diedan
What's everyone reading right now? Anything awesome? Recommendations? Favorite books? ALL THINGS BOOKS!
diedan
Currently I'm in the middle of reading both The Sandman and The Walking Dead. I'm only through Book 3 of The Walking Dead (and I haven't started the show), but it's got to be the most depressing thing I've ever read. In a good way? I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I'm loving The Sandman too (through Book 4), but unfortunately I'm getting those through the library and they were all checked out... Chronixal
Not reading anything at present but feeling the temptation to re-read The Hobbit. I've been interested to start getting into the Discworld series but would have no idea where to start. I usually get at least one book over Xmas so I'll probably end up reading that. diedan
I've been interested to start getting into the Discworld series but would have no idea where to start. There are just too many! Honestly, I've read probably 10 of them, but it's always tricky where to start. My favorites are all the ones from the Death series of books, so: Mort, Reaper Man, Soul Music, Hogfather, Thief of Time. I really, really enjoyed Small Gods as well. It's been so long since I've read those...
Chronixal
Do they run in any chronological order or can you pick them at as you please? If the latter, I'll give one a go the next time I'm in town.
diedan
Do they run in any chronological order or can you pick them at as you please? If the latter, I'll give one a go the next time I'm in town. They're not really in chronological order, but they each have a main character or theme and it tends to help to read those in order. So, if you read the Death books, I suggest reading them in order; or if you read the Rincewind books, read those in order, etc. Wikipedia has a good list of them all and what the subject matter/main characters are: Wikipedia
Chronixal
Ta much, I'll keep that in mind and give that a look in the near future.
AcidCrownie
I'm currently reading The Hobbit. First book on my Journey through Middle Earth. Well, I would be reading it. If I weren't so caught up in Dragon Age.
Mudkip3DS
Tim Powers' On Stranger Tides (1987 Edition) by mudkipNDS, on Flickr Yup, the exact book that inspired Ron Gilbert to create the Monkey Island series, and I'm reading it right now! Awesome book cover is awesome. Reminds me of the Monkey Island 2 boxart, actually. Though since this book is an old antique (1987 edition), and the cover is just a dustjacket, I've resorted to using the recent release (2006) with the underwhelming lackluster cover in order to preserve the older one from my terrible greasy hands. I've also recently finished Freakonomics and SuperFreakonomics on my leisurely spare time, and The Great Gatsby for my class. All I can say is... Daisy's craaaazy, Nick's cool, I mourn for Jay and Wilson and Tom's a d-bag.
Chronixal
The pirate in that second image could not look more camp if he possibly tried.
Mudkip3DS
I think if he actually tried introducing himself, it would be like, "Herrrrrrp! I be Cap-ti-onnnn Dreadlocks! Derrrrrrp!"
Chronixal
More like "You can swordfight, sailor. But how are you at the Rumba!?"
MetalCaveman
Currently not much, I'm going through some anime and videogame magazines I bought the other day, tomorrow I may buy The Hobbit since many have recommended it, and I may re-read House and Philosophy: Everybody Lies, or some of the Lovecraft Anthologies I have. Bouchart
The last book I read was The Big Short and that was some months ago. I'm not a big reader.
superfrogsavestokyo
Just started reading Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. It's okay so far for being the first of a series published this year. I wish I had more time to read and game. Subway reading time isn't cutting it anymore. Battra92
I just finished the third and final volume of Shelby Foote's "The Civil War: A Narrative." It took me a year to get through the war (about 1/4th the actual war length) and I'm not sure where to go next. I'd like to get out of the Civil War but I'd like to keep with American History. Any ideas?
slithy toves
have you studied the revolutionary war period at all Battra? there is a lot of american history fodder that makes for some great reads, both fiction and non-fiction. ben franklin biographies are always a good time. Minirova
I haven't read a book in over 5 months, but I stopped in the middle of Shadow's Edge which is book 2 of the Night Angel trilogy. Very cool trilogy of books, the first one was full of twists and turns I never expected. Probably going to pick it up again soon and start reading again. In a nut shell it's about the life of one assassin in a town ran by assassins. There's a bit of magic involved and what-not. I wish I could describe it better so I could actually give it justice, but I don't want to ruin anything. I was going to link the wikipedia article but in the first sentence it ruins quite a bit. I highly suggest reading the first book, The Way of Shadows. http://www.amazon.com/Way-Shadows-Night-Angel-Trilogy/dp/0316033677/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_c
Yantelope
Has anyone read The Witcher books? Are they any good? The last book I read was "On Basilisk Station". I didn't enjoy it much. My friend keeps telling me to read the rest of the books but I don't have the stomach to.

Yeah I read a lot on the Revolution but nothing as complete as the Civil War stuff I've read. The biography of John Adams by David McCullough was amazing! superfrogsavestokyo
Picked up a Twilight Zone inspired short story collection from work today. "Genesis", the first short story in the collection was the one that drew me in. I tried to guess which segment it was based on but was at a lost until it dawned on me a page away from finishing it.
