Games that disappointed you

Like many have mentioned though, FF13 was a HUGE disappointment. I mean, I was looking forward to that for YEARS.

And... it was atrocious.

yeah I forgot to mention that I never finished Prototype and I have pretty much 0 motivation to play it anymore. I should probably get rid of it.

Prototype was horrible.. I remember picking it up for a few bucks, and I immediately sold it after playing for two or three hours.

Darksiders, I didn't think it would be so combat centered. I figured there'd be an equal distribution of platforming-puzzling-combat elements, but alás 2 hours in I was still square-buttoning things to death.

Whoever said that the game borrowed heavily from zelda in terms of exploration and platformpuzzling should be hanged.

Mass Effect 2. I loved it, but I was very disappointed by how scaled-back some of the core RPG systems were. I never felt like I could really customize my Shep aside from picking a class at the beginning.

Spore. I played two games through to the end, uninstalled it and never looked back.

Fable II. I never played Fable I, so I had yet to be burned by Peter Molyneux. Fable 2 was shorter and much shallower than I had thought it would be based on reviews and all the love for the first game. It had some decent bits, but the whole game felt like it was a collection of uninteresting timewasters rather than an RPG with memorable characters and an interesting world to explore.

Oblivion. I loved Morrowind. I found Oblivion to be extremely tedious. The story, the characters, the game world, the gameplay, everything. Fallout 3 would be on this list except Oblivion set the bar for Bethesda so low that I was pleasantly surprised by FO3, despite it's many, many problems.

Napoleon: Total War: I loved the tactical battle improvements, but I hated the new campaign gameplay. I want to conquer the world, dammit!

I'm finally willing to put Fable 2 and 3 on here. I've tried to be patient with the series but Fable 3 has made it clear that the game is never going to be what fans hoped it would be. The first one was flawed but still fun. That was okay in a first attempt but now we're on the 3rd iteration and all the same glaring flaws are still there with new flaws thrown in. I'm giving up on the franchise until something drastic changes.

Not so much FFXIII as much as SquareEnix all together. It seems like all the talent has left the company and now they're just producing crap under names that used to mean something.

Oh god ... Fable 2. I'm not sure if I was disappointed since I wasn't expecting anything amazing, but dear god that game is terrible. Dreading having to eventually get all the achievements on it (I'm sure glad I got it for free thanks to a glitch, would never pay money for it).

Also, does DLC count? Because Underdome and Robolution for Borderlands were so very disappointing.

Demon Souls, a bored fest and agree with Oblivion above, I bought it AFTER Fallout 3 and I expected so much, just boo. Add in Borderlands, no story and while it's a incredible loot game (I LOVE THAT), it's boring by yourself so bummer. I'll also add in Final Fantasy XIII, not sure what the heck happened there.

I'll stop, I could just fill this whole page with games. Let me throw in Blue Dragon! Half mercy, I went in expecting a charming and fun game and got the most boring piece of crap Dragon balls infested game. I paid only $5 and still feel rip off.

Far Cry 2 -- so much potential, but ruined by tediously annoying things like not being able to drive a hundred feet without encountering an armed patrol.

Ghostbusters -- the still images looked great, but when the game is in motion it doesn't look nearly so good. The basic ghost-busting gameplay is excellent, but the rest is just a half-ass shooter. The potential for tons of special features and extras was totally wasted.

Star Wars: TFU -- Most of the game was okay, but the control stick-based boss battles were soooo broken; most notably the end boss battle against the star destroyer. Don't get me started on the sequel, that game disappointed EVERYONE.

CoD: Modern Warfare 2 -- After more than a year of playing CoD4's multiplayer, I finally became sick of non-stop noob tubing. I pick up MoW2 and not only are the tubes back, but they added another tube plus the ability to pick up more ammo, thus creating a non-stop clusterfuck of noobtubage. I fucking hate it.

Medal of Honor -- they caved to public outcry and delivered an unfinished product that can't decide if it's trying to be Call of Duty or not.

The entire Nintendo Wii system -- So much blown potential, so many broken promises, so much shovelware... ugh, to think I froze my ass off at 5 AM to hunt one down during it's launch.

I agree with everything except FarCry 2. The patrols are the most annoying part of the game but I quickly learned to just stop taking the main roads. Beyond that FarCry 2 was one of the more immersive games I've ever played.

lol I'm really not but I keep expecting them to remake the originals. Update a few things or continue it spiritually. But it feels like all they do is steal old names so that they can cash in on the older crowd that remembers the originals.

Gawd I loved the Snes days of gaming

*EDIT*

And N64

as other folks have mentioned ffxiii was obviously disappointing. i didn't hate it as a game, but it certainly wasn't the epic final fantasy i wanted it to be. and phantasy star when they stabbed me in the back and turned into pso. i tried for so long to get into a pso or psu game because i loved phantasy star i-iv so fucking much. i guess the psp games redeem themselves a bit i hear, but i'm reluctant to give them more money. they've hurt me enough.
