Mister Jack
It's been a considerable while since I played the original Dead Space so I didn't notice an immediate difference in the melee itself.

It's been a while for me too, but for some reason that game is just burned into my brain (in a good way).
toxicitizen
It might have been the level itself since it was frozen over or something like that. Good point. Hadn't thought of that. It just looks to much like the original to me And that is a bad thing because... ?
Chewblaha
The swearing actually came across as 'gruff action hero' to me. He says things like 'Die you f*ck!' (something like that). A bit odd, but I would've been ok with it if they programmed it so he only swore when he was actually killing a necromorph ... not a floor panel I dunno, I'm ok with the voice and all, I guess I thought him being mostly silent in the first worked fine. Also, they took away the incredibly-awesome-looking-but-incredibly-pointless alt fire on the Pulse Rifle and replaced it with a grenade launcher that looks lame but is actually helpful. So I'm sort of indifferent about that. Really? I think I had meleed at least 40 times trying to show my friend how the flow of it is different and I heard him say nothing? RadiantViper
Really? I think I had meleed at least 40 times trying to show my friend how the flow of it is different and I heard him say nothing? Maybe it glitched on me and he IS supposed to only say it at certain times. I'm certain it happened, it made me laugh and I had a discussion about it with my friend in party chat. TheMightyEthan
I didn't notice him saying it either. But that doesn't mean that he didn't say it. Sometimes I miss really obvious things.
Gyaruson
I never noticed it either, and I always pick up on bad language (result of growing up Christian, I guess). Weird.
SomTervo
For example, I started playing the first Penumbra game once and found myself hiding behind crates because I didn't want to see what had just made that noise around the next corner It was the first time I was genuinely afraid to proceed in a game. The first Silent Hill also came pretty close to that when I played it last year. The atmosphere is so goddamned creepy that it feels like the town itself is alive and out to get you. In some areas, I found the sections without any enemies to shoot to be scarier than when I was fighting or running away. I definitely got that in Silent Hill 2 and in Amnesia. Silent Hill 2's got this great effect where it really feels like you're in an actual location, like the town actually exists somewhere in the world and you're out there walking around it's creepy streets. Guess that's what you get from real quality design in a game. Dead Space only disturbed me once or twice, mostly the game was just filled with tension as others have said. BUT Dead Space had one great effect that I haven't felt in any other horror/action game- after beating off hordes of enemies when the tension comes to a head, standing over the last one's corpse I actually feel really satisfied and exhilarated. I've had a few battles that have genuinely gone on for 5 minutes or so in the games harder modes, and when I've dealt the final hit to the last enemy, damn do I feel good. Can't believe I lost my 360 copy of the game... This demo is going to get downloaded so hard when I get back to the flat.
Chewblaha
The only real problem I had was coming out of zero gravity. Seems like it's really irritating.
SomTervo
The only real problem I had was coming out of zero gravity. Seems like it's really irritating. Like, the transition between floating about and slamming back down to Earth? How are the new Zero-G controls anyway, look like they've got lots of nice new horror prospects. Chewblaha
Controlling it in the air is easy. Very nice to pick up on. It's landing that's annoying. Seems like it's going to be a problem in some levels where you need to time your zero g movements.
TheMightyEthan
Looks like they nerfed the weapon upgrade system, instead of having that cool network now it's just a bunch of stats, and you put points directly into the stats instead of having to navigate your way around the network to the stats you want. MetalCaveman
I hope they reduce the number of nodes or something then, otherwise it'll be too easy to upgrade all the weapons I think.

Enervation
In my opinion, it looks like they focused more on the survival aspect of the game rather than the horror this time. It's still an interesting premise, the Necromorphs offer some pretty quirky background to the whole pseudo-zombie thing.
TheMightyEthan
There's a book? I watched the anime. I'm planning on giving Dead Space 1 a replay this weekend to remind myself wtf happened (and cause I impulse-bought it on a Steam sale and haven't played it on PC yet). staySICK
I never beat it.. last I played it was.. halloween of 09? sounds about right. I should be almost done with it though.
CorgiShinobi
I'm going to have to put Dead Space 2 on hold. I don't have the money, as in my last paycheck was ridiculously low because we had Christmas vacation. Only reason I have LittleBigPlanet 2 is because I had done some trade-ins. When I get the cash, I quickly purchase the thing, but I would have to say that might be in late April.
Mr. GOH!
Decision time: should I buy this on PC or Xbox? I don't currently have LIVE Gold (the Internet at my place is all wireless and I'll be damned if I'm paying $100 for an Xbox wireless adapter), but I hear EA gimps the PC version. I have the first one for 360. Thoughts?
Pirandello
If you have a widescreen monitor, then buy it for PC. If not, then 360. Playing Dead Space on a square screen is motion sickness galore.
