deanb
I'm not saying "who doesn't have HL2" just who in the intervening 4 years since it's release, hasn't got Episode 2 by now if they have HL2 already. I'd imagine most got HL2 in OB, which nets you the two episodes as well anyway.
P4: Gritty Reboot
Dean, I've got HL2, episode 1, TF2, but not Portal or Ep. 2. I played them on a friend's Steam account since I was broke when it came out.
TheMightyEthan
Why didn't you get portal when it was free?
deanb
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/02/28/big-screen-steam-valve-want-your-tv/ http://store.steampowered.com/news/5063/ Well er.... I guess it's always been coming, and many have called for it. RPS may have gotten the wrong end of the stick, but I guess we'll see later this week. I'm thinking it's more of the Steamworks on your console kind of thing like Portal 2 on PS3. Though a HTPC like support may be good. I doubt it's any plans from Valve for a console. deanb
Anyone at all interested in that Steam Guard? It seems good, but I think the folks it'll primarily help won't be using it. And it's reliance on Sandy Bridge is going to really slow down adoption at the start. Still there's at least one man who thinks it's a really good idea: gaben@valvesoftware.com moolyFTW (If you want to test it)
Pirandello
Rumor has it that Gabe's account has a fully working version of Episode 3 on it. Another rumor says that accessing his account will suck the soul out of you because you'll have to bargain with the devil to play it. And yet another rumor says that in accessing his account, you'll be sucked into a hellworld full of monsters and a working copy of Episode 3 sits at the top of a mountain of skulls with rivers of blood around it. Many have tried; none have succeeded. Some poor souls have even gone missing in their endeavors. God rest their souls.
deanb
So that Steam Guard is active. For all users. It's opt-out. I'm somewhat pissed on that. Actually I don't even think it's opt-out. If you gave Steam your email, which I imagine most of us have since I think it's part of the sign up/buying process, then you're now protected by steam guard. I guess it's lucky my sister now has her own copy of Portal and that I'm finished with PvZ. http://store.steampowered.com/news/5123/
TheMightyEthan
It only works with Intel processors though, right?
deanb
No, see I was confused on that too. At the moment it's a software thing, the i7 stuff is just something they're looking into for stronger future versions. It's sandybridge anyway so not like it'd have much biters at the moment. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8232-WSGZ-8021#iptbeta
TheMightyEthan
Well that would be annoying if I used Steam on more than one computer...
toxicitizen
I have a verified e-mail address and all but I still haven't received any code telling me it's been activated. Though I haven't been on Steam much lately and it needs to be restarted like 3 times, so maybe it's going to kick in next time I log in, or something. Hot Heart
I know people were discussing Darksiders http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/17/darksiders-is-75-off-on-steam-this-weekend/
excel_excel
Darksiders for 7.50. Monday Night Combat 7.50. God I love Steam sales.
TheMightyEthan
lol, use currency symbols, you got me excited there for a second.
deanb
He's Irish, uses Euros, thus it's the same across the board on Steam. (Darksiders is actually £5 for us, so I'd guess that I'm not far off the truth and it is $/€7.50. MNC is £6.69)
TheMightyEthan
They're both $
deanb
Well MNC works out right in that aspect (though maybe in favour of euro users there, it's right for £=$). But the Darksiders one seems iffy to be that price. Actually $10 = €7.00/£6.16. So Euro users get it for the most, selling at €7.50, US just after, then us £ users get it the least, especially when you realise about 17% of that is tax the US don't have. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I didn't mean so much that we're getting charged more as that I thought he was saying it was $7.50, which excited me.
deanb
Well in working backwards, Darksiders should be $7.50. £5 = $8.
excel_excel
So what ye are saying is....WE STILL GET RIPPED OFF! *kills self*
deanb
2 things of interest: 1. You've no doubt heard, or a yellow man in your chat box has told you; Steam upgraded their voice codec to Silk, the same codec Skype uses. 2. http://raptr.com/for...6718#post176718 - the new unreleased Raptr client that should get around Steam Guard issues. TheMightyEthan
Honest question, what's the benefit to logging in to Steam with Raptr? Whenever I'm logged in to the Raptr client I'm also logged in to the Steam client itself, and Raptr seems to track my Steam achievements and stuff just fine without needing my login.
deanb
Actually you have to sign in with the client at least once to tie your accounts. Also last night I properly hooked up my Steam account to Raptr (so it imports all your Steam stats, not just what games you have and achievements.) It's slightly messed up my New Vegas play time
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I read that importing the time like that would double up with any already-recorded time you had, so I decided not to do it.
deanb
Supposedly the Dark Spore Open Beta is up on Steam, but I don't see it. (maybe a regional thing) If anyone is interested.
