Little Pirate
I had a hard time debating it, too.... I got myself an XL and I like it a lot. I brought in my old DS to compare sizes, and the regular size 3DS is pretty much the same size as the old one. It's really up to you, though. Strangelove
I hate the nonshiny finish and the rounded edges of the system, thats what make it look like a toy. Not to mention the bigass hinge at the top. It reminds me of the 90s in a bad way. Other than that its fine, like you said it fixes a lot of the buttons which are terrible on the regular 3DS. Also, yes. The Vita is sex in portable handheld form. Makes me moist just thinking about it.
TheFlyingGerbil
the back panel has a bit of flex on the XL but apart from that the build quality is fine. I don't think the hinges have been great on either size - a bit wobbly. I had early ones of both sizes so I don't know if they've improved the stiffness on those. I don't know if they've rectified the problem but on the original 3DS, when it was closed the bottom screen left marks on the top one - not exactly sterling design. also the 3 buttons along the bottom are proper buttons on the XL not that plastic sheet with pointy buttons underneath you feel like you're going to wear through. Does the original still come with a cradle? I bought one for my XL as it is a great thing, but expensive for what it is and don't forget the XL doesn't even come with a charger (at least not in the EU) oh, and 4 new posts since I started this one, making some of my points repetitious, but I can't be bothered rewriting it. TheMightyEthan
Matte finish >>> Gloss finish. Just sayin.
TCP
The gloss finish up until the moment it gets touched for the first time, looks nicer. After that though, all matte all the time please.
Waldorf and Statler
I have my 3DS with gloss finish. I've never had issues with it looking smudgy. My only issue is the joystick thingamabob gets really slidy after some time playing but after I dry it up with my shirt it's fine again. I really wish they would have designed it to have more friction though.
Mal
XL it is then, I suppose. Kind of odd to have Nintendo back in my life soon... Sure I had a Wii but that hardly counted since that was gifted to my family by my brother. This is a conscious decision on my part.
Waldorf and Statler
It's a very good decision for that matter. 3DS is getting games like crazy. Even if you don't get the Vita your main "have to play" title you'd be losing is P4G. P5 by all accounts will most likely go to the PS3. CorgiShinobi
I wish we got that cool Luigi 3DS XL, otherwise I don't think I could justify upgrading to an XL having a 3DS already. Handheld games aren't much of a priority to me anymore.

Mal
Just survive for a few months LP. Honestly, I think it could even be sooner if it is *only* $200-something. *Why the hell am I talking like this? "Only" $200-something?
Waldorf and Statler
You know as much as I liked that movie, the message to women of "you will only ever click with one guy so if you do, no matter how shitty, MARRY HIM RIGHT THERE ON THE SPOT" was well.... bad. Faiblesse Des Sens
You know as much as I liked that movie, the message to women of "you will only ever click with one guy so if you do, no matter how shitty, MARRY HIM RIGHT THERE ON THE SPOT" was well.... bad. Isn't that the point of most Disney princess movies? They teach pretty terrible lessons to kids.
Mal
Just realized that the XL is either red or blue. That is no bueno... but I can work with that. Quickly, someone tell me how I can draw on it! Squirtle Squad GO!
TheMightyEthan
Some retailer recently advertised a black one, so that should be coming soon.
Mal
Huh, in person it looks fine. The box image is just crap. Size and heft is good and yes, I tried out the regular 3DS before. It is about the same size of my phone w/ the wallet cover so it is totally doable. I'm quite sure my younger brother is getting the regular 3DS. Since I'm older, I have to rub it into his face though, not sure how my mom will feel about it... I think the sale might have been Best Buy way of getting rid of stock to make room for the black one, which is for sure more sexy but the blue one surprised me. Anyways... Atomsk and Company. For you all for tempting me so. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J5wTCH1Kug I'm considering to get Mighty Switch Force as well... Mister Jack
Is it possible to transfer virtual console games from the 3DS to the 3DS XL? If so, how do you do it? I'm thinking about upgrading but I don't want to lose my ambassador games. I earned those! I bought the 3DS back when it was a piece of shit!
TheFlyingGerbil
you need both consoles and an internet connection to transfer games. you can transfer a maximum of 5 times. It is a quite slow process but not too convoluted.
TCP
Yeah I did that last summer, it was an easy process. I recommend copying your SD card to your computer for backup just in case because.. Nintendo.
Mister Jack
Well I sold my old 3DS and preordered the black XL. I still gotta play fire emblem but I'm thinking about getting Shin Megami Tensei or Animal Crossing. Maybe Donkey Kong.
TheFlyingGerbil
so your old one is already gone? That means you lost your games It's so effing ess when you can see the games in your nintendo account and your new console is linked to it. Nintendo really do suck donkey balls in some regards. I lost excite bike 3D cos they hadn't even released the transfer update when I had to swap a faulty 3DS.
Mister Jack
I backed them up on my pc per the instructions on Nintendo's website.
TCP
I'm certain you need the original 3DS that the games are tied to, to do the copying. Unless they've changed it?
