deanb
It would be interesting to see. I think SE are doing well with Eidos. I think they're kind of using the western studios as learning, just in owning them they can see the sausage factor in practice and in full detail. I'm not sure they'd want to be getting Eidos to make Japanese games. Then again it would give direct insight into "how would a western studio make a Final Fantasy". Of course it could end up with Eidos making the most successful FF title of all time and make SE look like morons. Rich morons, but morons nonetheless. TheFlyingGerbil
So, do all you sexy bastards think Nintendo paid to get this on the WiiU? Either way it can only be good news and I hope it's a sign of decent 3rd party support for a change.
Strangelove
I think it's fake. Tons of people are saying this was a video from 2011.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Not to mention it's FFv13 and not FF15.
deanb
Eh, the current rumour is what was Versus is now FFXV. Which given the long pace of development as the stigma of FFXIII, would make sense. FF Agito XIII became FF Type-0 already so it's not without precedent.
TheFlyingGerbil
don't break my heart.
TCP
I would be REALLY surprised if Versus was not XV, this was rumoured awhile ago. Also I don't think that's from 2011, as the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary is this year, and also that logo was unveiled earlier this year. EDIT: And on second watch I don't think I've ever seen any of that Versus footage before.. Maybe the shot of whats his pickle getting off the chair. Strangelove
With how long Versus is taking, theyre definitely going to make it multiplatform and they probably will make it XV. A "real" FF game staying exclusive to a console is laughable nowadays.
Mister Jack
Versus XIII becoming XV is probably the best thing that could happen to it at this point. At least then we know it's gonna friggin come out. Unless, you know, Square Enix decides to just stop making Final Fantasy.
TheMightyEthan
I've always been confused about the FF numbering. Do the "versus" games have anything to do with the numbered title they go with?
TCP
Versus and Agito originally were loosely tied in with XIII, basic themes, maybe set in the same worlds but in different eras or something. I think fal'cie and all those words were going to be in all the games. Type-0 is still apparently in the "Fabula Nova Crystallis" series, so I'd imagine Versus/XV would still be as well. Strangelove
They were trying to make something similar to the Ivalice Alliance(FFT, FFTA, FF: RW, FF12) and have FF13,13-2, Versus 13 and Agito(now called Type-0) all take place in the same universe. TCP
Yeah! I don't think you were going to come across Lightning or anything. But things like those ruined cities near Gran Pulse in XIII, I always sort of figured was the Tokyoesque city in Versus. deanb
Strangelove hit the nail on the head, it's just part of the Fabula Nova Crystalisis. And as shown with the Ivalice Alliance they don't all need to be the same numbering/naming to be attached. In fact with FFXIII-2 existing not only would it mean attaching Versus to the slightly damaged goods of FFXIII, it also causes confusion in whether or not it is a direct sequel. Also Ethan this would be the only "versus" game.
CorgiShinobi
Eh, got switched up on me... Anyway, part of me feels as though the video is fake, but we are rather close to E3 and there have been a lot of reveals for games like Dead Space 3 and Star Wars 1313. Not to mention I'm in the camp that says Versus 13 becoming 15 isn't that far off base.
deanb
I will point out, I could probably make that video. Mainly a case of some Versus footage, a Final Fantasy logo at the end. The play it and film from grainy camera with whooping friends. It's just so easy to make fairly convincing fake leaks these days. I had this video thrown towards me last night actually, pointing out it still was yet to hit the bigger blogs, and my response pretty much was unless it's a direct source then we don't do rumours. CorgiShinobi
Yeah, you only see two dudes and it doesn't sound like there are that many people. Are we to think this was an internal private "announcement" and someone just had to record it?
TCP
It could be fake. But can someone find that Versus footage then? Square has only released a very little amount of footage for the game, but I honestly can't recall ever seeing that footage before (I could be mistaken). And if it is real, the reason for major sites not picking it up could always be embargos. The part that really makes me suspicious is the Wii U, but that could explain some of the delays, I suppose. TheMightyEthan
Also Ethan this would be the only "versus" game. Ah, for some reason I was thinking there had been a Versus VIII or XII or something.
TCP
Confirmed as fake, according to Kotaku! If there's any news on Versus to be told, they're probably saving it for TGS.
deanb
Kotaku have confirmed it as fake? Oh well in that case it's most likely bloody real then.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Kotaku reached out to ask Square Enix about the whole thing, and a representative told us flat-out, "We can confirm that the trailer is fake."
TCP
Apparently FFIII is coming to the PSP... a little late.... and confusing that it won't come out on the Vita, but I guess Japan is still in love with the PSP. At least you'll be able to play FFI - FFX on Vita. http://andriasang.com/con1d6/ff3_psp_jump/
