TCP
First the Wii U, now this, it's like Nintendo is intentionally trying to make people not realize it's a new console. Almost as dumb as doing a new Nintendo Direct at 6am PST. I can see Reggie in the board room "Majora's Mask, Mario Maker, new Star Fox, a new 3DS.... people might be interested in these games, how do we make it so no one buys these games... I GOT IT, LET'S RELEASE OUR DIRECT BEFORE ANYONE IS AWAKE". Fuck you Reggie!

You're making the assumption that the focus is the NA market, the part of that market that wakes up that early, and that most people even care to watch it live. They'll just watch it on their own later.
TCP
Oh hey I'm FDS. I take a comment that was facetious and reply to it seriously because that's what I do, that's the FDS way. Now I'm off to be rude to new members cause the only thing that makes me grumpier than long-standing forum posters is new members. BAAAAH!!
TheMightyEthan
I think assuming the focus is the NA market is fair, since it's specifically a North American Nintendo Direct. I agree with you though that most people probably don't care to watch it live anyway (I sure don't).
toxicitizen
Lol. NA isn't getting the regular-sized n3DS, only the XL. NeoGAF are losing their shit over it. I guess a lot of them wanted faceplates?
TCP
What? Majora's Mask has camera controls with the C-nub on the New 3DS? God fucking dammit Iwata. NO. I'm not buying another 3DS. Fuck you. Also, shouldn't the Majora's Mask images on the New 3DS be the other way around? TheMightyEthan
That would be something to care about if it weren't for the fact that Majora's Mask is a terrible game.
toxicitizen
Uh, so apparently this doesn't include an AC adapter? Wut?
TheMightyEthan
Even stranger: that has apparently been Nintendo's practice for their handhelds everywhere other than the US since the DS days.
TCP
Also (in NA) does not include the game. That would be something to care about if it weren't for the fact that Majora's Mask is a terrible game. I will (petition Dean to) ban you. TheMightyEthan
What doesn't include the game? The MM 3DS? That's bizarre...
toxicitizen
Even stranger: that has apparently been Nintendo's practice for their handhelds everywhere other than the US since the DS days. Yeah, so I heard. That's just fucking bizarre. They're making it easier to pass on this (for now, at least). I shouldn't have to spend more on an extra accessory for the "privilege" of charging my fucking device. As for the MM system not including the game, I don't really get the outrage. It's the same price as the regular system, so you can get the themed system if you want it and you're not stuck with a digital copy of the game. Win-win, imho. CorgiShinobi
Sue me, but I'm a little willing to bite. I haven't read up yet if owning a New 3DS allows you to do a System Transfer from a 3DS. Given I have a digital game or two, and Nintendo doesn't quite have the proper account system yet, that's one thing stalling myself on a possible upgrade. EDIT: And I'm okay with the Limited Edition Majora's Mask (New) 3DS XL not coming with the game. That gives me the freedom of trying to find the Limited Editon of the game with Skull Kid statue! I'm such a whore... Edited January 14, 2015 by Atomsk88
TCP
Nah you can system transfer. I think they limit the amount of times you can do a system transfer though.
CorgiShinobi
On the current 3DS there was an update where the "5 System Transfers" limitation was removed. It has only been a year though so it's relatively current given the lifespan.
Mr. GOH!
Please, folks, don't encourage Nintendo's bullshit behavior. Let it die with dignity.

TCP
I'm really excited to buy a slightly better looking version of Majora's Mask. 15 years of real time is only 18 months of Nintendo time, so it's actually a pretty noticeable improvement. CorgiShinobi
I honestly wonder if Nintendo does put any consideration into naming, like a focus group or gathering some in-house personnel to discuss the merits of expanding one's vocabulary. I just picture Reggie receiving a phone call or video conferencing with Iwata and Miyamoto about the latest 3DS development. Iwata: Mr. Reggie Fils-Aime, we will soon announce our latest development in the Nintendo 3DS product line. Reggie: This is exciting news to hear Mr. Iwata. If I may, what's the new product we'll be introducing some time soon. Iwata: It is the New Nintendo 3DS, a new Nintendo 3DS. Reggie: ... Come again? Iwata: A new Nintendo 3DS, the New Nintendo 3DS. Miyamoto: Satoru, hold on, you didn't actually go ahead with that one, right? Iwata: Whatever do you mean? Miyamoto: That was a joke name we added to the pool to liven up the selection. Reggie: That's a name?! Iwata: ... Reggie: Well?! Iwata: Please understand. Edited January 14, 2015 by Atomsk88
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, seriously, it's like they were like "Wii U was already a terrible and confusing name, but I think we can do worse..."
TCP
I can't wait for the confusion during the next Nintendo DS iteration. The "New Nintendo 3DS" won't actually be the newest Nintendo 3DS.
TheFlyingGerbil
It's pretty weird they'd include the game (pre-installed) on the EU version of the Majora's Mask Limited edition and not the NA version. I assume the limited editions normally come with the games over there? Less bothered about the AC adaptor especially this time around as I won't have to hand mine in when I trade my XL in as it didn't include one to begin with. Still think it's ridiculous though as it's not like it's a standard USB charger or you can do without one. I'm really torn what to do now as I think the Limited Edition is hideous. I prefered the Link between worlds special edition or the faceplates for the small new 3DS. Basically anything. Can't think of any games on the horizon that would warrant another limited edition though and I do want the game... What makes you think it was a NA Direct specifically, TME? they're always broadcast live to NA and EU simultaneously, with an introduction by Iwata and then a section tailored to different markets - ours has the European president, Satoru Shibata. Plus, it was 6 p.m. local time for UK this time usually it's 11 p.m. so it seems to have been moved to a more UK friendly time. Did anyone understand if the episodes of anime were free or just the app to play them? Nintendo are usually pretty clear when you have to pay for something but they didn't explicitly say. Also thought it was pretty weird they showed pokemon shuffle and puzzles and dragons right after each other when they seemed to have similar gameplay. i liked the look of them both though an with the pokemon one being free there's no reason not to try it. Mister Jack
Well I already know I'm gonna be getting one of these so I hope it at least doesn't cost too much. At least I should be getting a tax rebate soon.
toxicitizen
Gahahaha, I just looked on Amazon and EBGames and it's actually 230$ over here. That's just the system, no bundle or anything. Add in the extra cost of the charger, and then at least one game because what the fuck am I gonna do with a 3DS and no games, and it all adds up to a grand total of NO THANKS! I fucking love how easy Nintendo are making it for me to pass on this. I was really tempted for a second there but fuck all this bullshit, I'm gonna start saving up for that GTX 970 instead. And it's gonna be so good!
