excel_excel
Well no games this year using the attachment, and so far its all not required. In fact using the touchscreen to change the camera looks pretty more comfortable than the attachment thingy. I don't mind, not yet anyway. At the very least, every owner has a way to use it, if they want. Resi apparently will use it, but it controlled fine on its own in the demo with Mecenaries. Metal Gear, yeah that'll probably be pretty useful there. Ace Combat is a weird one. Edited September 13, 2011 by excel_excel

TheFlyingGerbil
Oh, happy day! I Street Passed with someone for the very first time! Finally, there are others! So jealous. I paedo'd a game shop with my 3DS in my bag and didn't get any hits and I'm not moving to Tokyo just to get spot passed! I wish Nintendo would let it work over the internet I think they forget most places don't have the required density of consoles for it to be useful. :/
P4: Gritty Reboot
http://deltagamer.com/18161/6-vs-goes-3d Frickin awesome news. May pick up a 3DS soon if cool indie games keep coming over.
excel_excel
Excel casts THREAD REVIVE. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-01-03-3ds-sells-more-in-first-9-months-than-wii-did So 3DS is outsold the Wii in its first 9 months compared to the Wii's first 9 months in America. Also in Japan http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-01-06-3ds-breaks-japanese-sales-records best selling console in a month ever. Impressive. Wonder how sales would have been if they'd launched at 200 as the price point? Or if they'd launched with a more robust launch. Still. Impressive. TCP
Good points, if Nintendo had released at a lower price point with Mario Kart or Mario Land or Zelda at launch, what a difference that could have made. Good rebound though, hopefully this doesn't prevent them from learning from their mistakes....
TheFlyingGerbil
I just hope they lose the failure tag as I think the stench of failure just makes consumers and developers less confident in a product even if the reality is that it is doing well. TheMightyEthan
Remember though that "non-traditional" gamers are a large part of Nintendo's market, and they don't tend to be plugged in to video game news like we are, so most of them won't even have heard that it's supposed to be a failure to be put off by that. Strangelove
Ive got a big itch for getting a 3DS. Ive just got so many doubts about it. I dont know. I feel like i dont need another game console since i already have a ps3, psp, and Wii. Then again, the psp and Wii will soon be obsolete and wont receive any new good games anymore. While I think the Vita will be the better system, im not down for owning a portable ps3 right now. Maybe later on. I just kind of miss having a Nintendo handheld. Im just scared of the redesign and i hate how crappy the battery is. Dammit. People with 3ds, any input on making my decision for me? TCP
So you don't own a DS? Get a 3DS then, you'll have one of the most impressive gaming libraries in gaming history at your disposal, with a lot of great games on their way this year. excel_excel
Damn the battery is a lot better when playing DS games, get it damn it, so many classic DS games to play too!
Strangelove
I sold my dslite after playing all the games I wanted on it. Only game I didn't play was the last Pokemon game, and a 3ds version doesn't look like it'll be coming out soon, so that's the only ds game ill get. I just want to get the new Mario game , ocarina of time, and probably sf4 right now. Maybe I'll just sell my wii and balance board and use that to pay for a part of it. I only use my wii for wii fit nowadays anyways. I can just buy a scale.
TheFlyingGerbil
It's only a guess but I'd have thought with the WiiU coming out this year they won't release a redesigned 3DS as well, but you never know with NIntendo. I would say the battery is definitely pretty rubbish on the current one, you really need to have the cradle set up and leave it in there or you'll find it's dead when you come to play it. Maybe you could use your PSP as an emulator for older Nintendo games until the redesigned 3DS comes out?
Strangelove
Goddammit, the Eshop is so goddamn awfully priced. I want Links Awakening DX bad, but im not paying $6 for it. Theyre fucking crazy. Then they got shit like Zenonia for $7 or $8. Sheesh. The cameras on the 3DS are awful terrible. Im sure i had a phone in 1999 with a better camera. Other than that, im loving the shit out of it. It feels sturdy as hell, the stylus is tons better than the DS one, and the 3D on RE Revelations is awesome. My room has really bad lighting so, I havent been able to use the AR cards yet. I got Ocarina of Time and Im having a lot of fun with it too. I will say that from the launch games i had played, I really thought the graphics were PSP quality, but then I played the RER demo and the graphics are truly awesome on this thing. Im no graphics whore, but that made me feel a lot better about my purchase. I also just ordered SSF4 off Amazon since it was $15 bucks. TCP
$6 is a reasonable price for a 15-20ish hour adventure like Link's Awakening.... especially considering the quality of that adventure.
Mister Jack
Anyone heard anything about that circle pad? Is it actually decent?
excel_excel
Its supposed to be really comfortable but hides pretty much all that shit on the back of your 3DS like the game card slot and other stuff. Its price is a bit of a rip off though, it varies from 25 to 15 quid.
TCP
I'm looking forward to picking it up, the DS/3DS has never been comfortable for my ogre hands, this looks like it'll help. What I'm really waiting for a 3DSiXL with dual circle pads, the extra triggers, and a bigger size. One day...
Mister Jack
Would it be advisable for Resident Evil?
excel_excel
Oh well try the demo of Resi Revelations on the eshop. As far as I can see its not needed, but then again I've read stuff that said it makes stuff like aiming and strafing better. Strangelove
Ive been meaning to bring this up, but does anyone think the 3D is completely useless? I hate it solely because of how unnecessary it is. Its like adding a 3rd analog stick to a controller or something stupid like that. Id rather they remove it and lower the price of the handheld. If they did that(theyre not), id be for it. Youre hardly ever missing anything if you don't use it. There's a few block puzzles in SM3DL that make use of the 3D, but its nothing you couldn't figure out without the 3D on. I wonder how much it cost to develop this glasses free 3D and I wonder how much it costs to put it in the system. And I know its only a visual gimmick, but its hard to say if it makes things look "better" or not. Its not like judging resolution or draw distance or any of that technical stuff. RE Revelations looks great with the 3D, but if it didn't have it I wouldn't feel differently about it. If anything, I forget to use it most of the time. I dunno. I just hate how wasted this was.
P4: Gritty Reboot
I like the 3D. If I'm able to sit at the correct angle, I turn it on and don't like having it off. However, a few games seem to "ghost" the 3D images more than others, and that can be annoying. Somewhat interestingly, I always turn off the 3D before my 4-year-old plays, but he invariably turns it back on as he tells me he doesn't like when it's "flat". So yeah, it's just visual flair/a gimmick if you prefer, but it's a neat one.
FMW
Yeah, I'll agree with that. The 3D tech in the 3DS is completely useless. It has failed to significantly enhance my experiences with 3DS software and it has failed to create significant commercial appeal for the 3DS hardware. It also brings with it the downsides of increased productions costs for Nintendo and the technology only works in controlled environments for the end users. And it drains batteries like nobody's business. This was perhaps not Nintendo's best gamble.
Mister Jack
Also it hurts my damn eyes.
「Advent Chaos」
Somewhat interestingly, I always turn off the 3D before my 4-year-old plays, but he invariably turns it back on as he tells me he doesn't like when it's "flat". So yeah, it's just visual flair/a gimmick if you prefer, but it's a neat one. Uh, not to be a square or anything, but maybe you should enable 3D parental controls? I thought it Nintendo made it clear that it could cause some eye damage on the younger fellows. *looks at box* 7 and up apparently. It hurts my eyes every once in a while and while the 3D is a VERY neat gimmick it feels like I have to be in a perfect position to get the most out of it. Move a bit and everything doubles, also those weird black lines. Those Kid Icarus anime episodes did look pretty cool in 3D though.
