first got Win 7 I've currently got no background as I've being watching a fair amount of tutorial videos and working in Maya. All black means it's low on distractions. This is what it looks like 90% of the time: http://dl.dropbox.co...screenblack.JPG Oh yeah my second screen is smaller in physical size and resolution, and cos everything's black you can't make that out. The other Fences on screen 2 are at the top.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Messy desktops and icons on the desktop when you use windows 7 saddens me
deanb
If they make a magic jumplist that can just be the catergories above, then I'd probably take most of them down. But as it stands it's a much quicker way of opening programs up for them to be on the desktop.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Don't even give me that. You have 3 seperate firefox icons. Not to mention you could just use the search bar.
deanb
Oh so I do. Ones for Firefox 3 and the other for the FF4 beta. I hadn't realised I'd doubled up on FF3 icons There that's now sorted. Also opening up Start everytime, then typing in what I want, then waiting for it to find it and hoping that it picks it up (pretty pot luck) is going to be pretty super boring when I can just got the desktop and instantly get what I want all with just the mouse. Strangelove
You can never have enough Firefox icons.
deanb
You did click the 'this is what it looks like 90% of the time' link right? Also your steps assume it correctly finds it. When it comes to the games especially it struggles most of the time.
rainetemplar
This thread needs a woman's touch. Since I just purchased some new games, I decided to leave the icons on my desktop. Looking at it I noticed I have shortcuts to programs I don't even use, so I have to delete those. I really like yours, AcidCrownie.
D-K
I noticed Strangelove has a Grim Fandango shortcut, perhaps he can answer your question concerning its performance.
