D-K
So I'm kinda bored, thought I'd ask some of you for movie recommendations. Genres of interest, in order: -Sci-fi (Equillibrium, Contact, Men in Black) -Anime (either with lots of action or visually engaging) -Disaster (2012, Day after Tomorrow, Deep impact) -Fighting (Ong Bak, The one, Drunken Master) -Adventure (LoTR, Chronicles of Narnia, Tomb Raider) -Fantasy (X-men, Spiderman, Harry Potter) Nothing pre 1996 pls. Or maybe offer a little push on the following titles, seeing as I'm not sure if I should watch them, even though I have them on my HD: Valhalla Rising Pitch Black (chr of rid really blew) Daredevil Red Alice in Wonderland
c hoertjes
Sci-Fi: Moon, Sunshine They are both fantastic films.
D-K
I have Moon the bluray, haven't watched it yet, is it good in terms of plot or visuals?
c hoertjes
Both. The cinematography is great, and Sam Rockwell gives a great performance.
D-K
Very well, I'll give it a whirl. Feel free to recommend more, the lack of employment and/or responsibilities of any kind leaves me with a lot of time to fill.
MagicMagicPony
WATCH VALHALLA RISING. ALL OF YOU.
ixa
is that Daredevil the one with Ben Affleck? is there even another movie called Daredevil to confuse it with? either way, I wouldn't recomment watching it. man, I hated that movie. could not finish it the two or three times I tried giving it a shot. I second the Moon recommendation. fantastic film right there.
diedan
WATCH VALHALLA RISING. ALL OF YOU. Also, the best triple-movie night I've ever had was watching Moon, Zombieland, and The Fountain (again) in a row. It was glorious. Moon is brilliant. Sunshine is as well. Gattica is also a must see sci-fi film. As is Dark City.
c hoertjes
WATCH VALHALLA RISING. ALL OF YOU. 5.8 on IMDB, 61 on Metacritic, 64% from top critics on Rotten Tomatoes...I think I'll pass.
diedan
5.8 on IMDB, 61 on Metacritic, 64% from top critics on Rotten Tomatoes...I think I'll pass. It's polarizing, but it's not a bad film by any means. But suit yourself. I mean, you really use those as a measure to whether or not you'll watch a film? The film you loathe so much, Hero, garnered a 100% (top critics) on Rotten Tomatoes, an 8.0 on imdb, and an 84 on Metacritic. Reliable, much? toxicitizen
Sci-Fi: Moon, Sunshine They are both fantastic films. You, good sir, have FANTASTIC tastes in movies. Consider these FLD approved. I can't wait to see Source Code, the next film from Duncan Jones, who wrote and directed Moon.
Gyaruson
Hero is the kind of movie that liberal Hollywood loves. Dude, I fucking love Hero, and I'm the furthest thing from "liberal Hollywood" that you'll find. Hero just kicks ass. Not like the 2 hour wankfest that was Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. That movie wanted so badly to be mysterious and have so much deeper meaning, but it was just pure dick-stroking the whole time. God that movie sucks. But yes, Sunshine and Moon are both incredible. For the Fighting genre I would recommend Old Boy, but it also has some themes that I think you would appreciate, D-K. For Anime, I know I've said this enough, but How To Train Your Dragon is incredible. I'll add more if I think of some.

D-K
I've seen Old Boy, it was good, HTTYD I saw the day before yesterday, was also good. I watched Moon last night, per "hoertjes" recommendation but the movie crapped out about 65% of the way. Just when it starts getting interesting and clone-y. Eh.. Guess I'll give Valhalla Rising a shot tonight, possibly watch all of the Hellsing OVA's as well. Hero was a great film, btw
