TheMightyEthan
Americans don't seem to like uncomfortable humor as much as you Brits do.
Thursday Next
Yet, it seems to be popular enough that MTV will spend a fair amount of money making their own version of it.
TheMightyEthan
But it seems like every time a British comedy is remade in America it loses a lot of its uncomfortableness.
Thursday Next
But a lot of them fail... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1597954152019000687 Please excuse the poor quality (and the bad picture).
TheMightyEthan
Most new comedies in general fail, British imports or not.
deanb
Carboot. Full name: carboot sale. It's a market of sorts, usually held in a local field area like a school, race course, park, etc where people sell old (though some increasingly selling new items) stuff via their car boot(..trunk iirc). Normally on a table mind. Well.. wallpapering table usually (light and easily folds up into car). Â Good for finding antiques, items no longer on sale, cheap books and games, random toys etc. Â What is a swap meet?
Luftwaffles
So I'm in England for the first time ever and have a few questions and general remarks. Â What's up with "Mind the Gap?" It's a London Underground thing, I guess, but it's everywhere. I rode the tube for about 45 minutes yesterday and heard it at least 20 times. Did it start as a joke? Â I didn't realize "Keep Calm and Carry On" was such a thing. In the US it's always been sort of an image macro/meme, but I've seen it all over here. Â Orange Juice comes with "Juicy Bits" rather than "Pulp". That's just adorable.
deanb
Mind the Gap: There is a gap between the train and the platform, don't get your foot in it or drop your wallet or phone down it. It's a safety warning, not a joke. Â It is a meme of sorts here. It started life in WWII as a propaganda type poster. Few years back an original copy was discovered in a post office attic(iirc) and it gained a sort of retro chic popularity. (Which means "always" in US is a couple years at most) Â Why the hell would we put Jarvis Cocker in our orang juice? Â Â
Hot Heart
Orange Juice comes with "Juicy Bits" rather than "Pulp". That's just adorable. If you want cute, buy some 'Innocent' brand drinks and read the packaging on those.

It's a safety warning, not a joke. Â I got that, it was just repeated so much throughout (on the tube and on the platform itself) that it seemed overly redundant, almost like a running joke. Maybe I'm wrong. Â Â Why the hell would we put Jarvis Cocker in our orang juice? Â I was actually going to comment on that, but I figured it wasn't the answer. Unless it is, and in that case all I can say is "awesome". Â Â If you want cute, buy some 'Innocent' brand drinks and read the packaging on those. Â Now I want to. TheFlyingGerbil
I hate all that faux cutesy nonsense that's on packaging these days. They're certainly not the worst though. The converse, but equally annoying trend is having children doling out zen advice or parenting their parents. SO annoying.
Johnny
I hate the children giving out advice thing, but that Innocent packaging gave me one of the truest laughs I've had in weeks.
Strangelove
You know what's great about you English? Octopussy. Why, I must have seen that movie...twice.
excel_excel
That fucking inbetweeners US trailer. Fuck it. FUCK IT. You know what pisses me off the most? That fucking fat. Its like they always have to sneak in the fucking obnoxious fat kid who says all the one liners. FUCK YOU MTV.
TheRevanchist
I'm with you, excel. There is no reason the fat kid always has to be the comedic relief or the born loser. That reminds me of Not Another Teen Movie when the character of one black guy says something along the lines of 'I'm just here to say neat phrases like bling-bling and...'. Shit's true. Fat guys gotta be The Fool instead of King Lear.

TheMightyEthan
I believe the NaTM quote is "I'm the token black guy, I'm just sposed to stay out of the conversation and say things like 'damn!', 'shit!', and 'that is wack!'"
