Donkey Kong

This game is a huge disappointment. Probably I was expecting a remake of Donkey Kong Country. And It isn't. Doesnt even have King K Rool in it!

If they had called it something else I probably wouldn't have been let down so much.

Actually EVERY SINGLE Nintendo title in the past year or 2 has been a let down for me.

I picked it up today. It's fantastic! I'm not really getting the whole difficulty thing, though. I cleared through World 1 with like 30 lives left. I haven't been going crazy getting all the hidden stuff, though, and that'll definitely ramp up the trickiness. I'll do that once I finish all the levels.

I had a ton of fun with this game. I feel that the difficulty was balanced pretty well. I think world 1 was a wee bit easier than it needed to be, and likewise I feel that world 8 was just a tad too difficult. World 7 however was a truly transcendent platforming experience. I loved that place - the music, the level designs, and the difficulty were just about perfect.

How are you all doing with collectibles? I've cleared every level, and collected all KONG letters. I haven't even come close to completing puzzle pieces though, let alone attempt the time trials. Those times are RIDICULOUS, and really make you appreciate that every level was designed with speed running in mind. It's just another layer on top of all the other layers that were already in there.

I played through world 1 with a friend and I have to admit that I was not a fan of the pacing. Constantly stopping to blow stuff or to break the floor ruined the flow for me. And I thought it was very boring based on the 1 hour of playtime.

We just played Kirby's Epic Yarn for the rest of the evening and had a blast.

I was absently reviewing my video gaming for 2011 the other day, and I realized that I haven't played anything yet that I like more than Donkey Kong Country Returns from 2010. I cannot wait to see what Retro Studios is working on next, they seem to be able to do no wrong.

Of course, I haven't played the new Zelda, Mario, or Mario Kart still scheduled to land this year. I'm not saying I won't find anything I like better in 2011, just that I haven't yet.

Trine came close though. Trine is a wonderful thing :)

Ok, I know I'm about 8 months late here, but DKCR is awesome, and you ought to give it another shot. Pacing feels a little screwy as you get the hang of it, especially if you're coming off another platformer. World 1 is a little easy to just beat the levels, not get the secrets, but after that it ramps up to some crazy stuff. Amazing platformer.

The -K levels are some of the craziest, toughest stuff I've played in a long time.
