deanb
Holy crap. GAME have a deal on where if you trade in the 3DS within a month they'll buy it back off you for £190. They sell it for £197. That's £7 to essentially rent the 3DS for a month. http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid=15335&cm_mmc=update-_-wk0411-_-leadFeature-_-3dspricedrop
excel_excel
That's totally awesome. There must be some catch. 3DS out in Japan! WE NEED IMPRESSIONS PEOPLE
TheFlyingGerbil
there is a slight catch - the £190 is store credit, it's £180 cash, though that's still quite a good deal. Joe edit: is there any news yet on how you can transfer your DSiWare games over to the 3DS - I'm sure they said you were going to be able to do it. Ari Kagura
I reserved my 3DS. This will be my first portable gaming system I bought with my own money since the Game Boy with the spinach-colored screen. I have owned previous Nintendo portables, but they were usually given to me as presents, or I find them in rental cars at work. I'll probably end up getting SSF4 first since I'm a nut for the Street Fighter series ... even though I'm not really great at it. Then I might pick up Professor Layton. excel_excel
Ohh yeah Layton.....Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright, that game is the epitome of a fangasm!
CorgiShinobi
I still stand by my June proposal. After all, I've spent a bit on the Helghast Edition, and then I'll go after that Tron: Legacy package. I'm still sure all the really awesome games are coming out that month still, right? excel_excel
Yeah June for me. there's still loads of great DS games that I have to play and by June they should have more of the better games out. I might even wait till christmas unless the library really gets great by september
excel_excel
Ok....was at HMV today getting Pokemon Black....and they had the 3DS there and I got to play it. I played the AR card game where it scans the card and you play a shooting mini game, pointing at targets with the cameras and shooting at the by moving the 3DS, with one target requiring you to move the 3DS up above to shoot down a hole. Its totally awesome as it morphs the world round the card and stuff. And the 3D.....THE FUCKING THREE DEE. It was just lovely, crisp and immersive. I really had no intention of buying a 3DS till a few months after launch but now I NEED one.

Johnny
I'm still refusing to get that hyped about the 3D, because it's just like motion controls; will the games be there when the novelty wears off?
WTF
Honestly don't fall for the 3D hype, get it for the games . I've already tried the device on a few occasions. The 3D gimmick wears off after a few times. Not many games releasing in Palzone [at launch] effectively make use of 3D (with the exception of SSF4). Plus battery-life. Games though is another issue. The good games will probably come post June. Not to mention we aren't getting any SMT here, stupid region-lock. I hate the fact that it's going to be 50% adventure games PAL no US (lack of Cing titles in the US) and 50% RPGs US no PAL (lack of atlus titles in Palzone). Nintendo's global distribution system truly sucks, it's like taking a trip back to the ps1/ps2 era again. Get it if you'd like though since games are coming just not a launch. But not for the 3D, it impresses you for a shorter while. In other words get it for stuff like Kyojo vs Gyakuten (whatever they really plan to call it here..) but not the 3D. The eyestrain isn't a permanent issue, you can get used to it. However word of advice is that when we make 3D footage (I've filmed for 3D not too long ago) there are times when we know that a particular type of shot can pretty much mess up your eyes. However with films there's a wider visual range that's kept for optimising. It's harder with a portable device because it is meant to be kept at probably 10-15cm away from your face and it goes without mention that there are several myopic people for whom the distance would be shorter. It might not entirely work for everyone and it's not the same for everyone. TVs and larger screens are usually at a much greater distance so it does give a better range for 3D (though that too doesn't work for everyone). It's one of the reasons why the 3DS requires a more precise optimal spot when compared to watching 3D on a larger screen. There are also limitations to what kind of 3D depth can be done for a smaller screen. But yes, the first time you see it, it'll be amazing
TheFlyingGerbil
I'm still refusing to get that hyped about the 3D, because it's just like motion controls; will the games be there when the novelty wears off? The DS is more than enough proof for me that there will be plenty of quality titles. Remember the touch screen was seen as a gimmick when it came out. Now we live in a world of smartphones touch screens hardly seems like such a gimmicky move on Nintendo's part.
Johnny
Well, the ps2 sure as hell wasn't an indicator on the amount of amazing games for the ps3. That's not saying the ps3 has no good games, but it certainly wasn't comparable to the godlike level of the ps2. As far as I'm concerned, the DS has been this generation's ps2 when it comes to games. So much cool shit.
excel_excel
People forget how the original DS line up was. In Europe where we got the most titles it was average at best and featured Ubisoft and THQ at their worst.
CorgiShinobi
Yeah, while the DS was an awesome product, the only game I had for a while was Super Mario 64 DS. Well, that, and the Metroid Prime: Hunters demo. It was to the point that my father, having fallen out of the habit previously, had gone on his own to purchase for me a game. It was that Asphalt: Urban GT game, and I at least gave it a chance. Didn't really impress me, and was quite dull. I wish I could have not opened the game as we could have received a full refund, but unfortunate I did want to try out another DS game. TheFlyingGerbil
hmmm, asphalt is a launch title for 3DS too. Maybe I should give that a miss but I really want a racing game for it. Hopefully they'll resurrect extreme G
WTF
I guess I'm almost most definitely now not getting the 3DS for launch since there were other important things this month that needed my money. I'm guessing it's one for the future. However I'll be attending the Billingsgate event and if it's there for cheap or they give it away for free which is unlikely (since there'll be like 2k people at the event) then I might get it. As for launch line-ups this is terrible unless you're absolutely interested in those games - which I personally never was. At least last time there was project rub and Nintendogs was actually new. I'm looking forward to paper mario and the marvelous game from the creator of muramasa on the device though. I'll just forget most rpgs and SMT games since it's region-locked and the likelihood of Atlus and Aksys games coming here are quite slim until when companies like Ghostlight decide to localise it some 4 years later. CorgiShinobi
I would be interested in Nintendogs + cats if I didn't already have a real Pembroke Welsh Corgi. I know people tend to rag on Nintendogs, but I do owe it for helping me convince the parents to have a family dog. I wanted a German Shepard at first, but they were totally uninterested in a large breed. They wanted something small... Perfect solution: the Pembroke Welsh Corgi! A medium-sized breed that, while small, doesn't act like an annoying rat-breed. /end
arbitarty
I'll be getting a 3DS for sure. I'm still fuming over the recent 3d TV boom which is using technology that pre-dates most people watching the tv. wtf seriously. Good on nintendo for actually progressing technology instead of releasing a 3ds that requires glasses, and then 6-months later the "3DS 3D!" which requires no glasses. It shows they are interesting in progression as much as profits.
CorgiShinobi
I just got to see a 3DS, and it blew my mind! After my friend finally gave up the prime position, I got to play the Pilotwings game. As far as the angle to see the 3D, it's fairly obvious to tell which angle works. All you have to do look straight forward. I'm not sure how much distance, but I definitely had an average viewing distance.

CorgiShinobi
Part of me does want to hold out for a 3DS Lite, but another part of me wants that glorious Ocarina of Time 3DS. I feel like this is probably an error that will affect the more dedicated handheld gamer. After all, I think the battery life issue is correlated to the price. People complained about $250, imagine if the 3DS did have an eight hour lifespan, but cost $350-$400. Though my DS Lite is "portable," I tend to leave it plugged in. For the most part, I do play it at home and near power outlets. I no longer ride in the back on a family road trip, and even then, I bring along AC adapters. Right now I do follow the habit of plugging in my DS Lite after I play, especially after a Pokemon session. It's still stupid, but I don't exactly think it'll affect me as much as, well, a grade school child. Heck, maybe it would be good for those kids to be reduced by 3.5 hours. You know, back in my day, AA batteries almost had the same effect.
Yantelope
You know, for all the buzz surrounding the hardware I haven't heard too much about the games. I don't see myself getting a 3DS just yet but if the games end up being good I might jump in. I eventually got a DS but even 5 years down the line I don't feel like there's a great wealth of games to choose from.
WTF
For me it all depends on what's on offer on Thursday. I might get one, who knows. Currently it's a 50-50 on getting it on release. I'm still not too excited but hey I guess it wouldn't be a bad thing.
