What Have You Received for [Holiday]?

Well, nothing is quite as dangerous to childhood as the Care Bears. And He-Man. And Halloween in general. And ummm...well, everything else? I'm not sure how I turned out okay.

We had a whole sermon in church this year on Halloween. Personally I'm against celebrating it because it's stupid and encourages kids to eat candy. :P

That sounds like what my parents did with movies. Although they were probably much, much worse. Seriously, growing up, I swear I was only allowed to watch a handful of movies. They'd get all weird about the strangest things. I swear to god we were forced to walk out of the Care Bear movies because there was too much magic? SUPER CONSERVATIVE!

They're so much better now.

Are you one of my sisters and I just don't know it? Because that sounds EXACTLY like my parents. I couldn't say the word "butt" in front of my mother. I had to go over to a friend's house if I wanted to use such filthy language.

This seems like the appropriate place to ask this, but how douchey is it to ask for a specific gift for your birthday?

My birthday is in about 3 weeks and my PS3 just broke, so ive been thinking on asking my friends for a birthday donation to help me get a new PS3. Is that cool to ask or is it a dickhead thing to do?

I think that's fine. Not 'douchey' at all. Try and get them to pool together, or something, though, because just getting cash from people is a bit weird, but with a group collectively pooling for one purpose, it's fine.

Note: I'm not saying these semantics are reasonable. They're entirely arbitrary. Too bad the world's full of stupid people who care about this shit.

That's cool. Totally cool. I'd much prefer people to ask for specific gifts (i.e the odd "Mum: Harry Potter 7 comes out on dec 2nd") than having to worry for ideas. If it's something they've asked for and want then they'll like it. Instead of say getting them a DVD that's in the wrapper still months later.

I've got the Amazon app on my phone so have being thinking of using it for making a wishlist, but so far all I have on it is Snuff.

Also you've reminded me of a text I got from my brother I got other day that seemed to imply he might get my lego harry potter or something. I should check that out, he has weird ideas of what I like.

edit: "do you want star wars lego movie 4 xmas". I've doing some googling, what the fuck is the Star Wars Lego Movie? Unless by lego he means Blu-Ray? Though while he's a bit retarded I don't think he means that. Maybe the lego star wars games. Why'd he think I want those?

I find when you get older, people really appreciate "get me this." Unless you have a friend or relative who's really creative, most people will be glad to go on an errand and spend a millisecond in picking up a gift. It's like have a registry for a wedding, but more so "this is how you should spend your money."

A friend of mine asked everyone for Amazon giftcards to buy a PS3. When people know what it is going for, they were mostly on board apparently.
