toxicitizen
After 2 years it's finally on PC! Between the Steam release, the reveal of Part 2 and the announcement of Crisis Core Reunion, I couldn't resist. Thank GOD for GMG, though, because Square Enix are fucking insane with that 93$ CAD price. With the base discount + the gold XP bonus it brought it down to a more palatable 60 bucks. Still kinda ridiculous for a 2 year old game but this is Square-Enix on PC we're talking about so I knew full well to expect something equal parts insane, stupid and incompetent.
toxicitizen
Kept telling myself I'd wait but I decided I wanna get in on Pocket Fighters and Puzzle Fighter before the online becomes a barren wasteland.
TheMightyEthan
$6 on Playstation, the last of the Telltale Walking Deads I didn't have.
toxicitizen
So at this point I'm starting to understand that when I tell myself "I'm gonna wait", what I really mean is "I will not, in fact, wait. I will buy it on a complete whim in the near future." I wanted to wait for the RTX 40 series but as the 30 cards have been slowly coming back in stock and dropping in price, the temptation to just get one while I can has been steadily increasing. This one was basically the exact amount of money I have saved up and then Amazon randomly dropped its price by like 100$ while it was sitting in my cart. So I took it as a sign that I should just pull the trigger. Then there's the white theme I've been going for on this build. There's no guarantee that ASUS will do another run of white editions for the 40 series, so this might actually be my last and only chance to get a white GPU. The only one I had been seeing in stock up to this point was the 3090 and lmao. I'm not paying 2.5K$ for a GPU.That this one came back in stock at all was a pleasant surprise. I'm also kinda nervous about the rumored power draw of the 40 series. I just bought this PSU so I really don't wanna have to replace it already and 850W was the best one I could find that fit my white theme anyway. So that could've been another component that breaks the white theme. I'm only doing 1440p up to 144hz anyway, so getting a stronger card would be for future proofing rather than because I need the extra GPU power. So yeah, this one should be fine for the foreseeable future.
TheMightyEthan
Aww, now I have graphics card envy. I'll probably get a 40-something when they come out...
toxicitizen
You're gonna replace your brand new 3060 after not even 6 months? lol You do have a problem.

Oh right, it's technically unknown when they'll be announced. I'm assuming the rumors of a fall release are accurate but they might not be. Which would make me really glad I decided not to wait. But yeah in your case you'll probably be good until the 50 series. Or at the very least until something like the 4080Ti comes out so that you can get a more meaningful upgrade. Then I'll be the one with graphics cards envy.

That's true, I keep focusing on the "3060" part and not the "Ti" part, but based on benchmarks my card is basically on par with a 3070, so it's not low-end (for the generation) like I keep thinking it is.

Yeah, it's definitely a budget card but the 30 series was a huge improvement on the 20 so it should perform really well as long as you don't ask it to do 4K. Also upscaling has gotten good enough that outputting a lower res is less of a problem than it used to be too.

Plus, you have an RTX card so you can use DLDSR (and DLSS for that extra fps boost).
TheMightyEthan
Look what building a new PC has done to me!
TheMightyEthan
I had this on PS4, and the free upgrade to PS5 just came out, which was advertised as supporting 60 fps and ray tracing, so I was excited to finally play it. Well, I have discovered it does support those things, just not at the same time, and the ray tracing is only shadows, not reflections. I must have reflections! So I bought the PC version for $6. TheMightyEthan
So, I'm having to return my 3060 Ti because the HDMI port cuts out intermittently. At first it would only happen after coming back from sleep and I could fix it by just unplugging and replugging it, but it's been getting worse and now it happens even if I do that. It wasn't available for replacement, just return and refund, and I took that as a sign that I chose wrong the first time, and used the opportunity to upgrade.
toxicitizen
Gamersgate had problems getting keys for Capcom Fighting Collection for some reason, so after a full day and still no key I asked for a refund so I could buy it somewhere else and they gave me a 50% off code as an apology. I was gonna get Days Gone too but the code turned out to only be applicable to a single game so I went for this instead since it's still fairly expensive even at a discount. On top of the base discount, the coupon brought it down to ~17$. I know it sort of came out and disappeared without leaving much of a mark but I've been really curious to try it. I loved both Evil Within games so I'm willing to give Tango the benefit of doubt. The only reason I hadn't bought it yet is the same reason I still haven't touched Deathloop and Doom Eternal: ray-tracing. I knew I was getting an RTX card this year so I figured I'd just wait and now I'll have a few games to put my 3080 through its paces. Mister Jack
You can get Days Gone on CDKeys for 16 dollars.
toxicitizen
21.49$ in CAD but it's already down to 25 bucks on Gamersgate so it would've been even cheaper. I just don't think I'd play it any time soon. Besides, I try to avoid using CDKeys whenever I can unless I really want the game right away and the price difference is egregious. TheMightyEthan
You avoid CD keys but use Gamersgate? Good game though, I liked it, and the reflections on the rainy streets are gorgeous.

Is there something about Gamersgate I'm not aware of? I haven't used them in years tbh and only did now because they had the best price on Capcom Fighting Collection. I did try to buy something from them a few months ago but didn't because they didn't support Paypal at the time. But as far as I'm aware they're a legit/authorized key seller. I may be confusing them with another site, but I was thinking they were the one that let anyone put keys up for sale, so they end up with lots of stolen keys on there even though they themselves don't steal keys. CDkeys is grey market in the sense that they aren't an official distributor, and they exploit pricing differentials between different countries, but all their keys are legitimately purchased. *Edit - Further research reveals Gamers Gate is not the site I was thinking of, I'm still looking to try to figure out what that was. *Edit 2 - G2A is the one I was thinking of. Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry for the confusion. Oh right. Never used G2A or Kinguin, those marketplace sites are even dodgier, yeah. I don't know if that's still how they work but IIRC CDKeys used to get their codes from physical boxes from regions with lower prices. So they didn't technically buy keys and it was never fully clear how legitimately they were actually acquired lol. I know the few times I purchased from them, the codes I got would be a scan of a physical piece of paper although I just looked at my order history and that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
