Ugh, this damn game!

It's so easy to get sidetracked when you start doing random stuff.

I'm sorta stuck in the main quest. I have to clear out a cave but a few of the enemies in it are very hard to kill, so I gave up and went to some town, figuring I'd do some guild stuff to level up a bit. Well, I just spent the whole damn night getting my mages guild recommendations -_- So much for wanting to stick to the main story!

But about this part I'm stuck on,

I went to the Azura shrine to get a daedric artifact and now I have to clear out a cave with 5 vampires in it.

Ignoring the fact that I almost always immediately get infected when I try, the two damn orcs in there are next to impossible to beat for me. Any tips? And I'd rather not go the cheap route and just put the difficulty slider all the way down :/

Could always do what I do. Become an alchemist, brew healing potions out of every single alchemical ingredient in sight as I travel.

Then pot spam. Hehehehe. However, this way takes a really long time to do since you need to gradually raise the skill level of your Alchemy to be able to create potions of suitable restoration to your health. I guess you could also spam the minor potions, but I think there's a limit on how much you can chug in a 5 minute period.

Otherwise, cheap is best. Whatever you can think of that gives you an advantage!

Word of advice: don't get Azura's artifact unless you want to keep it for yourself. You can actually get a unique artifact from each of the Daedric gods, and the game pulls a dick move by "kindly" escorting you to Azura's artifact in the quest log, which happens to be best one in the game.

Thanks for pointing that out. I actually found out about another shrine while talking to a random NPC, and realized that perhaps I could skip the vampire cave and still proceed with the main quest. Of course, I need to be level 10 to start the quest of the shrine I found, but now I just need to find another one.

What do daedric artifacts do, though? I had no idea they had properties outside of...well, being daedric artifacts.

In other news: I got accepted at the Arcane University and they gave me a freaking staff! That is awesome. What did the Blades give me? A fucking katana and some armor that I can't even sell! I really want to finish the main story so that I can consider that I "beat" Oblivion, but shit, the heir of the emperor is looking pretty damn cheap right about now!

Oh and I was wondering about the Oblivion gates. It seems every single time I venture off the beaten path or get sent just slightly outside of a city, I run across 3 or 4 of them. Surely I'm not expected to close them all? They seemingly spawn at random and frankly I find the "dungeons" they contain to be rather boring. And that's after doing only 2. So, yeah, what's the deal with that?

You could close all the gates if you wanted to. When you complete the main questline all the Oblivion gates will be closed (which is a damn relief). Oddly enough, I and a lot of Oblivion players agree that in quite an ironic twist, the Oblivion gates are the worst part of Oblivion. It's a dungeon crawl in a game that is mainly a free-roam RPG, which kills a lot of the immersion of the game, really.

Okay I'm starting to love mods quite a bit!

I've accumulated quite a few very useful amulets and rings but for some reason the game limits you to 1 amulet and 2 rings.

HUMAN BEINGS HAVE MORE THAN 2 FINGERS, BETHESDA!

And I'm pretty sure I could fit a good dozen of necklaces around my neck. It would look fucking ridiculous, but that's my prerogative!

So anyway, found a nice little mod that removes that limitation :)

In other news... don't steal whatever offerings a now deceased person made to whatever god. That god will appear behind you as a stone tornado. Now he can add in a few bricks I shat as I ran away.

At least I took him out like a bitch I am with arrows from a spot he can't hit me from...

Wait, so you killed a God?!

Oh and quick question: so the Oblivion gates close when you finish the main story. Does that mean you get to keep playing after the "end"?

Because like I said, I wanna focus on the main quest, but I do have a ton other content that I still wanna play, like Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles. And after I'm done saving the world, I intend to take a darker turn and join the thieves' guild and the Dark Brotherhood. So I just wanna make sure I won't end up being screwed out of it by a definitive ending.

I suppose if you consider a monster to be a god... like that poor fool did. The Fallen One or whatever its name was. Doesn't matter now...

Also doing stuff my way without any prior knowledge is tough. Walking into Mordor (Oblivion) sure wasn't easy... which means I'm underpowered as hell walking into there. Having most of my stuff near breaking didn't help... at least once I got out, I hopped onto my stolen horse right in front of people... which got me arrested, sent to a town where I promptly bought 21 hammers.

First run, hell yeah!

Hahaha, yeah, sounds about right. You should look into getting a mod to "fix" the enemies level-scaling, though.

Because the leveling is broken as fuck it's easy to screw it up and end up too weak for your (and by extension, the enemies') level. In my first game years ago I made a stealth-based character, and coming from playing lots of dungeons & dragons as a teen, I took acrobatics and athletics as major skills without really understanding what I was doing. Then I proceeded to run and jump all the freaking time, which leveled me up, but my combat skills were inadequate for my level.

Doesn't the game have a difficulty slider though? I know it doesn't fix level-scaling but it would at least make the game easy enough, right?

I did that once when I was simply unable to kill an enemy (the Azura quest I mentioned earlier). He went down in like 3 hits. Then I felt ashamed and promptly reloaded.

It was much more satisfying to come back a few levels later murder him dead without cranking the difficulty down, though I guess that normally wouldn't work without a mod.

lol... That always troubles me. So many games have that limitation. Balance reasons, I'm sure. But it's still silly.

Bethesda is releasing a boxset of Elder Scrolls 1 - 5 plus all the DLC, probably is: only for PC.

I'd love to get something similar of Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim optimized to run on PS4 at some point. ...I just really want to play through Oblivion and earn trophies.

I think the biggest problem with TESO combat is that after Skyrim and Oblivion, it feels impactless. It also doesn't instance dungeons, so you are running around a crypt with probably a dozen or so other players killing all of the enemies before you get to them. I walked through with no fight to grab an item and at the end of the quest my conversation talked about some ghost who was hard to fight.

Gave TESO some more time and I've come to really enjoy it. If you stop thinking about it as the next Elder Scrolls game, then it leaves some to be desired, but if you think of it as a MMO in the Elder Scrolls universe with some vague attempt at action combat its OK. The quests are pretty basic, but as you get more into it they become more complex with decent story lines and the game become more interesting over all.
