diedan
I have loved Galifinakis for far too long. I wish he did more "stand-up," or whatever it is that he does. It's soooo fucking funny.

slithy toves
pusher II has been watched. by me. it was ok, i mean the entire thing was about mm's character so there was enough mm to be had by all. mm tush even! but there was like little to no wrapping up from one movie to the other in terms of context, which bothered me a tad. nwr leaves things a bit too open ended for me sometimes, he did this in valhalla rising too and i think i can better articulate what about it bothers me now after watching pusher II. w/out putting things in proper context i spend too much time wondering about which one of a dozen or so things could have just happened to put these people in this place and i don't get as immersed as i feel like i should. he creates these sincerely wonderful moods and realistic feeling places/people but kinds of jams them together in such a way that instead of getting lost in them i spend my time analyzing them. if there was just a tad bit more information on what is actually happening i feel like it would all work 10x better, because my mind wouldn't be trying to compensate for the lost information. if i didn't feel the same way w/ valhalla rising i'd totally chalk it up bad translation, because in certain bits that is what it felt like, but it seems to be something that nwr just does. edit: also pusher 3 doesn't actually have mm in it. netflix lies. i'm watching it anyway and enjoying it so far more so than the other 2 movies, even w/out mm. go fig. diedan
I haven't watched Pusher yet, but that's kind of how I felt after watching Bronson. NWR is great at creating emotions or conjuring up some interesting visuals to engage the viewer, but kind of leaves narrative or cohesiveness at the door a lot of times. In a film like VR, I was completely okay with it because it was such a trippy film to begin with. In Bronson, the film is a biopic about a violent criminal and sometimes it works (the stage play scenes, etc. are incredible), but at other times I was just completely lost. This would be one thing if he were attempting to create a environment where being lost or confused was appropriate (a la VR), but in a Bronson it was just muddled. Still excited to watch the Pusher films, it'll just take me forever to actually get around to it.
slithy toves
yeah, it was much more acceptable in vr than it was for the pusher films. even if he'd made the pusher films more about taking / being on drugs than about the things that were happening it would have been more acceptable, but it wasn't really. so far the half of 3 that i've watched is the only one that really touches on that pretty obviously, which is why i think i'm liking it more. it makes more sense, and the lack of cohesion fits much more. i'm not wondering. oh, and edit for pones if she makes her way back to the mm thread. you totes want to hug mm in pusher II too. this guy really needs hugs. slithy toves
oh, and dan, when you get back you cheap bastard pusher III, despite lack of mm, is totes the best pusher movie. it makes the most sense to be the way it is. i feel like nwr like realized his style was conducive to what he did there and not the others then. but pusher and pusher II were good attempts. and pusher II showed me more mm ass than i thought i would ever see which = happy slithy. slithy toves
watched open hearts. 'twas ok. probs not something i would have normally put into my queue unless i was feeling like super girly but the performances were good. mm is impressive as always, paprika steen was fantastic and nikolaj lie kaas is quickly becoming my second favorite danish actor. the music was godawful. just unspeakably terrible, and not even like in a cute and funny way like in adam's apples just completely and unspeakably bad.
