Waldorf and Statler
Well if we're talking of fantastic openings of all kinds, could I go ahead and say that the Dragon's Dogma opening song is one of the b- pfffffffffffffffffffft hahahaha
Strangelove
That song is godawful.
CorgiShinobi
It's a guilty pleasure of mine, that song. It kinda pumped me up to grind away in the game, but at the same time it wasn't special. I guess Dark Arisen did away with the song, and if I had to guess, went with the original piece.
Hot Heart
Oh, I remembered the other one from the first time I made this thread: inFAMOUS. That was a really cool opening, with that splash screen, then you press Start and BOOOOM! And then mystery!
TheRevanchist
BioShock was one that stuck with me. In a plane, heading for long trip and then you crash into the ocean. A fire is going on around you, and then you have to swim for life. Upon entering the mysterious area, you are welcomed to Rapture. Great opening sequence of events. Edit: I think I need to pull that game out and start playing it again. Edited May 7, 2013 by TheRevanchist
Mister Jack
In general I like games which, like inFamous, drop you right into the action from the title screen when you choose new game. No loading screen, no configuration or file select. You just hit start and away you go. Another example is the first God of War. Kratos' face is there, and as soon as you hit start the story begins with "The gods of Olympus have abandoned me." I know it's a minor detail but it's always a pleasant surprise for me when that happens. I can't think of other examples off the top of my head right now, though. Hot Heart
I don't think it's quite the same, but Brutal Legend has that really cool menu screen.
Waldorf and Statler
I'm an avid defender of Brutal Legend. The gameplay may have come as a surprise, especially from the demo, but the story, the characters, the art and the music were fantastic.
deanb
Hey, I remember making this topic ages ago, but I guess it was deleted or something. It's still here. Kingdom Hearts 2. Okay, but really: SMT: Nocturne, FFX, half of Dragon Age: Origins, Final Fantasy VI, probably Bioshock, HL2, Xenogears, Dark Cloud 2. This topic makes me really wistful, for whatever reason. I powerfully associate games with their openings and endings. I like Nocturne (despite not finishing it so far) but I think the good bit of the opening takes a while to get to, with the apocalpyse stuff and cult stuff not happening until about half an hour in. And FFX I'd added in the initial start of this thread.
Hot Heart
It's still here. Oh, really? If I go to 'Topics I've Started' in my profile I only see one. I just assumed some housecleaning had taken place.
Waldorf and Statler
You're asking too many questions bub. If we told you anymore, we'd have to dispose of you. Don't see how deep the rabbit hole goes. Edited May 8, 2013 by Waldorf And Statler
deanb
Mine only lists 5, going back to March of this year. It's likely part of the automated housecleaning scheduled tasks built in.
