Monday Night Combat

So both studios have proven capable of knocking out sequels, but it's unrealistic of me to expect them to be able to just update the original game?

I would compare this to SF4 vs SSF4. The argument that Capcom used for having to make SSF4 a new game was the fact that there are changes to the core of the game rather than just adding content. I think the same would apply for both of these studio's games. Especially Torchlight 2 and how feature packed that is compared to Torchlight 1.

Anyways, they're not literally killing the game, so don't compare it to EA.

I believe the creation of SSF4 and UMvC3 were met with similar reactions to this. MNC isn't even a boxed product, so it's not like it's difficult to get in an update like this without needing to make a new product. And throughout the beta period Uber managed to make quite a few hefty changes to MNC so I don't see it being a problem now.

They're as good as. As I said before, most F2P transitions involve making the original game F2P in order to boost players and income, not make a second game to be F2P alongside a paid for game.

  • 5 months later...

So, I have recently played a few matches of Super Monday Night Combat with Hakidia, Tiller and Luftwaffles and I have found it much improved.

The player amount makes it a lot more manageable. It requires a lot more strategy to move around the map, and going off by yourself to get kills is suicide. Death means more in this game. If someone gets "fed" then they can spawn Jackbot after Jackbot to easily destroy the enemy team. The new classes are pretty fun too, although it seems that Pit Girl is better than the regular support in most ways, just from my experience.

The free to play model seems virtually the same as LoL in terms of how much time you need to play to buy something, and how much real life money you need to spend to get any other thing. It's going to take a while to get anything without payment, so that kind of sucks.

New classes and Arena's are going to be added with updates, just like HoN and LoL. Hopefully this means that the playerbase will not die quickly, like it did for the first game.

All in all, I would at least give it a download when it comes out to see if you like it at all.

I like the overall... upgrade the game got. More classes are good, but not when you have to pay for them. Fuck that shit. I'd rather pay 20$ for a full game than paying for each and every class, upgrade and skins. Other than that, the main menu GUI is horrible. And that matchmaking thing? Ugh, who the hell was in charge of that? I like my game browsers thankyouverymuch. The gameplay itself is just fine tho, so i'm torn between a solid game that is improved, and shitty everything else.

It appears to me though that unlike some F2P games you can unlock all the content with the in-game currency, so you never have to pay anything. I also like matchmaking, though I know I'm in the minority on that, at least among PC gamers. And it would be nice to be able to set up a server if you wanted, but whatever. I also am really enjoying the upgrade the actual gameplay got. I loved MNC on 360, but for some reason I didn't really enjoy it that much on PC, but I'm enjoying SMNC quite a lot.

*Edit* - Also, I made this thread so we can arrange to play together: http://forum.pressxordie.com/index.php?showtopic=1567&pid=74055&st=0entry74055

First impressions: Terrible.

And I've not even started playing yet.

First issue I came across was that it wants you to register (Which would imply it's not Steamworks, or at least not fully steamworks). This requires an email. That's where I found at that @ is the command for opening the console. So had to write my email out in chat then copy it in.

Then after setting it up so I didn't have some small window I then went into the "locker room" where it promptly disabled every other button on the menu, including Settings and Exit. And I couldn't Alt+F4 out of the game either. So alt-tabbed and killed it in task manager.

Oh a thought I had the other day: I assume those of us with MNC on our accounts when SMNC luanched will get something. Like at the very least a bunch of credits or something?

I think the only thing we're gonna get is that veteran costume. And maybe a nice little badge saying we were in beta.

After playing a bit more i can definitely say that it's a great game as far as the game itself goes. Everything else is still shit. It's nice that you don't need real money to buy classes btw, you just need a shitfuckton of game gold >.>

Actual game impressions didn't really improve from the initial impressions the menu gave. Woot for insta-kills and no sign on how to either do them yourself or at least block them. It wasn't really a fun experience. "oh but losing isn't fun dean". "oh you should ply good games, they're fun when you lose cos it was a good win for the other team, not a shitty game system". What I'm really hoping is it's not something to do with the F2P side. That's only just creeped into my mind that might be involved.

Also of everything I've seen at the moment I'm seeing no reason for them to make a completely new game. More maps and classes did not require a completely new game, prematurely killing off the first one (that folks paid for in good faith). Bleurgh.

As in they come up to you and kill you, instantly. Maybe worth adding that I was a sniper the first round, headshots didn't do shit. But you get a nice pop-up when you hit with like a reticle pop up to be like "yay you got a headshot, only takes off 10% of life so do it a few more times okay?"

They changed the mechanic so there are no more instakills. Headshots still do a lot of dmg and daze/stun opponents (when you upgrade the dmg), and assassins back attack does indeed do a lot of dmg, but if you're the same lvl as the assassin even if you're a squishie it won't take more than half. Might have looked op to you in that game, but remember that that assassin was probably 5-6 levels stronger than you, so ofc he'll do a lot more dmg. Oh, and while you're being grappled you still take dmg when people shoot you, so it might have seemed like an insta-kill.
