Tomb Raider: the Reboot

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's a terrible name.  It sounds like the title of a Michael Bay film.

Dark Side of the Tomb Raider

In the third game its revealed that Lara Croft has slowly gained enjoyment of killing people, whether they be good or evil. It is here where we must explore the tomb she has crafted, both physical and mental.

Yeah there was something off about that headshot being shown prominently like that. They showed it for like 5 seconds. It makes you think about it. OMG she just shot an arrow to his head! And then followed by "We become who we're meant to be..."

I don't mind the title much. But yeah it feels a bit weird.

I would change it to "Tomb Raider 2: Among Tombs".

Apparently Rise of the Tomb Raider is an Xbone exclusive.  What the actual fuck?

*Edit* - Actually it's an "Xbox" exclusive, so I guess it could be on 360 too, but Holiday 2015 seems kinda late for a cross-gen game.

Unless MS Footed the bill or the majority of it, this is a really bad decision. Not to mention that it's really hard to trust big publishers with exclusivity.

Personally, I'm not hurting over it. I liked the first one quite a bit, but a sequel to that game isn't a huge anticipation of mine. Now if the game comes out and the reviews are amazing, then I'll be annoyed.

Well they just advertised Ori and the Blind Forest as "Exclusive to Xbox and PC, Coming This Holiday" so it's fair to assume that the TR announcement mentioning only Xbox means it's not coming to PC, at least in 2015 (again with that ambiguous language).

Yeah, I'm not arguing it's not just a timed exclusive, I'm sure it is, cause it would be insane otherwise.  All I was trying to say is that a lot of people were saying "it's probably just console exclusive and will still launch at the same time on PC", but the way they didn't acknowledge PC for TR but did for Ori to me implies the timed exclusivity applies to all other platforms, PC included.

The fucked up part is that the one that really suffers is the game. Say it is a timed exclusive, then the game would have to come out on PS4/PC in holiday 2016. I don't need a time machine to now that holiday 2016 will probably be a packed holiday for gaming. Its that sweet spot where developers with full knowledge of new consoles release their second wave of games. Especially if PS4 is still at the top by then.

This year old port would stand no chance. Only people that would buy it are people like me, and not for full price. Last year's TR was cool and all, but it's no Mass Effect 2.

And weren't Square Enix bitching about the first game not making money until the Definitive Edition came out? They're going to be really disappointed.

Geoff Keighley's been investigating, and says:

Spoke to many people here at Xbox press conference on Tomb Raider. Official line is that the game is "exclusive on Xbox for holiday 2015."

So yeah, pretty much confirmed as a timed exclusive.  Wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't even wait for holiday 2016, maybe just March or something.

Getting sick and tired of Microsoft/Sony paying to keep content off each other's systems. It's one thing when you help develop the game or help fund it like Bloodborne, Bayonetta 2, or all those PlayStation indie games, but paying to keep a game off your competitors system, just makes you and the publisher/developer look like assholes.

I have no info either way, but I get the feeling this is perma-exclusive. I imagine the thought process went:

1. Sales of reboot were below expectations.

2. Uncharted 4 will take a lot of PS market share.

3. TR goes XB1 exclusive. Gets MS money, so less risk for studio, only need to develop for one machine means lower cost.

4. No competition on XB1, so can secure more share of the platform means decent revenue, mitigates the lack of PS purchases.

All this means less risk and higher margins (if not greater overall profits) than developing it on your own and waiting to see how you do at the tills.

That said, I think it sucks and I hope it is just timed. Alternatively, CD can bring an exclusive Legacy of Kain game to PS4 and I'll call it evens.

TN: sure. Then a PC release later in 2016.

Edit: The more I think about it, the more it seems like this is a smart move to avoid competing with Uncharted 4 on the PS4. I would expect that it would come to PS4 in the back half of 2016, or even earlier, depending on when UC4 drops.

I don't think so. I read about that a little while ago and apparently Sony and Square have had business like this for years, it went both ways. It wasn't just a dick move on Sony's part. http://www.vg247.com/2014/05/13/sony-stock-sale-is-square-enix-returning-a-favour-says-producer/

Besides, it wouldn't account for the lack of a PC version.
