Games You Bought: 2022 - A Hideo Kojima Thread (Director's Cut)

Well, good to know it's only going to improve from here. My main problem with it is the fucked up combat, which I think is made worse by playing on hard (can't change so I'd have to restart and I'm not doing that...) The enemies block way too much, sometimes they'll even start blocking in the middle of your combo string. It forces you to play in a way that's just not how I enjoy playing these games. I don't want to carefully dodge around enemies to punch them in the back of the head; I wanna grab the nearest bicycle and just wail on these motherfuckers with it!

Damn it, every time this happens. I'll post stuff I bought recently only to immediately turn around and buy more. 😅

There doesn't seem to be a proper Golden Week sale on Steam this year but several Japanese publishers have their own individual sales with some deals that were too good to pass up.

It's about time I finally played DR3 and I've been hearing good times and been curious about AI: The Somnium Files for a while now, so 8 bucks is a no-brainer to try it out before the sequel comes out.

And then there's a not-so-good deal that's still the historical low that is unlikely to be beaten for years because Koei Tecmo sucks and who the fuck knows when the game will be delisted without warning because of license expiration. I really enjoyed the first one when it came out so I've had my eye on it for a while.

I probably need to catch up on the anime before playing it, though.

The price finally dropped low enough for me to bite, which as it turns out was around 15 bucks. I'm still playing Street Fighter V obsessively though so I don't know when I'll get to it but there's something about fighting games that makes me wanna buy them all whenever I really get into one of them....

At this point I think Guilty Gear Strive is the only big one I'm missing. And it's also the one my friend keeps bugging me to buy so we can play it together once the crossplay update drops. 😅 It's still so expensive though...

Got a Steam release out of nowhere today. Been wanting a Miku game on Steam for years now, so it was an instabuy. The one I played on Vita in anticipation of Persona 4 Dancing is still to this day the most fun rhythm game I've ever played (and P4D was so fucking boring lmao). Hopefully this one is just as good!

What prompted this? l thought you said PC gaming wasn't for you anymore. Was it the tweaking? Did you miss it?

I have to accept I do this every console generation since the OG Xbox. I get the console, say "this is good enough for me, I'm never going back!" and then a few years later build a new PC anyway. But specifically this time the tipping point was basically the advent of VRR (and my experience of how great it is on console).

I've been dissatisfied with my GTX 1080 for quite a while because it can't run newer games even close to 60 most of the time, and 30 is less than ideal, and I can't stand the stutteriness of an unlocked framerate with vsync, nor can I stand tearing. Then I got my new TV which supports gsync, which would solve that issue, but it only has HDMI ports, no Displayport, and the 1080 only supports gsync over Displayport, and Displayport to HDMI adapters don't work with gsync. So I've had my eye out for a side-grade to an RTX 3060, which does support gsync over HDMI, but had kind of decided that was a waste of money and wasn't going to do it.

Fast forward a couple months, I get a raise at work that's retroactive to the start of the year, so I have a bunch of cash burning a hole in my checking account, and then on Friday I happen to stumble across an RTX 3060 Ti for only 25% over msrp (and by "stumble across" I mean "go to Newegg and run a search"), and ordered it. Then on Saturday I started thinking "the rest of my PC is almost 10 years old at this point, seems silly to just do the graphics card..." and here we are.

VRR should pretty much fix my tweaking issues with PC gaming too though, cause now I don't have to worry about optimizing with a locked framerate, one that fluctuates will be fine, so I won't get into that cycle where a frame drops so I go into the settings to try to fix it, I'll just let it run unlocked and as long as it doesn't get like sub 45 it won't bother me.

*Edit - it does kind of render my Series X superfluous though, not sure if I should try to sell that or what...

My friend's been bugging me to buy it ever since they announced it was getting cross-play, so I've been waiting for it to drop back down to its historical low price. Which is still almost 50 bucks since the game is only a year old but now that I'm nearing 200 hours of playtime on Street Fighter V, I think it's fair to say that fighting games have finally clicked for me. So while I don't see myself buying many of them day one (unless they're called Street Fighter 6, that is), I don't really balk at paying close to full price anymore if I know there's going to be a decent player base online.

I've been watching this Youtube channel recently that does practical walkthroughs for some of the hardest retro games ever made and it's made me want to fire up the NES Classic and try my hand at a few of them to see if I can beat them myself. I wanted a better controller for it though so I got this on eBay for about 13 bucks. Now I'm playing with power.

WIth international shipping, this ended up costing me exactly 80$ CAD lmao. I basically never pay that much for AAA games but Zachtronics is an instabuy any day. Shenzhen I/O and Exapunks just wouldn't have been the same without the physical books to leaf through. And while this one doesn't seem like the physical items will be key to the experience like those, this is the final Zachtronics game and I know I'd regret skipping it. :(

I still wish I had secured a copy of that Zach-Like book they kickstarted while I still had the chance...
