Single-Player Gamer

I too am mostly a single player gamer. There are many reasons, starting with my gaming roots.

-The first game system I bought with my own money was the SNES and I loved it. At the same time, I didn't have too many friends. Usually gaming was something I did in place of playing with friends outside.

- I love strong characters and stories. For me, gaming is an escape from reality and I don't like things interfering with the experience (ie: other people.)

- I like to dictate the pace of my game experience. If I want to look around or skip past something, I can do that.

- Most multiplayer games are competitive, and it's damn difficult to be good with so many different games out there. Most competitive games are basically virtual sports, and I hate sports.

SP gamer right here, listing the reasons there;

-I hate people

-I hate people with headsets

-I hate matchmaking systems

-I hate LAG

-I hate not being able to connect to people being forced to troubleshoot while I should be gaming

-I hate the lack of structure

-I hate it when people wanna fuck around when I want to get things done and they want to get things done when I want to fuck around.

-I hate being either a lot better or a lot worse than my cohorts.

-I hate Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch or any gamemode that's purely competitive

-I hate most games (I'm interested in) not including MP coop modes or structure therein.

-I hate it when I can't take SP mode progress into the MP mode.

But most of all I hate it when there are network issues that I cannot explain or make go away, it makes me annoyed with a product I'd otherwise have nothing but praise for (AC:B, Worms 2)

@OKP: I like Borderlands online coop though, so whenever you feel like shooting hordes of similar guys and wombatdogwolves, I'm down

I hate a lot of those things too, but I left a lot of it behind when I joined Xbox Live. Right off the bat, I set my privacy settings so that I don't have to hear anyone besides those on my friends list, and sometimes I'll mute certain people if they're annoying me.

I also rarely experience lag, and when I do it's usually a problem with the server.

I also hate games that lack structure, which is why I really like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and it's Rush mode. It's not perfect, but it directs the flow of players well, and the point system encourages cooperation and teamwork. In regular mode (as opposed to hardcore) there's no griefing or teamkilling which is the bane of my existence.

So sometimes I enjoy multiplayer gaming. Bad Company 2 is a great bonding experience for me and my real-life friends. We've spent so much time together that we can predict each others actions and compliment each others tactics.

I truly thought with all the talk of multiplayer games that single player gamers were a rarity, nice to see so many in the club. I have to agree that Borderlands was not a single player type game at all, it was simply a loot and enemy ass kicking game, one that can only be appreciated with a group or couple of friends. Not saying it's not possible, but I played an extreme amount of hours and always felt like I was missing out, just wasn't as fun.

Resident Evil 5 should have been a one player game, there's no reason for the actual game to only have a multi-player mode so that if I do play single player, I must have an companion with me. The game was wonderful, but it really took the horror out of the game when Sheila could just revived your ass at anytime, and how could I be scared when I got someone watching my back? Disappointing.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I don't think this forum is representative of the gaming public at large. This board appears to lean toward single player games, in particular Mass Effect and The Elder Scrolls (that's why I like it here! :D )

All of my friends are predominately multiplayer gamers. That would be okay if it weren't that they just don't understand that I'm a single-player gamer. They only play games like Mass Effect or TES if there's no one online to play with. So say I'm playing ME and no one else is online, and then my friend comes online, he immediately starts spamming me with game invites. I'll tell him that I'm playing ME and his reaction is always a mix of confusion and shock. He'll say: ".... but... but I'm online now... you don't have to play ME anymore."

Something similar happened when I got AC: Brotherhood. My best friend got it and started sending me multiplayer invites. I told him I had absolutely no interest in the multiplayer and he got really upset: "Dude!? I bought this so we could play it together!"

As if it's my fault that in five years of knowing each other he still hasn't figured out that I'm primarily a single player gamer!

... I just simply don't have the time to play online. :(

Honestly, though, considering that nearly all the multiplayer games played here on the forum are FPSes, and that I nearly don't have ANY experience with an FPS, I'm pretty sure I'd just drag you guys down if I ever went online with you guys, anyway. -_-

This, plus the fact that whenever I dare to venture into MNC, it feels like I can't keep up with everything going on. Or I'm overstimulated by it, and it's hard for me to concentrate on what I need to do.

I love playing fighting games online because it's boring playing the computer all the time. The first weekend I had my 360 hooked up to the internet, I played more than 150 ranked matches in two days. My sore, sore thumbs.

Usually we do, but our work, school, or kid schedules do not sync up. The other person I play with prefers that we play each other online otherwise his girlfriend gets uncomfortable. (We dated for a couple of years.) I usually just pop on and play a couple of matches, and then go back to (insert RPG). Do miss the group though.

Local hardcore fighting game players are way more annoying than online ones. Just trust me on this.

My anecdote is true for everyone.

Sorry, but communities aren't even built up of nothing but "hardcore" players. There's plenty of different skill levels and attitudes. Don't stereotype people.

With my schedule I find it hard to get really good at any particular good to play multiplayer without getting killed by a 10 year old and having how I am a ridiculously weak faggot whose mom got banged last night as I am being teabagged

so much this.

also, i tend to play RPGs and the like so playing online would essentially = mmo and the whole idea of mmo's just creeps me out.
