Whats the story behind it?

From the info compendium:

Brink takes place on the Ark. Built in the near-future as part of a contemporary green vision, the Ark was a model for sustainable living. The massive man-made floating city became a home to the scientists and thinkers focused on making the vision a reality, while its wealthy patrons built a recreational paradise.

But soon the threat of a global environmental crisis became real: glaciers melted, sea levels rose, and the very survival of humanity was threatened. Thousands from around the globe fled to the Ark as a last hope. Refugees clung to survival however they could, while the original founders and their descendants struggled to maintain the island.

Now, existing in 2045, A whole generation has grown up on the Ark, and while it was originally supposed to house around 5,000 people, it now houses around 50,000. Now, the Ark has lost contact with what remained of the mainland and exists in total isolation. As the Ark's supposedly renewable resources dwindle, the balance of power threatens to unravel and throw competing social factions into a horrific conflict.

With tensions growing, Security and Resistance forces are locked in a heated battle for control of the Ark. Which side will you choose?

Whats it play like, it seems part of it is RPG like? Is it linear/openworld. is it like Crackdown?

There are RPG elements as you can level up and unlock new abilities and upgrades for your character. Weapon attachments can be unlocked through completing the various challenge missions (separate from the actual game).

Whats the MP?

Uh, what do you mean by that?

Right quick question: all I know about Brink is what it looks like.

Whats the story behind it?

Whats it play like, it seems part of it is RPG like? Is it linear/openworld. is it like Crackdown?

Whats the MP?

The story is: Global Warming happened. All the ice caps melted and most of the northern hemisphere is threatened with catastrophic flooding, so these giant floating cities were created with the intent of housing 5,000 people. Well, once the preverbial shit hit the fan, the boat got overrun by people looking to escape the flooding and the population swelled to over 50,000 people. So all of the supplies and resources are going faster than anyone anticipated.

After that happened, a security force was brought in to restore order to the Ark (name of the city). But the people already on the boat formed a coalition to stand against the resistance, claiming they have every right to be there as everyone else. The game begins once the Security force lands on the boat.

It plays the most similar to Mirrors Edge, if I had to guess (obviously haven't played it). It uses the SMART movement system (Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain) to allow players to perform Parkour-style moves whilst running. It also has a huge emphasis on customization, and Kotaku just reported that there are over 100 QUADRILLION variations across all character customization options. So, that's insane.

The most defining characteristic appears to be how the game integrates it's story across single player, cooperative and competitive multiplayer. You can play the entire campaign solo, coop or online against real people. That's kind of a big deal. I imagine that it's a linear story-progression, but with open-world elements to it. Like, the game gives you your mission, but you have multiple ways to accomplish the task, with having all the different classes and everything.

tl;dr

It's Mirrors Edge meets Team Fortress 2 with insane customization.

You guys can't even meet a Core 2 Duo? My laptop has a Core 2 Duo...

I'm reasonably confident that with just the random ass parts I have in my closet (due to having upgraded away from them) I could build a computer that would meet the minimum requirements.

edit: ah, drat.

I definitely exceed minimum, but not recommended. Although I'm close to recommended.

also; only 8 gb free? That's the lowest I've seen from a recent release in a long time.

Use System Requirements Lab instead.

Just by looking at your specs it looks like you meet the recommended specs except for the graphics card, and you definitely exceed all the minimum requirements.

It might be that YouGamers was being completely inaccurate. Are sites where they scan your system requirements usually that inaccurate? Here are my specs;

4096 MB Ram

Intel Core i5 CPU M 430 @2.27GHz(4 CPUs) ~2.3 GHz

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670

yea, yougamers had my 570 sitting just under a 460 on performance, so it's still working stuff out some hardware.

Hooray! System Requirements lab had me passing the minimum. Although that begs the question; if I can only meet the minimum, is PC still the way to go?

If you have a 570 what's keeping you from meeting the recommended, staySICK?

my cpu. Intel Quad 9400 @ 3.0

It's p well above minimum, but not quite to i5/i7 level due to the improved memory controller.

edit: HA! That System Requirements Lab. Click on the "recommended upgrades" and it sends to a Tiger Direct page searching for Gaming PCs over $1000.

Kind of defeats the purpose of PC gaming if you have to just toss out your whole system to upgrade.

edit, missed a zero.

Sorry, folks. I decided to get it on the 360. I tried to get back into Bad Company 2 on the PC yesterday, and I had a sudden realization; I suck with a mouse now. I used to be pretty good, but all those hours of Call of Duty/Medal of Honor on the 360 have taken their toll.

This exact same thing happened to me when I tried to play Crysis 2.
