Harvest Moon / Rune Factory

I came on at Harvest Moon 64. That game was amazing. I loved it a ridiculous amount. Playing that game when it was raining, then having it rain in the game as well and deciding to stay in or go farming anyway was the ultimate cozy to me.

I was really disappointed with the next game they released though, for PS2. You could only play it for one in-game year, and then had to start over again. Such a let-down after being able to go on practically forever.

I haven't played any others since.

Have there been any worth buying?

I have a Wii, so technically that means I could get one of the Gamecube ones if I bought a GC controller somehow.

They definitely have a lot for the DS, now. The PS2 was a cheap knock off. You're supposed to be able to run up to 20-50 years in game. Get married, have kids, farm a crap ton. Raise animals. That kinda thing.

Rune Factory series takes on a little more of a fantasy RPG twist to it. Right now I'm back into 2.

Radiant, any gal out of 2 you like in particular? I married Ceci at first, my second game I'm going for Dorothy.

I'm pretty sure there was a Rune Factory game for Wii, I would recommend that. The RF series adds some light dungeon crawling/RPG elements that keep things interesting. I also like the art style better.

I LOVE Dorothy, she is adorable. Every single quest for her had me d'awing.

Yeah, I've heard good things about Rune Factory. I might have to give it a shot if I find it on sale one of these days.

I was currently playing Rune Factory 3 but stopped for a while due to having too much other games on hand. It's A LOT easier than 1 and 2 due to dying in the dungeons no longer gets you a game over and magic is incredibly strong in this game. Also, Summer is a total bitch with it's tornadoes and keeps wrecking my crops.

I played the original on the SNES and the GBA "Friends of Mineral Town" a lot as well. Both of them were a ton of fun for about 2 in-game years but then the grind finally got to me on both occasions and I stopped playing. I wish there was a way to automate the games a little more. I understand that the point is to "work" but it just wears on me after a while. I haven't tried any of the Wii ones yet.

  • 4 years later...

They just announced a new one for Wii U, PC, iOS and Android.  Quite the odd combination of platforms...

It's supposed to be based more heavily on the earlier entries, so I'm slightly interested.  Though the mobile platforms scare me a bit.
