deanb
https://twitter.com/Steam_Spy/status/804072335997358084 So word is that 38% of all games on Steam were put on this year (though not always that they were games that came out this year, but that's a thin slither I'd wager). Which I guess would explain why it feels like a horrible mess to go through when doing wishlists or discovery queues n what not. Steam also recommends based on my "not interested" stuff that I should add:Action, Adventure, Singleplayer, Multiplayer, Indie. to my tag exclusion list. Which I guess would be a great way to massively slim down the store

toxicitizen
You joke but there would still be a bunch of stuff left. Some of it better than any game could ever hope to be.

deanb
http://store.steampowered.com/news/26415/ The Steam Awards nominees are up, they'll be running them one category a day from the 22nd. That "test of time" thing makes me wonder the average age of steam base if 5 years is considered old.
toxicitizen
So, these were found in the latest client beta. You'll notice the library in the pic includes games such as Mortal Combat X, Forza Motorsports 5 and Halo 5 Guardians. So, these are most likely just UI mock-ups. But still, their existence does strongly suggest that Valve is looking at significantly updating the client, which is so, so long overdue.
deanb
Interesting. And yeah a major UI overhaul would be nice. For the most part it's currently a hugely inefficient wrapper around a webkit browser. Most updates that come out are usually for Big Picture mode and I'm not even sure how many people use that (I guess it's the main client of Steam Link which means paying Steam users, but surely that's regular joes too). I use themes for it, but it can only cover up so much. Oh though no idea how their "continue playing" and "Recent games" thing will work considering at the moment it thinks I've recently played 247 games. toxicitizen
There's also a resume button in there. It could suggest some kind of console-like pause/suspend feature. The main thing I'm excited about is having separate libraries for apps, games, movies, music, etc, though. The way everything is all thrown into one right now is such a huge pain in the ass. I'd love to build a collection of game soundtracks through Steam but it's kind of a headache to manage the ones I have and their player is kinda shit. So, I usually just end up saying fuck it and listening to them on youtube. :/ This looks to me like it could be more than just a UI update. A lot of features in the current client feel like they were hacked in with little to no thought given to integration. I mean, I'm sure they weren't anticipating eventually selling movies and music. Rebuilding the whole thing from the ground up with a more future-minded architecture would not be a bad idea. You can practically feel the bloat in the current client, so a fresh start would be very welcome.
Mister Jack
Is it necessary to plug your DS4 in first every time you want to use it wirelessly via bluetooth? I synced my DS4 with my PC and it does recognize it wirelessly, but it only works with steam's native support if I plug it in first and wait until the light turns blue. It's not a huge problem, but it would be nice if I didn't always have to do that. I should note that I always turn it off when I'm done by holding down the PS button for 10 seconds. I don't know if that somehow desyncs it, but the controller doesn't turn off on its own and I don't know how to fix that with the PC. Mr. GOH!
The easiest way to deal with that issue is just to get a real PC gamepad. I love my DualShock controllers, but got fed up with hassle and incompatibility with older games, so I bought a USB gamepad with rumble. deanb
@GOH: I'd feel having a wired USB pad would sort of negate the bluetooth nature of Mister Jacks issue, he could just plug it in with a wire (Which is what I normally do). @MJ: Not super sure on that one. I'll be honest I've only had a bluetooth dongle for a few weeks (see above) and my main beef so far is that cos my PC and PS4 are pretty much next to each other, it'll turn me PS4 on if I try and sync with my PC. So yeah I find it easier to plug in first, then have it go over bluetooth. I do get a few lag warnings now n then (though that's through DS4Windows since you can set that to flash red if you get controller lag, not sure Steam supports that. Likely not given there's no universal controller settings screen. At best it seems you can only change the lightbar colour).
Mal
Wired 360 controller for lyfe. I really want a wireless controller but so many damn choices and so many potential issues.
Eleven
DS4 + the Sony dongle. Works great and you can even use the headphone jack. Works on steam link as well (including the headphone jack!)
Mr. GOH!
Whoa, that dongle is cheap as hell on Amazon right now. It's taking all my willpower not to order it for unspecified future use.

Mal
Word is that it's going for $20. Enough to make me jump. Maybe. I got a backlog you know! Anyhow, come on! MCC for PC at E3 because face it, I'm not getting a Xbone and Scorpio is going to be a premium product. I'm getting the impression it'll reanimate the $599 $599 $599 joke again. The idea of a Microsoft Store is fine but they need to get their shit together.
CorgiShinobi
What I wouldn't give to play all of Halo on my PC. Last week I played Combat Evolved (Halo 1) on PC and it was nostalgic.
toxicitizen
Yeah, I'm not interested in Halo enough to buy an Xbox for it but if they put the entire series on Steam then I'd definitely give it a shot. It would need to be the entire series, though. Like, I'm not jumping in if they randomly drop Halo 3 Anniversary out of nowhere. I don't even need multiplayer, just release the MCC single-player campaigns and charge a reasonable amount for it. But Halo Wars is certainly an encouraging start. It's the first proper console Halo game on Steam and it would be ridiculous if Halo Wars 2 doesn't eventually follow. It's also a low-key admission that Windows Store exclusivity just isn't financially viable even for their own first-party titles. I won't lie, I'm pretty happy about that. What I'm most curious about is whether it'll be UWP or Win32. If it's the latter, that's an even bigger deal.
MetalCaveman
http://gematsu.com/2017/04/bayonetta-pc-updated-vanquish-teaser An update to Bayonetta added a Vanquish image to the extras folder. Mister Jack
Steam will no longer allow you to store steam gifts or send them through email. I've also heard they won't let you buy games in 2 or 4 packs anymore either, but I don't have a source for that yet.
toxicitizen
I'm pretty sure 4-packs were discontinued a while ago because of the refunds. The gifting restrictions suck but I can kinda see where they're coming from. This will at least prevent stuff bought directly on Steam to be sold on shady sites like G2A and whatnot. Also, no more regional restrictions on gifting is pretty damn cool... as long as you both live in regions with pricing that aren't too different. :/
deanb
Valve: "We want to benefit from globalisation but don't want our users to do so". It's pretty balls. As for multi-packs I've not seen them for a while either except outside of Steam. As for outside of Steam, afaik their gifting service never gifted the keys themselves so this has little bearing on G2A or other key sellers. My biggest thing from that article though is that there's seemingly items sold through the market to the current value of $400 soon to go to $1,800. That's fucking insane. Who the hell is selling and buying these things?

Yeah, about that... I mean, if you can do it from inventory with NeoGAF's rudimentary giveaway system, surely a marketplace like G2A can handle it as well. No bearing on outside keys but those can always be identified and deactivated from the publisher's end. It makes sense for Steam to at least do what they can to stop it from happening through their own system. I'm not saying it's not shitty, just that I can see why they're doing it. 8 hours ago, deanbmmv said: My biggest thing from that article though is that there's seemingly items sold through the market to the current value of $400 soon to go to $1,800.
