Some forms of vision therapy use Stereoscopic 3D to cure lazy eyes, cross eyes and so on. The reason that Nintendo say under sevens should not use it is because it is believed that the eye is developing up to the age of 7. They're just playing it safe, but to be honest, there is no evidence backing up their fears. Provided it's used in moderation there should be no issues.

I think that would be good for games like animal crossing or puzzle games where you just want a quick burst between longer games, but if they don't sort out the games being tied to an account rather than the console itself there is not a chance in hell that I'll be buying them.

Lets be honest, we all knew it was coming. I can't understand why they didn't announce this a week or two ago. As for the Specs, the larger Screens is an instant win. I was frustrated by the dimensions of my 3ds at the time, and the new one features a massive top screen, thats going to be awesome.

No 2nd Circle Pad though. Nintendo seems to have dropped the ball here. Will the Circle Pad Pro even fit onto this?

I bet the 3D effect will really benefit from the bigger screen. I'm torn about the extra circle pad - I wouldn't want the extra bulk when most games don't support it but if it was added into the hardware I suppose more games would support it. I get the feeling Nintendo don't really want it though so I doubt it will ever be a necessity.

What's up with it not coming with a charger or cradle though? I thought you legally had to supply everything to make an item usable, like watches now all come with batteries and electronics with plugs. Their logic is most people already own a 3DS so don't need another charger?! WTF, it didn't occur to them that once people upgrade they may sell the other one or give it to a relative. Even if it stays in the same house it's not uncommon to want to charge two things at the same time. I literally cannot believe that they're doing that. Nintendo really know how to mess up an announcement.

No circle pad is a massive, massive fail on their part. Yes it would have created a degree of divergence, but it would have been worth it to make the thing accessible to third party console developers (who pretty much all live and breathe two analogue sticks).

Nintendo have survived up to now on being the only people who make loads of money off their console. I don't think they'll get away with it for another generation. My guess is that Gen4 is going to hurt ninty bad.

From what I've read on other sites there is literally nothing in there to charge it. I'm trying to tell myself that it's wrong or lost in translation somewhere, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

edit: I just watched the Nintendo Direct and it definitely doesn't come with any sort of charger. I genuinely thought they weren't allowed to do that in the EU. I hope the cradle is cheap. It comes in red, blue and silver though they all have a grey inside, not the white shown in some of the pictures.

~Other news is Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are delayed until the first half of 2013.

~Nintendo are working on Super Smash Brothers with Namco Bandai, but they only started on it after they finished making Kid Icarus Uprising.

~If you've got Mario tennis Open, there was a QR code in the video (at about 31.30) to get metal mario - the most powerful character in the game.

~There's 20% off some games in the eShop this week (different each week) and next to celebrate its one year anniversary.

~Pokemon Black and White 2 will have 3DS exclusive eShop apps one is a pokedex pro with infor on 600(!) pokemon and the other is pokemon radar which is an AR game that looks a bit like face breakers that allows you to capture pokemon in the real world and put them in B&W 2 , including new forms for the legendary pokemon.

~They're bringing out a pokemon learn to type game that comes with a bluetooth keyboard (I didn't even know 3DS had bluetooth) that will work with any bluetooth device e.g. mobile phones and tablets.

just done a quick screencap of the metal mario QR code if anyone is interested.

The Japanese and European versions will ship without AC adapters as a money-saving measure (really!), as they are compatible with existing 3DS and DSi XL power adapters. It is currently unannounced whether the North American version will include a power cord, though we can't believe that's a question now.

From http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/22/new-3ds-coming-to-us-august-19-for-199-99/

This is completely fucking ridiculous.

Doesn't the 3DS get powered by the DS and DSi chords? How many people, buying a 3DS XL really don't own one of those systems? Fortunately North America is coming with the power chord, so this won't be an issue for most of us.

Pretty cool that Mario's getting DLC. Seems like extra stages/worlds could be ideal for Mario.

Calm yourselves, people. I bet Nintendo will re-think it, or else people will have to spend $3 on a power cable. Not the end of the world. In fact, aside from the asinine lack of a power cord, it's a great move. Now you've got a screen just shy of the Vita's size, and for $199.99 (plus $3 for a cable). The lack of a second analog hasn't hurt any of the games I've played, and I'm glad they're not splitting the market on that one.

They already announced that the is 3DS XL will come with the ac adaptor. I'm guessing everyone outside Japan will get it too.

But uhhh, screen size doesn't matter when the resolution stays the same.

Also, have you not played RE Revelations or MGS3D? they're not comfortable without the second analog. They're definitely playable with one stick., but I'm sure most of us could play with our feet if we wanted to too. Doesn't mean it's good.

If the cable's only $3 then that makes it even more stupid, because they could easily have just included it in the package without upping the cost. For me at least it's the principle of the thing, not how much extra it costs to get the cable.

Re: Mario, I agree that that game seems particularly well-suited to added levels. It's so modular to start with.

Source? Everything I've read says it doesn't have an AC adapter in Europe or Japan, and that there's been no announcement about NA.
