Brink

Still, the point being that unless you can become the next Halo or Team Fortress 2, games that heavily focus on multiplayer have a brief moment of activity and therefore a brief moment of entertainment. As an example, how many gamers are still playing M.A.G.?

So, the question being is whether Brink will be just as active a month from now.

That's really not too true. Sure, some games die out, but especially on PC most games retain a sufficient fanbase for many years.

But at the same time you wouldn't get the bulk of gamers who have the game. If I were to purchase this game a year from now, I'm going to basically be playing against that fanbase: the experienced players. I'm not trying to be negative here, but I feel like this will be a game where you have to have been there at the beginning to get the most out of the experience.

Anyone have Jump Ultimate Stars? Great game with a good single player structure. It had a solid online battle component too. The problem? After a year from its release, the only ones playing online were the fanatic experts who would wipe the floor with you by playing as Frieza and Ichigo. -_-

so the reviews are mixed. My mind is mixed. I see a lot of comparisons to Team Fortress 2 and how it should be reviewed like TF2 but TF2 wasn't released or reviewed as a standalone game when it first came out, it was part of the Orange Box. Will wait a few weeks to see what ye all think before dropping down my monies for it

From what I've seen and heard, it's a £15 title, £20 at best. And not a full blown £40 game it's vying to be. It's heavily reliant on MP which drastically reduces the appeal. You'd need to be a guaranteed big hitter like CoD to be reliant on MP at that price.

I'd agree with that, but for some reason, I don't regret paying $60 at all. I'm really having a blast.

At the same time, many of their complaints make it sound like they aren't getting the point. I got the vibe that he wasn't happy with his inability to "lone gun" his way through the game, a la Call of Duty.

I just think that the reviewer should review it from his own perspective of whether or not he enjoyed it and less from the perspective of how he might have enjoyed it if he liked Team Fortress 2.

I've completely turned on this game. I'm done playing a slide show. Screw the network issues, screw the bots, and screw Brink! This game is going to be sold back to GameStop. >:(

:bun-WTF:

I say give it time and someone is going to come back to this thread and snap about something in the game.

And so the prophecy has been fulfilled!

lol, what happened Duke?

The online is BROKEN. Absolutely BROKEN. Every single match I was in had terrible, terrible latency. I kept telling myself, "Hey, I'll shrug it off! I'm having fun, right?" It dawned on me after a few hours that NO, I was not having fun. Sure, it's unique, but it's also unbelievably half-assed.

I'm such a sucker for hype. I bought that giant Collector's Edition of Hellgate: London when people were raving about it like it was the second coming of Christ. Look how that turned out!

The game works completely fine for me. Given, the MP is kind of quiet (should probably get together with some friends and play with them instead), but everything else is fine. I like the SMART system and the guns.

Furthermore, I, too, bought Hellgate: London on launch. I still have it, and it's still fun. If you're looking for a SP mod, Hellgate: Revival is a nice addition.

Yeah Duke have they not patched that into working correctly? Sucks otherwise.

Nope. That day-one patch that they said fixed all the issues? It fixed none of them for me. I know for a fact my Internet connection is strong enough, because in every other multiplayer game I played that day, everything worked just fine. I haven't had a single match where anything worked properly. My "Press X to help teammate" has been glitched, my "Slide" has been glitched; hell, the simple act of moving forward has been glitched!

I know I kind of look like some sort of asylum lunatic for going from love to hate in the span of 5-6 hours, but eventually the problems went from "Oh, it's no big deal" to "I CAN'T PLAY ANYTHING LIKE THIS!" I went from forgiving the warts to crucifying the game because of those same issues.
