New Year's Plans

We've got a Resolutions thread, but I don't think we have a New Year's plans threads.

What are you folks doing in the big ol' real world?

Dunno about you, but Halloween and New Year's are the two holidays I used to be the most depressed to spend alone or not doing anything interesting.

This year though, it's been a bit different, and I haven't minded it so much.

Chances are I'll be drinking and blasting some digital life forms this New Year's, though there's a slight chance one of my flaky best friends might make an appearance.

You folks - watcha up to?

I'm staying in this year, a couple of friends are planning to come over so we can make our own party. I went out last year but that was a... strange night, way too crowded, way too expensive, way too drunk and way too dangerous on the way back. We got stuck in a street with fireworks flying all around us. It was a fun night, but this year I want to stay home.

My friends throw an annual party. I think this is like the fourth year? Basically a big old host of us (probs around 30ish or so) descend upon the house, drink lots and lots, put on one act plays, sketches, and sing silly songs, then commence a dance party until late into the evening. People all own houses in the same area, so we park at one and walk to the party and then walk back to whichever house we decide to crash at. Should be rather epic. It always has been.

The parents will be out of town, I'm staying home reassuring my cat we'll face the apocalypse together. She's normally not easily impressed, and random bangs don't do much, but once 12 o clock hits and the audible orchestra of bangs commences, she makes a run for the bed.

I think much like last year, I'll be grabbing some comics, some icecream cake, some tuna for her, and we'll both hang out under the bed again. I find that if I join her, she'll come out from under there when I do, instead of staying there for 3 days, nails firmly planted in the wooden floor.

So yeah, a solo act for me, like always.

d-k i'm impressed by the dedication to keeping the cat sane.

i really don't like going out on crowded holidays so i'd prefer to stay in and maybe drink a few beers but i'm probably going to get dragged out at least a little bit. i'm just hoping to not be in too many crowds or be on the roads with all stupid drunk drivers. i hate crowds, because i hate people, and that's what crowds are made of so going out on new years is not my favorite thing.

That's something I could've said. Word for word. Except for the fact that my friend doesn't even bother trying anymore. Like you, I don't handle crowds well. Couple that with the fact that I consider anything over 3 of 4 people a crowd so yeah, there go public places during fesitivities. I think it's both a personality thing as well as a sensory input thing. If I'm in a restaurant, for instance, I find I have a hard time trying to differentiate between sounds, trouble concentrating and I tend to get uneasy, even violent if the situation persists and I have no means of escaping from said situation.

Kind of like in Bruce Almighty, when the prayers gang up on him. Messes me up.

My friends live too far away and there are no concrete plans. Plus, the local train station is closed, meaning no easy transport to somewhere like London (not that going there on NYE is great).

Apparently, I will be stuck at home with my parents. Might see if I can get my mum to watch (more importantly, understand) Inception. :P

edit: Nevermind looks like I'm going to be torrenting as much as possible.

My housemates will also be raiding.

If they're raiding, won't they be pissed at you for torrenting and slowing the connection to crap?

Or does that not work that way in England like it does here? Orrrr are you smarter than me and figured out how to use Bit Torrent without it basically killing the internet speed for everyone else in the house?

That's the point. His housemates canceled on the plans to go out so they could raid instead, so he's pissed at them, so he's going to torrent as much as possible to fuck up their raid.

*Edit* - Also, my plans were originally to sit around and play videogames while my fiancee was hanging out with her friends (I too dislike large groups, especially large groups of people I don't know well), but then some of my good friends from undergrad decided to get together, so I'm doing that instead. We're not going out though, just over to one of their apartments, and there will be like 5 people there including me.
