Strangelove
I cant imagine doing hardcore mode. I feel like doing a third replay(i loved the game that much), but im wondering if i should do another run on normal or zealot. Even zealot sounds too hard for me. toxicitizen
I'm not in a hurry to collect all the trophies. I started my NG+ on normal figuring I'd upgrade more guns before doing my Zealot run. Haven't touched it in over a week, though. I played for two hours when I started the NG+ (stopped right after meeting up with Daina) but then I got RDR, so I've been playing that instead. Oh and as for There checkpoints though right Talking about hardcore I'm pretty sure there aren't any. I remember reading somewhere that the Xbox 360 version has ONE checkpoint, and that checkpoint is only there because of the disc swap. So yeah, I'm not entirely sure I'll be going for the platinum I'll probably attempt Hardcore when I'm bored and have nothing better to play (i.e. during the summer), but I don't have high hopes of success. excaliburps
Alright, I finished the game just now! I have to say, the final battle can be tough if you almost exhausted your supplies fending off the elite necromorphs and the ubermorph/regenerator. It's good I didn't use the last save, so I went through those necromorphs twice and made sure to save some health items. Even then, my strategy was to run around the "arena" until all those shadow things popped up and mow them down, gaining more ammo. It did take a few tries, what with... Nicole popping up in front of me sometimes. I'm definitely getting the Force Gun in New Game+... Oh, and I remembered someone saying you could kill the Ubermorph, but there was no option in the game really. I looked it up, and are people saying the giant fan is the proper way? Heck, that last minute before the final battle was kinda confusing. Like, yeah there's a giant fan, but there was also a door that lead to a ledge. Tell me about it! I did the huge mistake of playing on Zealot difficulty straight away! I couldn't stop saying "Fuck", "Shit" and other obscenities after I reached Chapter 10 I think. I was constantly out of ammo, med packs and I felt most of the deaths I had were very cheap... I entered the final battle with no med-pack and my weapons were a the Plasma Cutter, Line Gun and Pulse Rifle. Only the PS was maxed out. Needless to say the final boss became a chore! I spent about an hour finishing it off. I almost twitted Steve Papoutsis and told him his game was a cheap motherfucker! I beat the final boss with 1 hit remaining before I died. In short, I got lucky. Doubt I'd ever want to experience that again. On the upside I've tried Normal now and it's load easier. A little too easy in fact. How I wish there was a "Brass Balls" Trophy/Achievement for playing it on Zealot right away. Then again, that could be a major cause for broken controllers, discs and the occasional killing spree (I kid!)...
CorgiShinobi
There checkpoints though right Talking about hardcore No, there are no checkpoints. Oh, and you can't start Hardcore with New Game+. I finished Zealot tonight, and while Chapter 13 gave me trouble, I maxed out four weapons and so I spent my credits on health and ammo. When Chapter 15 started, I was packing and I had the best weapon selection: Pulse Rifle, Ripper, and Force Gun. Pulse Rifle: Nicole/Marker Ripper: Elite Necromorphs and Ubermorph Force Gun: Shades (boss battle) I'm on a third round, but I really only have one trophy now. It's on Casual difficulty, so I got to Chapter 6 in, like, an hour. With the exception of Hardcore, it's Shock Therapy.
Mercurial
That's pretty...hardcore.
CorgiShinobi
I got Shock Therapy last night! So, without the Hardcore trophy, that means you earn 91% for Dead Space 2. If anyone wants that trophy, there's a nice trick to it. Swarmers, those tiny Necromorphs, don't count for a lot of the trophies which involve "X amount." However, Shock Therapy counts Swarmers as targets! While you could try the trophy with The Pack (barely upgraded Javelin, Survivalist or Zealot), most source tell you to try the Funeral Chapel room where there's a Slasher covered with Swarmers. If you've already passed that point, like I did, the best alternative is a Pregnant. Yes, those yellow-pale bulbous Necromorphs. I had to turn the difficulty back up to Zealot, and so here's how I did it. 1) Shoot Pregnant's sack. 2) Swarmers will pour out, and so let them crawl close to you. 3) Stasis the Swarmers so that the crawling Pregnant can catch up. 4) Once they're piled together, shoot the Pregnant and release the lightning! Congratulations, you have earned Shock Therapy!

Strangelove
This game needs an Ironman skin. Or Visceral needs to make an Ironman game. Whichever.
Mal
Gabe... Newell's nightmare or dream. Depends on how you look at it. Anyways, I like Gabe's voice. Hopes he's not killed off or anything. Same with Lexine. (Yay for Wikis. ) If you are wondering, again, I never beat the first game and only watched them played to completion on streams. This series is really fun being watched played.
CorgiShinobi
I'm wondering what happened to Nate, you know, the other guy from Extraction. It seemed pretty obvious that Nate and Lexine would get together, but the Severed trailer shows that Lexine is Gabe's spouse. Nate did lose an arm, but he should have survived to the Sprawl. SanaEquiesterer
I finally finished it last night. Ultimately it just felt like DS1 but with some improvements here and there, but that was pretty apparent early on and I don't think it was trying to do more than that. Trading up multi-surface zero-g for free-floating zero-g kept me just as confused, and I mean that in a good way. Emphasizing the use of stasis was nice, too, since I felt it was underused in the first game. I still like the first more, and I'm eager to see what changes and improvements will come to the third title, if and when it happens. Two things that should happen: really really fix the refresh rate issues with the PC release, and for the love of God, they better not bring back that damned regenerating necromorph. The last two chapters were just a mess of nothing but annoyance. Edited February 25, 2011 by SanaEquiesterer

CorgiShinobi
I went back to the first Dead Space when I was bored last night. I got the Don't Get Cocky Kid trophy, but I wasn't right at the cannon part, so I got to play a little. Dead Space 2 > Dead Space Both are really great games, but the improvements in DS2 are really great. Just your RIG alone looks better and functions better. The controls are also different, and I think DS2 changed them for the better. Even stomping was improved, along with character design. As for the NoonTech Diagnostic Machine, I've never failed at that part. Seriously though, with all the people saying Dead Space 2 wasn't scary, when I had to poke Isaac's eye, I was freaked. I'm very sensitive about my eyes; why I'll never get contact lens, or give Lasik a chance.

Strangelove
The eyepoke minigame is one of the greatest things ever in a videogame. Its weird that its never been done before ds2.
SomTervo
I've been reading you guys' posts here, and I'd like to ask how you all did the final boss? I tried about 6 times failingly- I would shoot Nicole and the marker, then when the Shades/Children came around I'd fight them off for a few minutes, and finally be overwhelmed. I tried this a whole bunch of times and it was infuriating, I'd always knock them back once or twice and get Nicole/Marker again, but they'd always finally kill me as I'd run out of MedPacks. However, on my 7th or so try, I realised getting rid of Nicole/Marker is the most important thing, and all the kids die/disappear when you get Nicole damaged enough. So how I eventually did it was just by whapping out my highly-upgraded Javelin gun, and shooting Nicole/Marker repeatedly. I literally completely ignored the Shades/Kids. Every time the kids would juust be reaching me when Nicole finally lapsed from Isaac's mind and the marker popped up again. It was easy and took a minute or two at most. Did you guys fight off all the kids as well as Nicole/Marker? I just get that impression from your posts. Strangelove
Yeah, focusing on nicole and the marker is the way to go. The kids drop a lot of itemms, but its really just a waste of time. If you keep focused on nicole and the marker the fight should be under two minutes easily. Its weird but i was playing in survivalist last night and i found just about the easiest and fastest way to fight the boss. You just drop a bomb with the line guns alt fire and that takes care of niclole in one hit and gets rid of a ton of kids too, then you unleash on the marker with the plasma cutter. It makes the fight about a minute long.
CorgiShinobi
If you want to take on the Shades, primarily if you are low on ammo, the best way to clear them out is to run around the arena. They pile up behind you, so if you have the Force Gun, Line Gun, or Ripper, it's easy to massacre them (even on Zealot). The first time I faced the boss, my weapon selection wasn't the best and I had ran low on ammo. It sucks that there were no health drops, so I restarted from my last save point which was the beginning of Chapter 15. If you take on the Shades, only concern yourself with the first attacking wave in each new sequence. I'm sure people are aware that if you take enough time, more Shades will pop up if you haven't damaged Nicole enough. As what was said earlier, attacking Nicole will cause them to disappear (for the moment). I've already said this before, but I only used two weapons in the boss battle my second time around. Three in total for Chapter 15, but really, I only used the Ripper for the actual chapter. Force Gun and Pulse Rifle! Force Gun would take a shot or two to get rid of all the Shades (on Zealot) and had the bonus of damaging Nicole as well. Pulse Rifle for it's high capacity and rapid fire to weaken Nicole and wail on the Marker's inner core. SanaEquiesterer
I used the Plasma Cutter at first, but once the kids started showing up I pulled out the Contact Beam. I had upgraded it so it would stasis with the alt fire. The kids would crowd a little, I'd move toward Nicole, then I'd hit the alt fire. While everyone was slowly floating away I could get my shots in on Nicole and finally the marker. I was surprised how simple it was, really, but that was on normal difficulty. CorgiShinobi
I played Severed, and it was really good. For being how long it was, the whole time was really intense. Even though you have everything available to you at Stores, you have limited resources. At least you have 50,000 credits to start off with, but your RIG is barely upgraded as well as Stasis. The Pulse Rifle has been partially upgraded, so keep it! I sold off the Patrol Seeker Rifle and bought the Force Gun. I don't mind the Seeker Rifle, but with the few resources, the fewer weapons, the better! I say Severed is intense because you experience every enemy type in the two chapters available. While Isaac is a cool cat, I like the Extraction crew a lot. There was more character to begin with, and for the most part you have had Isaac talking with random people that most end up dying, and of course his one-sided perspective with Nicole.
