Mister Jack
So now that steam treasure hunt objective for watching all those trailers is automatically unlocked for everybody because it's too hard to track. Just as well, as I didn't feel like watching all that anyway.

toxicitizen
Man, tried Just Cause 2 earlier and it's pretty damn crazy! I played the demo when it came out, and based on it I knew the gameplay mechanics were pretty solid, but the demo didn't do much to really show that. The opening missions of the full game, on the other hand, are simply insane. I cannot understand why that first mission was not the demo. Would've been much better. It teaches you how to use your two main tools (grappling hook and parachute) but also gives you a taste of the story and features a pretty epic set piece. Instead they released a demo that just drops you in a small area of the sandbox and basically tells you "Here's some shit you can destroy. You got 20mins." deanb
Yeah the Just Cause 2 demo was very shitty. I picked it up later el cheapo and it was fa and beyond the expectations the demo gave. Shitty demo's are shitty. Which is why I pirate
Yantelope
I was tempted by JC2 but since I've still got a backlog I waited. I'm willing to bet it'll be even cheaper in the after christmas sale anyway.

Mister Jack
You'll find a lot of that here. They call it "trying a better demo".
TheForgetfulBrain
Just Cause 2 is completely ridiculous... but it can be fairly pretty.

The Just Cause 2 demo was shitty and turned me off the game. The pirate version, and start of the game ended with me buying the game. Any dev who think's its a black n white world of lost sales is cuckoo. Especially if demo's are non-existent.
TheForgetfulBrain
For god's sake, PLEASE give us a Civ 5 discount. I promise I'll buy it then. Honest. Boo. As of today's, seems you might be waiting till the offish Steam sale. (Civ 5 has an objective, but as of now, no discount)

deanb
It's got 25% off for us. I also notice that the proper price for Civ V is now £30 instead of the old 'pre order now get 25% off' price of £40 down to £30. I bet pre-order people must be pissed. toxicitizen
Yeah I'm seeing Civ V at 25% off as well. I got it for less than that Also new DLC came out for it. I think it adds two new Civs for 8 bucks. Kinda wish they'd bundle it with the Babylonians DLC (5$) to save me a few bucks... :/
TheForgetfulBrain
Oh... DUH. It doesn't show you discounts when you already own the game. False alarm folks.
Mister Jack
So I get home from work to find a gifted copy of Civ V waiting for me. Life is good.

Mister Jack
It'd be nicer except I'm working so much right now that I barely have time to fucking play it.
toxicitizen
It'd be nicer except I'm working so much right now that I barely have time to fucking play it. Don't worry about that. I'm playing enough for the both of us Also, it's been confirmed through various unofficial sources (one being Valve themselves) that tomorrow, well, technically today in this timezone, (Dec 20th) marks the first day of Steam's proper holiday sale. Who's going on a shopping spree? Since their current practice seems to be timed deals, I'm hoping they'll stick to their previous formula of 24 hours. I find that the 48 hours of the treasure hunt are way too long. 24 hours is plenty to figure out whether I want to buy a game or not. deanb
Oddboxx goes up as well tomorrow (which is how I know the sales starts tomorrow, though the timing of the Treasure hunts end gave a hint too) And it'll be that days Daily deal(Which suggest, like usual its 24hrly deals)
TheForgetfulBrain
Shit. I've bought so many games already in the past few weeks. Too many. And here it goes again...
toxicitizen
Yeah, the Oddbox thing was one of the unofficial sources I mentioned. They actually mentioned the sale on their blog. I might get Stranger's Wrath. Never played it but heard good things. Also, another more official hint was that on the very first day of the treasure hunt, the 100 games giveaway instructions said to "log in on the 20th, the first day of the christmas sale". They quickly removed that last part but someone snatched a screenshot and posted it on the Steam forums

I remember seeing it though, so I've had in my head the sale was starting the 20th since. I'm hoping for a lot of things... gurp. Not to mention one of my friends finally got Steam, so I'm gonna be buying him a bunch of cheap crap.
deanb
I'd imagine they didn't want a two week warning on the Sale because everyone's buying will slow right down as they wait for the inevitable and crazy sales.
TheMightyEthan
You can buy a gift on Steam for no particular person, right? And it gives you a gift-code that you can send to them? The reason I ask is cause I might want to buy some gifts but not actually send them out until Christmas day.
deanb
You can buy it and send them to an email address. So if you have a second email just send the gift to that. Then forward on the email to who you want to gift it to. I think. At leasts that's what a few of the Steam guys do. Might want to pop in and ask. Personally I've never just bought random gifts for the hell of it.
