TheMightyEthan
I ran the game at a fairly consistent 55-60 fps (don't think I was on ultra) without TressFX. With TressFX it would drop to like 10-15.
staySICK
see I was often wondering if there was a default cap because my frames would seemingly hit a ceiling at
TheMightyEthan
Did you maybe have adaptive half-refresh vsync turned on in the Nvidia control panel?
staySICK
i..don't know. hmm
Chronixal
As someone with a duff laptop and never got round to it before, I think I'll drop some money on a nicer liking TR for the PS4.
Mister Jack
So Lara has a new look. I can't particularly say I think it's an improvement.
deanb
Which is which, also it looks mostly like different lighting, though bottom one has a less dirty arm (which would make me think top is the new one)
Mister Jack
The bottom one is the new one.
Hot Heart
She still looks pretty BUT NOT PRETTY DIRTY. IT'S NOT THE SAME.
Mister Jack
This might be more helpful.
Hot Heart
Oh, that is...not nice.
Chronixal
Yeah, the original was much better looking. Not an improvement. She looks more derp in the second.
staySICK
could this be a case of uncanny valley? This might be more helpful. I actually don't mind the second picture here. It almost looks like her right cheek (away from camera) has burn scarring in the newer one. The first set of pictures Jack posted I didn't care for the new version. TheMightyEthan
I don't think it's a case of uncanny valley, neither one is especially more realistic or creepier, they're just different.
deanb
I'm not seeing the need for them to be different either. It's not like a case of whacking Advent Children Cloud in over the model in FFVII HD, they're both similar quality models between the 7th n 8th gen versions. There was nothing wrong with the original model either that needed fixing up. Maybe something wrong behind the scenes? Lack of licences on using likeness for platforms beyond the original 3? The lost/broke the original model files? Also second one in the second set she has a thousand yard stare going on instead of look of concern the first has that I imagine is the desired effect. jayc4life
So I guess with this being a remodeled Lara Croft, this could technically stand as a reboot of a reboot?
Strangelove
I prefer the first one because it looks a bit more animated and cartoony(Like TLoU), the second one looks more realistic to me(Like Beyond). Maybe its modeled more closely after the voice actress? Thats the only thing I can think of.
Saturnine Tenshi
First one looks better. Second one looks like they threw a blur and color dodge on it and called it a day.
CorgiShinobi
http://www.ign.com/videos/2014/01/13/tomb-raider-definitive-edition-ps4ps3-comparison-and-analysis Graphical Comparison with Executive Producer Scot Amos Basically goes over what changes were made and how it's all different from the original. I can see the obvious need of higher resolution texture, and implementing better particle effects. The lighting is what we're seeing making the color difference, but some of the lighting is definitely impressive. Not that I would buy the game again, even if I had a PS4. If you're on a budget, I would still go with the 360/PS3 version. If you have a PS4 or Xbone, need something to play, and haven't played Tomb Raider, go ahead! EDIT: For some reason I can't get the URL formatting to work with a title. Edited January 14, 2014 by Atomsk88
TheMightyEthan
I would definitely recommend the game to anyone who hasn't played it, but having played the PC version I have no plans to double-dip. *Edit* - Watching that video I do think Lara looks better in the new version, even though from the screenshots I didn't. Chronixal
I haven't played it and it seems like a good chance to jump on board and bump up the PS4 collection a bit.

Mister Jack
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's a terrible name. It sounds like the title of a Michael Bay film.
