Showmeyomoves!
"offensively short charge cable" Hahaha, tell me you're not basing that on Bashcraft's article. *edit* Aren't You A Little Short For A 3DS Cable? [updated] Updated: Nintendo tells Kotaku that the 3DS's cable length is akin to the cable length for other Nintendo handhelds. Like I said in another thread: It's great that he actually wrote the article before checking with Nintendo. I predict a similar outcome concerning battery life. They just looked at the picture like the rest of us. At least they followed up. How would they obtain battery life information without Nintendo's help anyways? Showmeyomoves!
"At least they followed up." But apparently they were too late, because there were at least two misinformed people in this thread alone. They should check their sources before writing their article. I also think it's strange that Bashcraft didn't figure out that they just shortened it for aesthetic purposes. Have you ever seen a promotional photo of hardware that shows the entire cable? It would make for an ugly image. And I think all Nintendo has said about the battery life is that it won't be as long as the DSi. Now people are throwing out ridiculous estimates like "3 hours on lowest brightness".
Mister Jack
It's region locked!? You mean I wont be able to play Jump Stars on it?! Fucking bullshit!
Wrayfield
Yeah, so are DSi games if I'm not mistaken so this is not exactly news. Sucks for those westerners who speak Japanese, imo. They were able to get themselves some nice gems before (especially those not released "overseas") and enjoy the western stuff at the same time. I just hope the online shop will have plenty of stuff, but I guess that's a tad naive...
Mister Jack
Region locking is so goddamn stupid. There is just no point.
deanb
Region locking is so goddamn stupid. There is just no point. Yeah there is. Like you can errmm...ummm... Yeah I'm not even seeing how it's an advantage to Nintendo if folks from across pond can't buy Japanese games n vice versa. It's only a small market, but it's a market none the less that they have to put effort into keeping down.
Mister Jack
I'm starting to think the 3D is nothing more than tacked on BS to discourage piracy.
MottZilla
The 3DS sounded much better when less was known about it. The DS really needed an upgrade as it was pathetically mismatched against the PSP. But so far the big things that stand out are: poor battery life, dismal launch line-up, expensive console, expensive games. I think PSP2 has a good opening. Contrary to some people's perception the PSP actually was a fairly successful product. While I doubt they will steal the casual idiot consumer from Nintendo, the real gamers they could get more of. Yantelope
Okay, $250 is offical. Too expensive? Preorder is up on amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Cosmo-Black/dp/B002I096AA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1295457030&sr=8-
Thursday Next
If $250 is too much then £230 is definitely too much. NOTE: £230 is too much. £200 tops.
Strangelove
I find it funny/pathetic that theyve been showing off ocarina of time on the 3ds like they were showing off mario 64 on the ds. A gamecube game would have been better, but sunshine and windwaker arent really as iconic as the 64 games.
staySICK
$250 is what the psp launched at, correct? I don't know that its a horrible price, but it is amusing that its more than the Wii. still don't plan on getting one though.
deanb
£220 in UK aka $350 (Though that's with VAT so hold on I'll figure the VAT free price) £183 VAT free aka $292 For comparison a 160GB PS3 is £229 (Also I wrote this fucking ages ago. Opened a new tab to find the price of a PS3 and got ...distracted)
Mister Jack
I have this nagging suspicion that the thing supposed to sell this thing i.e. the 3D might be the thing that holds it back from DS level success. It drains the battery too fast, it only works in a certain position, and it causes headaches?
Faiblesse Des Sens
$250 is too high for me personally. Unlike the PSP, there's no multimedia/non-gaming side that would make it worth more money to me as the consumer of the product. Obviously, I'm not too stoked on the gimmick of 3D. Especially considering I would use it on the bus and whatnot and that's going to be the mode that kills the battery life when I would need a good 6 hours of battery life like the DS easily gets now and the PSP can get. Mister Jack
Are DS games region locked on this thing too or just 3DS games?
Rocket Lawnchair
Are DS games region locked on this thing too or just 3DS games? I don't think any DS game had a region lock on it. the price is kinda high for me. ill just wait and see how it turns out.
Mudkip3DS
Are DS games region locked on this thing too or just 3DS games? I'm hoping that it's just the online portions of the 3DS (upcoming 3DSWare, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection) that gets locked down, and not the actual game carts themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo did a total lockdown of the device, though. :-/ Also, speaking of Nintendo Wi-Fi… it's just one code per device now! So instead of being chained to our game carts for online code trading, we're chained to our individual handhelds instead!
Battra92
Anyone hear what game carts will cost?
Yantelope
$40-50 for the games. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/retailers-3ds-games-priced-at-40-50-in-us/
Battra92
Yeah, how about no. I understand that inflation sucks and all but $50 for a portable game is just not up my alley. At least the backlog of DS and GBA games will hold me over until the 3DS gets a price drop.

Yantelope
I have a feeling that the R4 solution isn't gonna work on this one.
Thursday Next
Got an email from Game.co.uk trade in a DS lite and a 3DS will cost you £190. Trade in a DSi and it'll only be £160. That's much more palatable and I can totally live with trading in my DS lite.
