Alan Wake.

Well, I meant what you posted seems kinda spoilerish. I mean, I have no way of knowing what "the Old Gods of Asgard" refers to in the game, so it's hard to say. But it reads like it might be more information than I wanted to know. :/

Eh, guess I'll find out when I get there.

Appears to be all the money they spent on porting it and marketing (which couldn't have been much, I can't remember seeing any ads for the PC version online, only articles on the web). Impressive, although I wish the devs were less generic in their responses. 'We are excited about this' 'we are quite excitied about the PC'

Finished Episode 6 today. Did one episode a day for a week minus last tuesday when it first came out.

And boy that ending was weird. I'm really glad they didn't put some sort of uber-hard boss at the end, I personally really liked it ending that way.

I'm not fully sure I understand it, though. Like, was it all a dream? That's how it seemed like it wanted me to interpret it, but I'm not completely sure. Either way, it made me think, and I kind of like it when an ending isn't completely black and white.

And whoever said something about the soundtrack was completely right. Awesome. I liked seeing The Black Angels, Nick Cave, and David Bowie throughout the game, and of course, the stage moment. Even if it did sort of remind me of Left 4 Dead 2.

Ending spoilers [warning, I havent played the DLC so this is only from the main game

it's not a dream. Balance must be mantained for the darkness. A big part of the game is how both Zane and Alan were writers, so Alan knew that he cant just defeat the darkness and end it all. He needs to write a "proper" ending, so he sacrifices himself and the wife escapes. He's in the deep darkness right now, and must finish his book to escape

One thing I liked about the book that came with the Limited Edition was a paragraph in the afterword:

Something happened in Bright Falls in the weeks before the Deerfest of last year. Just look at the Elderwood Visitor Center, the strange number of disappearances, the walking wounded who speak in repeating sentences and can no longer venture into the light, their photosensitivity so acute as to render a simple noontime stroll excruciating.
Made me feel pretty shitty for killing innocent preys of the Darkness.

Anybody played American Nightmare? Playing it through right now. Might review it. Really, really enjoying it.

It adds more freedom to the adventure, which I felt was missing from AW; the three areas a pretty open, and it feels much more immersive and emergent because of this. The writing has also improved a lot and it has a good balance between contemporary writer/thriller writing and B-movie schlock sci-fi.

Seems worth it, contrary to a lot of reviews that said it was a short play through. I'm nearly at 8 hours playing time and haven't finished the story mode: probably because I (unlike reviewers/ non fans) listen to and watch every radio and tv, read every item, and explore every area. The universe is rich as fuck. When you start doing this there's a lot to hear about, that build the universe in really important, unique ways. Really liking it.

Some of the new enemy types now are great, too.

Some minor plot things from the very start, you know them by the end of the first level: REALLY interesting if you're wondering about the end of AW1, and not too spoilerey.

It's two years on and Alan hasn't escaped the dark place: but now he's a total pro at fighting the darkness. He knows what's what at this point: from being a mundane, pretty whiny broken-record Writer in a bad situation, he's now a veritable quipping Buffy the Darkness Slayer. He has survived in the place for years now, and it doesnt surprise him any more. The characterisation is great. And he knows how this other realm works, how to stop it from spreading into reality, etc. And you'll find out where the other characters are two years on in the real world- don't worry.

It's all really good stuff, and is added to constantly throughout the game.

Finished the DLC for the base game a few days ago. Definitely a good wrapup to the entire thing, closing up and clarifying some things I wasn't so sure about in the main game.

Ending boss battle was a little weird and sort of cliché, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Fuck those birds, though.

Yeah, the DLC story and gameplay and design is so far above most of the regular game.

And yeah, birds are definitely an odd enemy. They're right on the line between 'cool/ fun to fight' and 'frustrating as fuck'. I think they spend most of their time on the former side though.

I really like the bosses in all of the Alan Wake things actually. The tornado was cool, though better in the DLC, the TV boss was hard but quite good, and Barry Wheeler et al. were awesome.

I look forward to fighting Mr Scratch in AWAN, but I'm not there yet =D

Good point. Really, any frustration at all is a failure in the design of your game.

The birds can't damage you enough in AW generally to be a frustrating threat, but there are odd moments in certain locations (hazardous ones, I might add) where the birds add to what would already be challenging movement/ platforming.
