Battra92
So you're given a choice of just one console and one handheld from a previous generation to play for the rest of your life. What would you choose? The console is a no-brainer for me and would be the NES. While I do love my Wii/PS3/360 combo I keep going back to the NES. The SNES is a close second, though. Handheld would be a DS or Gameboy Advance SP. Probably will lean towards the latter for its awesome backwards compatibility.
Yantelope
PC. But seriously... SNES. Too many good games on there. Edited December 28, 2010 by Yantelope

I choose NES Your hands will hurt for the rest of your life. Hmmm, this thread is really 2 questions actually, but I'll go with PS2 to play for the rest of my life, while Snes is my favourite console. GBA as the handheld, it has Zelda LTTP/Minish Cap, Golden Sun and various other RPGs that'll keep me entertained. Mister Jack
This is a tough one for me. See, the console I remember the most fondly from my childhood is my Genesis, but if I was allowed to have as many games as I wanted for the console of my choice, I might have to go with the SNES. There are a bunch of classics I haven't played because I didn't own the console long enough or early enough.

Gyaruson
Awwww, man. That's a toughy. Probably the Super Nintendo, just because that's where my gaming sensibilities started kicking in and I was able to discern good games from crappy ones. Plus, it absolutely ruled the 3rd party realm back then. Portable would be GBA, no questions.
Little Pirate
SNES. Had a GREAT amount of games to play, and half of them are still popular, now.
Commander Shepard
For the sake of moderation, to keeping this thread related to retro video games: Retro games need to go a bit further back than the DS, GBA, PS2, or even the Gamecube. Most people would agree that retro would fall under NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy/Gameboy Color, Dreamcast, things like the Atari 2600, or arguably the PlayStation 1 (Just to name a few popular systems) and prior systems. If you're going to cite PC, give a bit more detail on the era of games or a specific PC platform (Such as the Amiga or C64). (Contribute here http://board.pressxordie.com/index.php?/topic/374-what-is-retroclassic-to-you/ to voice your opinion on what you think should be retro.) If Battra92 would prefer to keep this as "What video game platform from a previous generation would you..." I can move this to a more appropriate category to include the more recent consoles and handhelds. Also, changed the thread title to be a bit more appropriate. Battra92
Where do you plug it in though, NES has no USB ports, right? Oh snap, I didn't even notice that this was a modified controller. But yeah, the dogbone controller from the toploader. Best NES controller outside of the Advantage. The Max would be awesome if the D-Pad didn't suck.
MottZilla
SNES for sure. Though PS1 might not be a bad choice due to the huge library. For a portable, Gameboy Advance SP is obviously the best choice. Too bad Game Gear didn't survive.
Zeo-Gold92
I hope I'm not breaking any rule by bringing back this thread since it hasn't been active in quite some time. Just wanted to add my thoughts. I've flipped flopped over what my favourite retro platform is, lately it's been bouncing around between Megadrive, SNES and Saturn. I have a lot of great memories with the megadrive,it's first where I experienced my love with Mortal Kombat, plus I love Truxton. SNES is actually a more recent love, having only picking up one for a few titles and falling in love with it more than I ever had intended. Notable titles I tend to go back to on it: Battletoads, Killer Instinct and ofc Mario The Saturn is another system that I've just recently been exposed to. It pretty much feeds my love for arcade fighters, so many great ports from arcade appeared on this and at the time it was my only go to for that sort of stuff. I would rank my CMVS up high but the games are far too expensive through the regular channels, so my experience is limited there.
TheFlyingGerbil
It's fine to bring up old threads that look interesting to you. What's Truxton about I've never heard of that one?
Zeo-Gold92
Truxton is a vertical scrolling shooter, it's very fun and I had an addictive stint with it for the longest time. It's pretty tough though. Well worth a go if you've never played it and the genre interests you.
TheMightyEthan
We welcome necromancers around here. I also think you deserve some kind of award for what is likely the oldest thread that's ever been resurrected.
Zeo-Gold92
If ever there was a forum to bring back it would need to be one about retro goodness. Since it's been awhile since most of the responses before I brought it back to life, has anyone changed their stance on their favourite? Or has since added any new favourites to their collection? TheFlyingGerbil
I loved our Acorn Electron, chuckie egg was definitely the highlight, but I think my memories around it are what make me look back on it fondly. So I would say my favourite was probably our Amiga 500. Point and clicks were my favourite, Simon the Sorcerer, Monkey Island etc. With my brother we'd play things like New Zealand Story, cannon fodder, sensible soccer, speedball. It was ace. My first taste of console gaming was my gameboy. It had tetris in the box which if I'd never bought another game I'd've been happy. It also had Link's Awakening which my be my favourite game of all time.
