Mister Jack
The 80s and 90s were a pretty fun time to be growing up, and we have all kinds of games we cherish from our childhoods, but there are plenty of other things, too. This thread is for fondly remembering the things from our childhood that weren't our games. To reminisce about games, use the "Gaming in the 90s" thread in General Gaming Chat. If you want to mention a movie or tv show or something that was INSPIRED by a game in this thread, that's fine.
Little Pirate
My Furby scared the living DAYLIGHTS out of me.
Mister Jack
My sister had two of those things. It was kinda cool from a tech perspective how they could interact with each other. That's mundane now, but at the time it was like black magic.
Little Pirate
Mine used to come on in the middle of the night. Then ask me to feed it. It was freaky enough you press on its beak with your finger to 'feed' it. But to have that creepy little motherfucker come on at 2 AM on your dresser... It was worse when it started malfunctioning. It sounded possessed. I was so freaked out I threw it across the room until its batteries came out then buried it at the bottom of the toy box. I asked for a Meowchi for Christmas next time. Singing robot kitties > Possessed human-flesh craving creatures of the goddamn devil.
MottZilla
Plenty of old TV shows from the 80s and 90s to remember. Power Rangers is a great example. When you're a kid you don't see the same thing I think. I've gone back to watch the Power Rangers awhile ago and was just amazed at all the things you never notice as a kid. If anything it's proof that you can have really low production value so long as it's a show for kids. Still funny to watch for adults though. Mister Jack
I'm rather embarrassed by some of the stuff I watched as a kid, Power Rangers being one of them. But I guess liking dumb crap just comes with being a kid.
TheForgetfulBrain
Honestly, I get nostalgic for everything over a year old. It's strange though how that 'Christmas Excitement' and nostalgia has almost entirely faded for me though. Just not the same as when I was a kid! Mister Jack
Well, working during the holidays sucks. And Santa isn't really in the equation anymore.
Mister Jack
Wow, the Rugrats movie is on tv. That takes me back. But why in God's name is it a musical?
Battra92
For my birthday my fiancee bought me Season 1 of Dexter's Laboratory. For Christmas my sister got me Season 1 of Doug. These shows I must complete on DVD! (except for their later incarnations that were horrid)
Little Pirate
I loved Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, and Powerpuff Girls. Now all they have on CN are the crappy live action game shows and half-assed cartoon series.
Mister Jack
I said it before in Old Country, but I'm saying it again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b9rZck_prI This show was the SHIT.
deanb
That shit was scary back in the day.Of course when you're bought the Mysterons voice changer with built in light for xmas, you get to scare your sister with it
CorgiShinobi
Well, I've already made this known once, but I'll post again. If you want to watch anything Toonami, and some Cartoon Cartoons, check out Toonami Aftermath Cartoon Network really is a shell of its former self, but at least Adventure Time and Regular Show aren't bad. Nickelodeon truly missed out when they passed on Adventure Time, twice! At least we're suppose to get Avatar: Legend of Korra in November, but that's pretty much the only thing on Nick that's worth watching. Sigh, where have the Ahh! Real Monsters and Rocko's Modern Life shows gone? Oh, they're on Netflix!
Mister Jack
If only they had more than one season of Rocko...
excel_excel
I loved Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, and Powerpuff Girls. Now all they have on CN are the crappy live action game shows and half-assed cartoon series. OH GOD I LOVED THOSE SHOWS. All awesome. Also Pokemon. Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. DRAGON BALL Z! Also CNX was fucking awesome! At 8 they'd have Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star and then at 9.30 SPAWN!
CorgiShinobi
If only they had more than one season of Rocko... True, but at least it's better than watching a few cruddy VHS recordings.
Mister Jack
True. I just wish the show got a proper DVD release. Why Nick is so hellbent on never doing this I will never understand. Do they think there's no longer an audience?
StrifeROKs
i think there's some legal reason they cant distribute a bunch of their shows from the 90's anymore
Mister Jack
Viacom owns the rights, correct? SOMEONE owns them because the shit keeps getting pulled from youtube, which pisses me off. If you're not gonna release it yourselves, stop being dicks about it when other people want to be able to see it.
deanb
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLNBLGL16GI I'd take a guess that Rocksteady had The Batman running in the background each day.Oh and for the older members:
Battra92
I really wish more episodes were available on DVD.
