TheForgetfulBrain
Been to any good shows lately? Any musicians/bands that are amazing live? Any you saw and were terribly disappointed by? Share stories and live videos you particularly like, right here. To start: This is actually from a show I was at. You can't see me in any of the clips, but I was up at the front of the stage, on the left. Tiny venue, so they were right in front of us. Best show I have ever been to, easily. These folks give a really amazing performance and they are just ridiculously nice. Next, Declan de Barra gives an incredible performance on Irish television, with a song from his first solo album. He was formerly in the excellent, but short lived band Clann Zu (they would have been amazing to see live).
Dee
I haven't been to any lately but the last concert I went to was Nine Inch Nails in January, one of Josh Freese's last shows. Pretty toight if you ask me.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I think I have gone to too many shows for a lot of them to stand out. For most of what I listen to the performances are always fairly good even if the music is mediocre. Like stuff like Mogwai which I'm not into anymore and still translated into a great live show. If you pick your shows right then they will all be good.
staySICK
last concert I was at was... a band I can't think of but know a few of their songs with CAKE and the Smashing Pumpkins. the Smashing Pumpkins were very disappointing and we left totes early into their set. Hoping to go see Dropkick Murphys with Against Me! (which is a strange combination, I figured DKM would be a little more selective after the DKM/A-F tour back in...98?) early next year. and I'm hoping MSI tours again, I have fun at their shows. Chewblaha
This is one of the seven concerts I've ever been to. The best one as well.
staySICK
I'm strange and blink-182 remains like my favorite band. I finally got to see them for the first time with the reunion tour with =W=. It was also like the biggest concert that wasn't a "festival" or what have you (Warped Tour and the like) that I've ever been to. These are from that actual show: "Kansas City Perverts and BBQ" The only video I can find from that show of the Dammit finale is the one I recorded and uploaded, but I don't feel like posting that one. Oh, and seeing AFI is special each time. My opinion of their music changes from album to album but damn if they don't put on one of the best live shows, imo. hatch
blink 182 makes me feel nostalgic as heck whenever I hear them, today I was driving around and heard "first date" and sang along to it like a motherfucker. I never would have said they were my favorite band when I was in middle or high school but really I can't think of too many singles of theirs that I didn't really like aside from the sappy ones like adam's song or miss you I think my fave concert was the toadies who I saw in deep ellum which is like the artsy or stabby district of dallas depending on who you ask. I saw them with a band called BABOON and I think they prefer to be referred to with all capitals and I thought they were bad but everyone else seemed into them so w/e. supposedly it was gonna be the toadies last show which was true for like...three months and that isn't even including shows that the burden brothers played (who I would actually want to see more than the toadies at this point). after the show I nearly passed out, the next morning I did (six staples in the scalp w00t) and almost got stabbed contributing to the artsy/stabby rep deep ellum has. thank you for reading
Chewblaha
A friend of mine claims he went to see Slayer once and that whoever their drummer was got hurt and that Travis Barker filled in for him.

Tbh, over the years, it seems like he's done a lot of random shit like that. True or not.
MagicMagicPony
Of Montreal puts on p good shows the last tour before this one involved an upright coffin filled with shaving cream and gold lame briefs
Hot Heart
Last band I saw live, when I wasn't playing, was Rx Bandits. They're always freakin' awesome. In the past few years they've become a bit more well-known over here so the venue was totally packed (not a big venue though). Their drummer is a fuckin' nutcase to keep up that kind of drumming for so long. Also during the past few years, their horn section has decreased to nothing, so it was nice to see the crowd singing those parts. At other times I think the band had little bits figured out on guitar or keys anyway. Years ago, while I was at uni, they played a show in a little pub and, beforehand, had been asking if anyone had somewhere for them to crash. I had offered up my shared house (fortunately, my friends were fans too) but they decided to stay with the girl with large boobs. At the same venue, before that, I saw The Night Marchers which was John Reis' latest project. Been a fan of his for quite some time but never got to see Rocket From The Crypt live so it was cool to finally witness a live show. Couldn't find videos from then but it was as rockin' as this. It was funny at the end because he just started eating a banana while everyone else was expecting an encore. So the crowd were just staring at him for a few minutes while he was trying to convince them there wouldn't be one. There wasn't one. And Reel Big Fish are a band I have seen many times over the years. My friend is a huge fan so always sees them when they're in the UK. They always put on a good show, but if you've seen them a lot the 'material' isn't always new. Their version of Suburban Rhythm done in many different styles (disco, death-metal, country) is great the first time you see it...but then it happens every time after that. diedan
Probs the best shows I've ever been to was Blonde Redhead a few years ago, Dillinger Escape Plan a few years before, and Zao in 1999. Recently I've just been going to local shows at bars/small venues. It's the way I like my live music these days. Blonde Redhead (not the show I was at, but same venue): Dillinger Escape Plan (not even remotely the same show, but possibly around the same time): This is the Zao show I was at. I'm not in the video, but that pit was insane: Last show I went to was a Laarks show at the entry (video from a few years ago): Oh, and Zoo Animal was also playing at that show the other day: Edited December 30, 2010 by diedan
Hot Heart
The first band I went to see live was Less Than Jake...but at that time there were some serious weather problems (flooding and such) so I think the whole thing got delayed as LTJ were taking a long time to arrive...and my friend's dad had driven all the way to pick us up at midnight (when a show would normally have ended) so I never got to see them that night. However, I did get to see Wilt and MxPx and really liked them (I was young. Don't judge me!). MxPx may be cheesy but their shows are good fun. This wasn't the performance (usually there's the now trademark 'bass toss') but still good. At the same venue I saw Night Marchers, Rx Bandits and various other bands (it's a popular little venue) I did get to see The Littlest Man Band and Suburban Legends (before they became a bit more...discoey?). Was definitely a cool show. Couldn't see any live videos for the former, but this is a cool song. I'm gonna be a bit of a whore and link one of my own live performances. It was a fairly big crowd and I think we played quite well (shame the guy's camera was having problems). I improvise a bit of stuff so I'm pretty proud of this. Tiffany
It's been nearly two years since I've gone to a concert... I think I need to change that. Of course, that concert was The Eagles and the only thing that can top that in my mind is The Who.

TheForgetfulBrain
I dunno why I've never seen Dredg live. I mean, they've been one of my favorite bands for almost ten years and I now live where they play constantly. What the hell, Brain, too lazy. Battra92
Last year the woman and I went to see Our Lady Peace in Buffalo. She's the fan though I have no objections to them, I suppose. This was from that concert, I believe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meyoH-aQLOw We also saw Deluka and then later Company of Thieves (not in the same night) at a bar in Albany, NY. They both put on great shows. Deluka FWIW, was on the GTAIV soundtrack.

Hot Heart
It may sound cliché, but I prefer older Muse. I can't help it... Not that that's a bad song or anything.
Toshi
I don't know, I do like their older stuff more than The Resistance, but Starlight is my favorite song from them.

staySICK
necro thread. Saw the Get Up Kids last night. Amazing. They were reaching way back into the vault, playing songs I hadn't heard in years, like off Four Minute Mile. Here's one of my favorite songs being performed: Only like the third video I've shot with my Bloggie Touch, I guess when switching hands I accidentally cupped the mic, only explanation I can come up with for the audio fade. Lots of bass in the club. I wanted to record Campfire Kansas but there were a lot of people doing that one, so I would have had a dozen arms in the way. Mr W Phallus
Last proper gig I went to was Cut Copy last weekend, who were great (once you got used to the drunk/high people knocking into you all the time). It was a pretty cool venue in the basement of my SU, nice and intimate. As for the best gig I've ever been to, it would have to be a toss up between Justice at Leeds Fest '08 and Radiohead at Leeds Fest '09. Two completely different kinds of music though, so it's kinda hard to compare. (I was a lot further forwards and crowd surfed out to the finale ) Finally, whilst it was mostly DJs so not technically live I had an awesome night out on friday (probably helps that I was off my face). Julio Bashmore, Catz n Dogz and this guy: Btw, do you guys go to gigs inebriated or not? Personally it depends, one off gigs I tend to be fairly sober, at festivals I tend to be in a perpetual state of slight drunkenness and for club nights/electronic music I tend to abuse alcohol or other substances.
