Mister Jack
I might trade in my DSi IF I can still play Jump Stars on the 3DS. If the region lock prevents me from doing so, that will be a dealbreaker.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I would assume it would work like the PS3. The region locks are on the games not with the hardware. So a game will only be region lock if that specific game is intended to be region locked in the first place.
Mister Jack
I'm hoping so, but we won't know for sure until the thing is out, I guess.
CorgiShinobi
Bahaha, I wouldn't say $250 is overpriced for the 3DS. Now, the games supposedly inching towards $50, yeah, that's a bit too high. Still, I'm not going to have the finances by March 27th of this year. Maybe if I had a better job by now, I'd be close. Heck, the only reason why I was able to purchase the Nintendo Wii by myself (no gift certificates or anything) was due to budgeting months in advance. I think in time the 3DS will prove itself. Last I heard it did have multimedia options, and we'll have to see what appears on the online store. Yantelope
It seems like every new release is too expensive these days but I'm beginning to think that unless it's some outrageous price ($600 PS3) then it really doesn't hurt sales that much. Really it seems as though if a company priced an object where there aren't people complaining then the price is too low. I didn't think the Kinect would move at $150 but it sure is apparently (although I still see a ton on shelves everywhere). The price is gonna come down but for now they're gonna sell a ton of 3DSes. The $50 would bug me but they will come down in price shortly after release I bet too so that's not really gonna be a big deal. So no early adopting for me but probably will jump on board eventually. Yantelope
Yante, software prices won't drop. Ninty never drops their software price. That is true, Nintendo is terrible about that. I guess there's always used games for them.
Mister Jack
The launch lineup is...awful.
CorgiShinobi
Part of me wants to be an early adopter for the sake of blowing the minds of my roommates. I mean, if an HDTV can get you howling wild, imagine what glasses-free 3D will do! I'll probably have to hold the thing cause one of them might start having a bad trip. Yantelope
I'm sure if you have a 3DS the ladies will be all up ons.
Showmeyomoves!
Okay, $250 is offical. Called it. BTW, what do you Americans pay for DS games right now? 'Cause $40-50 is what we're paying right now, same for Wii games. PS3/360 games are usually around $60-70. Of course, that's assuming you don't go looking for places where things are cheaper, like the internet.
excel_excel
Hmm, I like the launch line up, but its not amazing. Like the DS launch theres a bit too much N64 games being rereleased, after a few months though it should be all new stuff though. Remember the DS took time to hit its stride and when it did it was fucking awesome. As to whether I'm buying one, I won't be at launch. Won't be buying one till theres clear confirmation on the region locking. Nearly half my DS library is American and Japanese games.
CorgiShinobi
Right now the typical DS game is $30-$35 in the US of A, with some cheaper/crappier games being $25. It's not that much of an increase, but $50 games I'm going to be very wary of.
Showmeyomoves!
Hm, okay, I can see how that's a bit of a shock then... Damn, I hope they don't charge us 60 euro's per game now!
excel_excel
So like people have been bitching about the battery life, but what exactly is it?? Seems to me that 3 hours is the absolute minimum with 3D turned on, brightness set to maximum. I used like the 2nd brightness setting on my DS lite so I reckon I'd get at least 7 hours out of the 3DS. Why is everyone convinced that its just 3 hours and thats all? Showmeyomoves!
Nintendo's own estimate is 3-5 hours, but as Wrayfield pointed out, Nintendo is known for being very conservative when it comes to estimates, so this is probably with maximum brightness and music at full volume. 5 hours is probably the battery life during normal use (just my guess). Johnny
Still disappointing battery life considering that's what the NGP is supposed to be at.
excel_excel
Yeah but we don't have any really estimates on the NGP battery life. Whats to say that 4-5 hours is at the lowest brightness? I suppose its the 3D that'd be the real battery sapper seeing as its rendering 3 images including the touch screen. And when you travel you'd most likely have the 3D turned off
Jackpot
Call me a fangirl, but I'm stoked for the 3DS release! It's ridiculous. I absolutely love the launch titles and I trust Nintendo's handheld systems to be completely awesome. The price is a bit outrageous but I've been saving. Besides, isn't Phoenix Wright v.s. Professor Layton a 3DS exclusive title?
Thursday Next
You're a fangirl. I was stoked for it, but it's way too expensive, the announced titles don't really excite me (I've already played LoZ:OoT) and the NGP looks like a much bigger step forward. The only downside is I love Phoenix Wright. I'm thoroughly annoyed that Wright v Layton is gonna be 3DS and not a DS swan song.
deanb
Yeah I've still got the DS library to chew through. The price, increased price of games and the fact I don't care of 3D on the handheld (since I'll more than likely be turning it off to save battery life, and it only being a small tidgy screen making it kind of pointless over 3D on a nice big monitor/TV) It's also not very ambitious. It's a natural bump in DS tech specs with a nub added n 3D screen. Apart from that it's pretty much the same thing. Whereas the NGP would only be on par with that if it only added an extra thumb stick. Instead it added considerably more than that. Just up to now no word on price, which could be a huge turn off. also hoping for strong word on the PS3/NGP connectivity. They had a play with it on PSP but the NGP is coming out after the PS3 so can be tailored to suit rather than cramming functionality into the PSP years down the line. Jackpot
The only downside is I love Phoenix Wright. I'm thoroughly annoyed that Wright v Layton is gonna be 3DS and not a DS swan song. That for me is (almost) a good enough reason to buy a 3DS. The trailer was completely bad ass. I'm also super excited for all the remakes they're doing, especially Final Fantasy V and VI, OoT, and Star Fox. Also, Paper Mario and MGS. Yeah I've still got the DS library to chew through. The price, increased price of games and the fact I don't care of 3D on the handheld (since I'll more than likely be turning it off to save battery life, and it only being a small tidgy screen making it kind of pointless over 3D on a nice big monitor/TV) Yeah, I'll probably end up turning off the 3D, too. It will probably be cool at first, but if it's anything like those #D computer monitors, then I'll probably end up not using it, especially if it sucks the already bad battery life. P4: Gritty Reboot
I am buying one at launch. I tried to resist, I read all the hate on Kotaku comments, but it couldn't drag me down. My inner Nintendo fanboy is showing, and I like it.
TheFlyingGerbil
I wish I could be sensible and wait for the lite version as I think it looks atrocious as it is. The other problem I have is I keep looking at the pre-order pages and just cannot see a game I want to pre-order with it. I dunno. I definitely will get one as I've never been disappointed with a Nintendo console yet and I do genuinely love the idea of 3D. I have so many DS games to get through I may try and stay my impulses and wait but there are some pretty good pre-order deals around. OMG seriously I cannot decide and it is tearing my soul apart. CorgiShinobi
I'm waiting until June to purchase a 3DS because most of the good games should be out that month.
