How's the weather?

We're supposed to have like the freaking storm of the century here tonight. It's to the point that local residents are freaking out, when the normal reaction to tornado weather is "let's go sit on the front porch and watch."

About a year and some months ago, we were suppose to have the freaking blizzard of the century. Campus was closed early, and most everyone was staying inside.

I had to travel to my sister's and while I was halfway there, it began. I was really nervous because I thought it was going to get worse and it was already so dark. I made it to her home, but not even an hour later... IT STOPPED! There was absolutely nothing else the entire night or morning. It hadn't even "snowed," just some flakes.

So yeah, when things are suppose to be "terribad" with weather, unless we're talking tsunamis and earthquakes, don't hold your breath.

The night before last we got freaking 6 inches of rain.  In one storm.  In mid July.  That is unheard of.  We don't usually get 6 inches of rain altogether from July through September.

Not sure about your turn of phrase there. "Crapshoot" means "down to luck", not "unfortunate",

It's been mixed here. Some thundery showers, some sunshine.

How's the driving going? You getting a feel for it? Make sure you do plenty of practice with family and such. It will stress the living hell out of them, but it will do you the world of good.

Unfortunately my fiancee (we live together) just bought a brand new car. There's no way i'll be sitting in the drivers seat on that thing. As for the driving itself, i think its going okay. I've driven on some pretty busy roads. I need to remember to turn the wheel a little more on corners. I'm still struggling to work out where the wheels are in correlation to where i need them to be to turn.

Hmmm, once you get a bit more exprienced, if you can I would suggest getting an old, cheap car that you can insure yourself on and practice in. It's a bit of expense, but it made a huge difference to my progression when I started doing the driving down to the shops etc etc everyday.

It's kind of like learning a language, it's easier when you are immersed in it.

This driving thing is such an interesting cultural difference to me.  Where I'm from everyone who can even remotely afford it starts driving as soon as they're legally allowed to (and many before that), because you have to be able to drive to get anywhere.  There's no public/mass transit at all and it's typically 30 miles or more between towns of any size.  Hell, even the movie theater is five miles outside of town because we share it with another nearby town, so its built in between (we're unusually close to each other for this area).

I learned to drive ASAP because I lived in a village out in the sticks. ~10 miles to the nearest shop. My youngest sister didn't because she is lazy, lacks ambition and had friends and two siblings to ferry her about.

These days though I almost never drive, unless it is to visit family. This year I've done around 3000 miles in 7 months. Two years ago I was doing over 24,000 miles a year.

Driving in the rain on switchbacks in wine country is one of my most favorite things that I've done. Tree cover along the road so it wasn't that wet. I got to mention that I was breaking in my Prius as well. Good thing I don't have a sport car... yup, over the speed limit on a rainy day on blind switch backs and curves.

Now I live in a city where I don't really have to use my car. Biking almost everyday has done me good. Still haven't gotten that amazing bike ride in yet but I for sure gotten some good ones. It is all thanks to General Weather.

Weather now is clear and perfect. Ah, Central Coast... whatever hit Revan yesterday only gave me mugginess and maybe a slight sprinkle during a partly cloudy day.

I don't drive because driving lessons are fucking expensive. And the car and insurance on top of that even more so. It's more than likely that I'll end up with a car that'll drive me, but so far public transport and my own two legs are doing myself fine.

As for weather I'm hating the skies are grey but there's clearly heat in the air. So you're having to be prepared for rain and thunder, but not been too wrapped up or you'll swelter.

Honestly, i could get by on my bike and paying for the petrol in my GF's car; but i know that it'll be worth it in 4-5 years when my insurance has dropped down a little and im more comfortable behind the wheel.

The earlier storms have subsided. Its been pushing 30degree's again. I fucking hate this weather.

definitely it's worth learning asap for anyone, even if you've no intention of getting a car - you never know when you want/need one, e.g. a job comes up that you need it for, and it is easier to buy/hire a car than learn to drive, take your tests and buy a car - most opportunities will have passed by that time. Plus it will only get harder and more expensive.

Also if you travel somewhere where you might need to drive.

After about two months without anything, my area is getting about .25in to an inch of rain. Amount depends on where you are at. We'll be far below average this year but this will help. In the seven day outlook, there is also another chance of rain later this week. Can this be? Is winter back in California?
