MetalCaveman
Let's use this thread to discuss all things Brink, in case you didn't know it, Brink is a team-based shooter developed by Splash Damage. Personally, I'm really excited for this game, the videos I've seen so far make it look like a really fun shooter, not to mention that the S.M.A.R.T. system will certainly appeal to many people... I think So yeah, if you like this game, or if you're going to buy it,which platform? Should we make a group to play through it since it claims to unite the single-player, coop and vs modes? Which faction will you play as first? The official website: http://www.brinkthegame.com/ Also, if you like parkour and stuff, I highly suggest checking out the "Beyond the Brink" parkour tour with Daniel Illabaca here*: http://www.youtube.com/user/ParkourTour *Included here because Splash Damage sponsored it as a means to get their game known and stuff And yeah, I know, comparisons will be made with pretty much every other team based shooter Hell, it reminded me of TF2 in some of the vids I've seen. jayc4life
I played it in October. Shit was so damn fun I can't believe my demo only lasted 10 minutes + 1hr queueing at Eurogamer Expo. Definitely buying that when it drops.

Yeah, I read about it, crazy lines and more, I'm really effing jealous of you dude! Anyway, which platform dude? I think I'll buy it for the PS3 and/or PC if by that time I finally upgraded it
jayc4life
I will be buying it for the PS3 just to make sure I can run the damn thing. I tend to not get games for the PC if they tend to be on the higher end of the graphical requirement spectrum.
AcidCrownie
You people and your PS3s make me sadface. I... Really have paid too much attention to this one. It seems new and interesting which is (almost) always good.

It seems new and interesting which is (almost) always good. Buy a PS3 so you can join us! What peaked my interest was the S.M.A.R.T. system, sounds and looks really interesting, I loved Mirror's Edge but I never got used to the whole "try to avoid battles and don't use weapons" thing, this game let's me move like that and also use a variety of weapons. Though I feel it's going to be one of those games that are relatively fun solo, but extremely fun when played in coop, which I'm still not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing, considering that so far I only know 1 more dude who is buying the game
Pirandello
Digging up this old thread. Anyways, Brink's gameplay looks to be fast, smooth, and action-packed. I am especially stoked for it because of their totally freaking awesome customization system. I plan on playing Ark Security for the most part since I love being paramilitary. TheForgetfulBrain
Ohh, I never saw this thread. I've definitely been wanting this game, but thing is, I have so many excellent online shooters I don't play now, it kind of sucks. In the end, communities and friends really make the shooter for me, regardless of how good it is on its own. Blasting away at/with randoms stays fun only for so long. If only more of you TAY folk were PC gamers too!
Yantelope
So we've got Brink, Breach, Bulletstorm and Bodycount. Stupid one name B FPSes.
Pirandello
There's also Black, from the previous generation of consoles.
Yantelope
Bodycount is the spiritual sequel to Black or at least it was until Stuart Black up and quit again. What's with that guy?
SomTervo
I'm really interested in Brink, and I think I'll get it for 360, as long as that version gets good enough reviews. 360 simply because all my friends are on it and I like that interface best for online gaming. Akuam4n
I'll buy this for whatever platform my friends get it for. I tend to get my multi games on the 360 though.

Mr. GOH!
My friends will probably get it for the 360, but I'll be getting it for PC since my 360 isn't hooked up to the Internet.
MetalCaveman
Invasion of the Brink Hands-on Previews Lots of cool info there. \m/ \m/ Special focus on there parts from the VG 24/7 preview: "Underpinning the class system is XP distribution. XP is distributed with an eye on how effective a player you are being for your team, not how awesome you are at headshots (which, incidentally, will only ever result in a one shot kill if you manage to land one on the very agile and fast moving ‘light’ body type). “The scorecard at the end of the round doesn’t show kills,” Stern explains. “Of course we track that information and if you want to set up a multiplayer server that’s all about that, the data is there for you. “But we’ve seen what happens when you rank players by kills on objective-based maps: you get medics that won’t revive players and soldiers that won’t give out ammo, because everyone is just chasing kills. “We look at how to incentivise players. We give you much more XP for buffing your teammates than for kills, and we smother you in XP for actually doing the objective. In addition, the XP that we do award for kills is proportional to damage, so if you cause 90 percent of the damage to an enemy and someone else swoops in and delivers the final shot, you will get 90 percent of the kill XP.”
Enervation
Well that's an interesting take on experience, I suppose. Have to wait to see it in action before I can surmise anything else.
staySICK
Planning on picking it up for PS3. I'm shocked, all my friends have decided to go PS3 with this one.
excaliburps
I honestly am very excited for Brink. They seem to be implementing a couple of new things that might revolutionize the FPS genre. If not, as long as it's fun. From customization, drop-in drop-out MP, SMART...The game seems to be doing a ton of things right. I just hope they can pull it off. I honestly am thinking of not getting Homefront, Crysis 2 just for this game. Oh, and the recent hands-on that's out right now have been very positive so far. This and BF3? Me = FPS games set. MetalCaveman
Brink Hands-on Previews: Part Deux Again, lots of interesting stuff, I like how they made it so that even if you can't talk with others it's still easy to complete objectives like a team and stuff. "The end product works surprisingly well. My fellow writers and I -- none of whom I'd met before -- completed two challenges as a cohort of silent killers with time and lives to spare. Smartly, the console tells you how many teammates are suited up as each class, so it's easy to maintain a balanced crew suited to any objective. We played as the Security, and one objective tasked us with escorting an injured comrade. After accessing the console, I saw that our team was stocked with medics, so I picked the engineer in order to lay down remote turrets at choke points and protect our escort as the medics fed him health packs. Both challenges required precision teamwork skills, and yet we didn't need to speak one word to get them done. The braying morons who love to lob hate-filled insults on Xbox Live are going to hate Brink because of that...and that's more than enough to get me interested." From the BITMOB preview. Pirandello
I heard that PC version will be limited to 8v8 as seen on the consoles as well. Not really sure how to take that, but they've designed the maps to fit well with the 8v8 combat, they say.
Mercurial
Only 8v8? That's a little small...I mean hell MAG is 128v128.
