toxicitizen
Trying to decide between the Red and Black n3DS XL and I'm all like Why isn't the metallic blue one available in NA, damnit? Blue is always the best.
Eleven
3DS question: I assume if I delete games downloaded from the eShop I could just download them again for free from the eShop again. What happens to my savegames though? Are they just there when I download and run the game again or do I lose them? How do I back them up? I don't think I have a cable for this thing. TheFlyingGerbil
You can redownload games on the same console, yes. When you delete the software in data management section of settings it gives you the option to create save data backup, or if it feels safer for you (it would for me) under data management there is an option to create save data backup before you delete it. It creates a file on the sd card which you can put in your computer if you want an extra copy. You wouldn't need a cable for that but you should power down your console before you take the card out not just have it in sleep mode.
Eleven
I forgot there was an SD card in this thing. Thanks!
Mal
I think the 3DS should be retired but with such a large install base, I can see why they are keeping it. I do think they should do a hardware refresh though to get rid of 3D and for a better screen. I would use my 3DS more if there weren't jaggies. But again, install base. Abandon the 3DS. Having what amounts to two portable consoles is odd.
TheFlyingGerbil
I don't think we'll get a refresh having recently released the premium 3D-less clam shell version (2DS XL) to go with the budget 2DS. That's why they've said they'll continue to support it but the games will drop off in budget and price quite quickly from Nintendo and be left with 3rd party support by next year. 3DS is essentially dead to them, it's smartphone and Switch from now on. TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I understand why they kept supporting it as a backup plan in case Switch tanked, but now that Switch is well established they need to drop 3DS. @Mal I'm confused what you mean about get rid of the 3D. Wouldn't that just be a 2DS/New 2DS XL? (Goddamn Nintendo sucks at naming these things.)
Mal
Yeah, it's pretty much the 2DS XL. Seriously, I get lost in this brand line. I guess it'll be what Gerbil said, a slow death for the 3DS/2DS line.

Can't wait to see what new names the Switch ends up with. Nintendo have been absolutely shite with names the last decade. Oh I also believe this is missing the 2DS XL as well, though not sure if that's "New"
TheMightyEthan
I believe the 2DS XL is "New".
TheFlyingGerbil
It is - the "new" means it has the faster processor and extra RAM which the New 2DSXL does, and the 2DS doesn't. There current line up is:- 2DS New 2DS XL New 3DS New 3DS XL Though I'm not convinced they're making either of the 3D ones anymore.
