Strangelove
They could have saved themselves a lot of hate had they just admitted it when it was announced. I wonder if it's 6 months or a year exclusivity though. All you really need is 6 months to steal sales from everyone else. I also just realized that its coming out on 360 in holiday 2015. Thats either going to be a really buggy game or the current gen version is going to be neutered to hell. TheMightyEthan
I'm sure the Xbone version will be pretty, but design-wise will be held back by the 360 version. Though maybe not, because Crystal Dynamics is developing on Xbone and a separate studio is porting to 360, so maybe it will just be a neutered version like Borderlands on Vita. TCP
Say what you want about Sony at least they're honest about "game X will be making it's console debut on PS4" or "and you can play it first on PS4".
Mr. GOH!
Is Sony paying you, TCP? I think everyone here prefers Sony/PS4 to MS/Xbone. Except maybe Ethan and Wally, because they're perverse.
toxicitizen
Yeah, it was refreshing as hell how during their conference Sony were very explicit "these are first-party exclusives" and "this is coming first on" etc. I fucking love how this exclusive bullshit backfired on Microsoft big time here. This kind of purposefully confusing messaging can go fuck itself and needs to stop right here. If you're going to be a blight on the industry with your shitty exclusivity deals, at least be open about it. It's only going to hurt you in the long run when people realize how full of shit you are.
Mr. GOH!
On the other hand, it's been clear for a while that unless a game is developed by a first party studio, any exclusivity will most likely be timed.
deanb
MS have always sucked for keeping hold of exclusives, not sure why there was so much confusion on this. Tomb Raider sold better on PS4 than Xbox One anyway (and no prizes for guessing why).

Thursday Next
On the other hand, it's been clear for a while that unless a game is developed by a first party studio, any exclusivity will most likely be timed. Mr. GOH!
That's why I said "most likely"; there will be exceptions. When the developer is second-party, but the publisher is first party, the game will likely remain on the publisher's platform (Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101). Do you have counterexamples? Am I missing something?
deanb
Looks to be much of the same which is good. Was surprised by how much I liked Tomb Raider. Just gotta wait a bit for it to hit PS4 n PC I guess.

SomTervo
May mean the more scripted/cinematic bits and the more ridiculous adventuring aspects. But this is only a short trailer. Unless they show improved open area design and more puzzles, I'm with Strange on this. Didn't enjoy this trailer that much. About to replay the reboot on PS4 to 100% it, that'll wash the taste of this out my mouth. Edited June 17, 2015 by kenshi_ryden
Thursday Next
Gotcha, I agree as it goes, that gameplay snippet was very linear. The open/explory bits of the game were (for me) much better. Just wanted to check what the "bad parts" were in others' opinions.

TheFlyingGerbil
Buying timed exclusives is the cheapest shit ever. At least buying exclusive content you can argue the platform holder is paying to make the experience better for their customers. All they're doing in the case of timed exclusives is making it worse for the competitor's customers. always seems to be Microsoft that does it. TheMightyEthan
We knew it was a timed exclusive, so it was never gonna be less than 6 months. *Edit - "Always seems to be MS doing that" - Sony is doing that with this year's CoD (though granted it's only DLC, and it's only like a month of exclusivity). Anyway, with this game at least, supposedly MS is putting in a lot of resources to help them get the game developed and optimized more quickly on Xbone, it's not that they're just paying them to wait to release it for PS4. Mr. GOH!
Excellent. I can wait a few months for it to hit PC. I'll probably still be neck-deep in FO4 until January, anyway.
TheFlyingGerbil
In my mind Sony buys exclusive content, but that may mostly be on ubi games? And I know they make more of their own stuff. it always seems to be after an MS conference when people are trying to detangle MS's double speak to work out if something is timed or properly exclusive. I guess it's because I naturally think worse of MS than the other two... I just wish the whole thing wasn't so complicated.
TheMightyEthan
I felt like people were being unreasonable when they were complaining about MS's statement about TR's exclusivity being confusing. I thought it was perfectly clear that it was a timed exclusive. *Edit - Man, I'm starting to sound like an MS fanboy ITT. So to put the record straight I think the timed exclusivity is lame and wish they hadn't done it. TCP
The problem is they went on stage at E3 and called it an "exclusive", they forgot to mention the word "timed". Since then, yeah, it's been pretty clear. Anyways, hopefully the PS4 version comes with all the DLC and what not. I'm fine with waiting, the first one was good, but not day-one kind of good. Plus, assuming that No Man's Sky comes out late 2015/early 2016, I'll still probably be playing it in holiday 2016.
