Little Pirate
Some people are terrified by spiders. Some people can't stand clowns. Some people are even frightened by baldness. What gives you the willies? Post it here.
Little Pirate
I cannot stand parasites. If my kitty gets fleas I will wash EVERYTHING, give him a bath and comb him thoroughly, then go sleep at my parents for one night.

rainetemplar
I really really cannot stand spiders. Also, I wouldn't call it severe, but sometimes I suffer from claustrophobia a little.

TheForgetfulBrain
Heights. Oh god. And driving in city traffic. (Stemming from my totaling my car in a very stupid manner [no alcohol involved] on Prom night Senior year and then moving to San Francisco where you don't need a car, and then having six and a half years without driving to let that event fester) Edited December 28, 2010 by TheForgetfulBrain
deanb
To a minor degree dogs. I won't like shit myself n flee but I get raised heart rate n such. Small dogs not so much mind. Had a German sheep dog bite me back when I was young. Still have the scar on my leg. So not exactly irrational. Fear of heights n depths. I freak out if I can't feel the floor in swimming pool. As such I've not gone swimming for many years. London eye was fun. All the ways it could snap n land in Thames. Or the pods falling off. Edit: yeah cars scare me. Both in being ran over and running over. Drives Ben barmy cos he likes to dash across road n not have to wait on or walk to lights.

I love swimming! Though I did step on a catfish in a lake once--and I remember freaking out pretty bad because it was huuuuuuge. I don't like not being able to see things underwater. It's why if I ever go swimming in the ocean I'm staying near shore.

On the subject of underwater, I also get kinda timid when I have to go underwater in game. I played Shark Hunting games one too many times so I get a little freaked. TheForgetfulBrain
I have a strange obsession with underwater beasties, the larger the better. It's scary as hell, but that's what I love about it. Then again, I don't imagine I'd share that enthusiasm while actually at sea or swimming. As soon as I start thinking about stuff like that, I give myself the heebie-jeebies reallly easily. [EDIT] Ohh - and not to boot any sterotypes or anything, but I don't do well with spiders. hatehatehatehate Edited December 28, 2010 by TheForgetfulBrain
Dee
While I am not a fan of spiders--they freak me out no matter how big--I can handle them if I need to. I think my worst phobia and most debilitating is aerophobia. I hate flying. I will not fly. I have panic attacks when I think about flying, when any member of my family flies and or a friend. In fact, I have them call me the moment they can to let me know they made it safely. I haven't been on a plane since I was around 16 years old, so about 9 years now. No, it wasn't because of 9/11, but rather, a nasty bout of turbulence over Lake Michigan coming back from Europe. I don't know exactly why, but I think I just became extremely aware of how high up, how fast we were going and how deadly it would be if the plane were to crash. And honestly, I would rather die in a car than a plane despite the statistics. I've lived through a number of car accidents, but you don't hear a lot of people surviving plane crashes. >_> Edited December 28, 2010 by Dee
Little Pirate
I've never been afraid of spiders. They've spooked me a couple times (Had one land in my hair and I didn't realize it til I went to brush it) but that's about it. I used to actually pick them up and mess around with them as a kid--much to the horror of my sister and mother.
TheForgetfulBrain
I used to be cool with flying. Loved it, in fact. Until a few years ago, flying across the country, I realized I was in a huge chunk of metal magically suspended miles above the earth. Now I tend to get a little nervous. Little Pirate
I've only flown once and I slept the whole way. Being in car is a little scary for me--I don't drive, myself. I've been hit by them walking across the street and I've been in accidents with friends. People drive scary and can be REALLY stupid. Texting while driving and using your knee to steer... -Shudder-
deanb
Despite fear of heights I don't mind flying. Only done it a few times though. Spiders are just slightly annoying. Flies more so. Spiders kill flies. I spare spiders life. I'll dump big ones in garden. Small can stay. Less than size of a cent.

They keep to themselves and eat the bugs that get in your face.
HotChops
well, to be technical there's a significant difference between a fear and a phobia -- the latter often being completely irrational. I actually have one particularly severe phobia, but it's something that I don't share with others. I have a fear of dying in a commercial plane crash. I'm not afraid of flying, nor am I afraid of being blown out of the sky in a jet fighter, but I'm specifically afraid of being in a commercial jet accident of some kind. hmmm, that's pretty much it. Nothing besides that.
deanb
Yeah I think for the purpose of this thread fear n phobia are fairly inter changeable. Most folks seem to be qauntifying their level of fear anyway.
Little Pirate
Well, for sake of being technical, maybe we should change the title to 'Fears'.
