CorgiShinobi
I should possibly go back to some of my Move enabled games. The sad truth of it is that I finished all of those games before I finally got my Move. As such, it has barely been used... However, Bioshock Infinite will have Move support, and you know I'm getting that Day One!
FredEffinChopin
Yeah, I was more psyched for Sorcery before that last trailer. The initial release was cool, and the revamped version they first started showing a few months back had me really interested, but this new one... I'm hoping it doesn't set a new standard in adventure simplicity. It seems like it's geared at too young of an audience.
pocoGRANDE
i actually just ordered a sharpshooter, a pistol attachment and House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut. i already own 2 move controllers, a nav controller, Sports Champions, The Fight: Lights Out, and Killzone 3. i'm pretty excited to try out a light gun game on the move. i've heard good things about HotD, and it was very cheap on amazon ($15). it was a toss up between this and the Resident Evil Chronicles psn download, but this was cheaper and brought back memories of playing the first game in arcades. it should arrive tonight, maybe i'll post my thoughts on it here. also, i picked up the Fight a couple weeks ago in a bargain bin ($7), and while it's definitely an imperfect experience it does offer some worthwhile things. for one, it's a surprisingly tough work out. i generally do about 2 or 3 fights a night and i am bushed. the move controls themselves are almost painfully accurate. you've got to throw punches with real velocity for them to register and do damage. i've found it's significantly easier to play imagining someone standing in front of you rather than looking at the screen. that being said, the head tracking hasn't worked once no matter what lighting configuration i use, and it's incredibly easy to mess up the calibration. also, your boxer can take permanent damage, and the game starts out at a pretty high level of difficulty. lots of these kind of problems, but the basic mechanic is very interesting and mostly well executed. more than anything i'm excited about Sports Champions 2. i mean, boxing, golf and bowling? based on the quality of the first one i have some high hopes here. TheMightyEthan
Golf? Holy shit I'm def getting SC2 now. 1:1 golf was a major factor in getting a Move, before I found out the Tiger Woods games blew.
pocoGRANDE
yeah... the one i forgot to list was skiing, and i guess an updated version of the archery too. SC2 actually has jumped up towards the top of my most-anticipated releases. here's the announcement trailer, and you can see a bit of each game in action oh, another thing that isn't mentioned in the trailer but seems to be a possibility is customizable avatars! (you can see each person in the commercial is playing as themselves) this would get me really excited. the first SC is great, but my two problems with it were 1) weird choice of games (who need video bocce?) and 2) terrible and pretty-much-racist characters... so if they've solved both those and kept the nice tight gameplay i'm totally psyched. fuchikoma
[edit: Pretty much said this already, but I can't delete...] Racist in that the Americans were godly? Edited June 28, 2012 by fuchikoma
pocoGRANDE
yeah, i brought out my move and SC last night for a friend who'd never used it and we were both still blown away by how accurate it is. the mechanics in all the games seemed really good and well thought out (except maybe volleyball), but i just could never get over the characters... they're such absurd stereotypes it actually takes me out of the game... a french girl who's a ballerina? a black guy who plays basketball?? an asian guy who races cars??? a pacific islander who wears facepaint and a grass skirt???? who said this was okay in the 21st century????? TheMightyEthan
Japanese people certainly are racist.
pocoGRANDE
@TheMightyEthan: oh geez, i was all ready to WTF this but then i got it... good one. @fuchikoma: i hadn't really noticed the overpowered Americans so much, just the fact that every single character is a stereotype. asian guy has spiky hair, asian girl is serious and focused and they both do kung-fu. white guy is a cowboy. other white guy is a footballer. i dunno... i actually would have much rather had even MORE bland characters, because all the character details (black guy's named Jackson! Brazilian girl just loves to dance!) just reinforced some incredibly played-out stereotypes. also, i'm sure it had something to do with trying not to be wii sports, but they definitely missed out by not letting you make your own avatar. luckily it seems SC2 is completely happy to do wii sports but better. that's all i REALLY want. FredEffinChopin
I was psyched for Sports Champions 2 until I read this response on the Playstation blog, in response to a question about whether or not there will be online play: We totally understand the desire for online multiplayer, but this is a feature we unfortunately are unable to support given our constraints. This decision was not made without careful consideration. A very bare bones online multiplayer implementation might have been possible if we cut enough of our new features (Ex. Calibration free gameplay, Party Play and Create-A-Player), but we weren’t okay with doing online multiplayer unless we could do it right and without sacrificing so much to the rest of the game. Hopefully the vastly improved local multiplayer experience in SC2 helps with this news. As we feel that with SC2 we are catering to that group of friends and family gameplay in a much better way than what was possible on SC1. Such a huge letdown. I would have gotten SO much more mileage out of the game (though I still to put it on now & then) if I could play online with a couple of friends of mine who like it too. What I don't get is why there wasn't online play in the first one if none of those things mentioned were present? Anyway, I'll probably check it out, but I'm really disappointed. I actually think I'm the only person who enjoyed the horrifically stereotypical characters. For whatever reason I get a kick out of it when a developer has the balls to go there with their humor. As long is it's equal-opportunity I usually won't have much of a problem with it. Not saying I completely approve of it in a game that might well be purchased specifically for young children, but it's made me smile more than once. It's the more subtle racism that bothers me more than racial humor most of the time. Maybe subtle isn't the word... It's the racism or racial ignorance (mild or otherwise) that reveals itself unintentionally in a game (or any other storytelling medium) that can be a bit uncomfortable for me. Though I might still laugh at that, only for different reasons... But yeah, this stuff was pretty mild despite being totally blatant and in-your-face about it. The stereotypes being drawn on (that I can recall atm) didn't seem like especially insulting ones or anything.

Yeah, I had no problem with it, though I'm not a minority, so... I can't necessarily argue their side at length either. They were all boring by default, so if you wanted the stereotypes you had to pick them. I just picked a character I thought was cool and went on with enjoying the game. Thursday Next
I always pick the hot chick. If I'm gonna spend hours staring at a picture of an arse, it might as well be a cute chick's arse.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I don't own Move controllers yet, but I can tell you with some certainty that you guys should pick up the Umbrella Chronicles HD Collection. I own those two games on Wii, and they're the best lightgun shooters I've ever played. Great pacing, filled with all kinds of secrets, and very lengthy for the genre.
pocoGRANDE
@fuchikoma: yeah, like i said it definitely wasn't enough to ruin my enjoyment of the game, which is a damn fine one (probably my favorite, or at the very least my most-played move game) but i'd maintain the designers made some... um, regrettable decisions when they designed those characters. @FredEffinChopin: that is pretty disappointing about online multiplayer. i guess they must be really pushing the local multiplayer, which, to be fair, was the best thing about wii sports too. but that stinks they could have done more. @DukeOfPwn: i was curious about that game... if i hadn't literally JUST gotten a light gun shooter for move (House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut) i would have bought that one for sure. with that i've got enough zombie-blasting to be satisfied for a while, but i'll definitely keep those games in mind. oh yeah, so i got to play some HotD:OEC last night and i had not expected it to be so hilarious. a lot of attempts at humor in games tend to fall flat for me (except for Portal) but this was an awesome treat, especially for people who like cheap-o 70's grindhouse style cinema (which i do). if you're familiar with the genre there's all sorts of great stuff in there, like bad match-cuts (someone gets their glasses slapped off and then is clearly wearing them again in the next shot), and terrible, redundant dialogue (narrator: "he'll rip your f***ing balls off!" character: "i'm gonna rip your f***ing balls off!"). all in service of some fun zombie-blasting. and if that sounds like something you'd like, then i'd totally recommend it. MasterDex
I always pick the hot chick. If I'm gonna spend hours staring at a picture of an arse, it might as well be a cute chick's arse. I've been saying that for years! It's why I often create female characters if a game has character creation aspects! As for Move, I haven't got much use out of it at all. The only full game I own for it is Tiger Woods 2012, which I really like. Perhaps it's because I'm usually playing solo at home, unless I'm online but I've yet to see a Move game that makes me think "I've got to have it!". TheMightyEthan
I tried a couple of lightgun game demos when I first got my move, and the reticule always drifted to where I was having to recalibrate every few minutes to keep it pointed where I was aiming. That is not how I want to play a game.

That is not how I want to play a game. it took me a bit of tweaking to get it right, but once i got it it was surprisingly accurate. not actual-light-gun accurate but definitely good enough to play the games well. i've read something somewhere about the move's magnetic sensor. if you're getting persistent drift it probably needs to be recalibrated in the XMB menu. just a thought. TheMightyEthan
I didn't realize it had a magnetic sensor, I thought it was just inertial/gravitational... maybe I was standing too close to the TV or something and the field was throwing it off? I'll have to try it again, see if I can figure out what the problem is.
Strangelove
Im also going to recommend the RE Chronicles game. They were a lot of fun on the Wii. Then there's Dead Space Extraction, hands down the best rails shooter in the last decade or so. Now if we could only get Sin & Punishment 3... fuchikoma
I have the same problem as Ethan. I made a huge CotW on Kotaku ages ago about it, but basically the Wii is inherently suited for lightgun shooters (judges angles by looking at the sensor bar,) and Move really isn't (judges angles by MEMS gyroscope sensor and compass.) I can't get as far back as it wants me to, but I have Time Crisis: Razing Storm for PS3 and I've never been able to play it because the aim calibration drifts off before I even leave the calibration screen. It simply doesn't work at all. I've fixed it in the XMB too. Other Move games are alright, but light gun games just don't work in the least - within a minute I'm aiming 90 degrees sideways in order to shoot straight. halfbeast
I have the move controllers and they worked great in my old apartment (not a lot of room). but it was a bit random how and when it worked. my first playthrough of Datura worked like a charm! I could molest anything and everything it tracked my movement perfectly. on my second playthrough it got stuck a lot, even though, I didn't do anything different (distance was the same). *shrugs* so far I enjoyed Echochrome 2 the most, I was afraid because of the controls you can't speedrun it as I imagined, but at the end it was easier to do so than in Echochrome 1 (still don't get how they managed to finish 1st level in like 3 seconds??). but yeah, I bought the move mostly for lightgun shooters and most of them worked great (child of eden did not, though)! fuchikoma
some sites recommend turning the magnetic sensor off completely, did you try that? I didn't know it was possible. I just went to configure it in the XMB and there's no such option there... though keep in mind, like I said I can't get as far back as it recommends, so it may work fairly well within spec. On the other hand though, I can fire up any Wii lightgun game and regardless of recommended distance, I can play it if it's within sensor range. Just to break it down if anyone's curious (aaargh! I made an awesome table that displayed in the editor, then the board ate it when it actually posted...): Move knows: Yaw (sometimes... if the compass works) When seen by the camera: X (horiz) Y (vert) Z (depth) Wii knows: When it sees the sensor bar: Yaw Pitch Roll Z Both estimate X, Y, and Z movements, and rotation along Yaw, Pitch, or Roll, but may drift without absolute references. fatalerror1131
I don't like the Move at all. I bought it because at the time I was standing in Best Buy to buy sweet new 50" plasma and a PS3 with extra memory, but if you wanted to buy the one with extra memory, you had to buy the Move package. I really wanted the extra memory and I wanted to bring everything home right then so I though, why not? My boyfriend tried it the first day. It's just boring and wasn't interesting enough for me to want to try it. I'm a dancer and a dance teacher - I get enough exercise and movement without moving my couch around. I just want to sit on my butt at the end of the day and kill some bad guys. Edited June 29, 2012 by fatalerror1131
