TCP
Uhhh.. Dean, they actually shot episodes in NYC and Utah, not a Quarry in Wales. The first story arc in season 6 and The Angels Take Manhattan. So what exactly are you arguing? EDIT: IN FACT.... why am I arguing this?! I legit don't care. Legit. Anywho... here's my top 5 list of 12th Doctors, so when one of them is named the Doctor tomorrow, I can quote this and we can all discuss how accurate I am. IN NO ORDER: Rupert Grint (He finally goes ginger) Daniel Radcliffe (Cause you know, British actor) Ben Whishaw Idris Elba Richard Ayoade Edited August 4, 2013 by The Cowboy Poet
TheFlyingGerbil
Daniel Radcliffe may be British, but he is not an actor. He's so stilted he always draws you out of the programme as you're so aware he's acting. He'd nearly be as bad as Christopher Ecclestone. deanb
I guess I'm now arguing that you don't pay too much attention in Doctor Who The episode of Buzzcocks you posted the gif from Tennant even makes the joke himself about "I've been to many planes in the solar system and you'd be amazed how many of them look like quarries in wales". Obviously they do on-location shot for many of the episodes but it's quite the running joke much of it is done in welsh quarries. (Also I double checked the actual episodes of new who, and none of them have any production credits, creative credits, anything at all related to CBC, just the regular BBC and BBC Wales branding. You sure CBC don't just stick themselves on over that in Canada?) Everyone you listed is a British actor, and Daniel "Harry Potter" Radcliffe would probably be one of the worst of the bunch. In fact Rupert "Ron Weasley" Grint, Richard "Moss" Ayoade, Idris "Luther" Elba, and Ben "Q" Whishaw would all be a bit of a bad choice. Someone who is a bit of an unknown or someone with history of just minor roles, or dropped off the map for an age, no preconceptions of the character/actor. TCP
I wasn't talking about any of those episodes though, just the season 6/7 episodes. Everyone knows the first time Doctor Who shot in North America it was in Vancouver for the 1996 movie. So, let it go? And if you guys don't like my choices, post your own
deanb
You wouldn't know a half a century old running gag if it slapped you in the face would you? I've already mentioned many times that it's likely to be an unknown.

TCP
Interesting that the Fires of Pompeii had both Amelia Pond and 12th Doctor in it under other roles.
deanb
I'm somewhat disappointed it's an established actor, but Capaldi will be good and it'll be nice to jump the age up.
TCP
He sort of looks like an older David Tennant.
toxicitizen
As expected, I haven't the faintest idea who that is. Kinda glad to see an older Doctor, though.

TCP
Coolest thing about the new Doctor? He use to be in a band with Craig Ferguson, also they did acid together: http://youtu.be/YD7Dz_1u2Jo
deanb
http://12thdoctorbutthurt.tumblr.com/ - Hmm. I shall make a note that many are upset he's a white male (and old), but not one of them has complained it's another brit. Told ya.
danielpholt
I'm not a Dr Who fan, but i'm really pleased to see that they went with Capaldi. I'm also enjoying all the 13 year old girls on Tumblr moaning about the fact that he's not a 25 year old pretty boy.
Thursday Next
I think he's a great choice. Can't wait for the new series.

deanb
“Why is it so hard to conceive of a female Doctor, or a black Doctor? For the same reason that it’s so hard to conceive of a female president, or a black prime minister, or any world government or economic power not largely controlled by rich white men: because we cannot imagine it,” From the New Statesman, via "let's fix fix video game blogs" Penny Arcade post about TV show Doctor Who. Let's just do a very minor adjustment “Why is it so hard to conceive of a female Doctor, or a black Doctor? For the same reason that it’s so hard to conceive of a black president, or a female prime minister, or any world government or economic power not largely controlled by rich white men: because we cannot imagine it,” Hmm. I wonder if folks realise how rude they're now being too. Smith's departure was announced in June, that's a good month+ of speculation and positing on why and which black female actors should play the Doctor. It's now been announced as veteran actor Peter Capaldi, who will be more than suitable for the role, yet despite this choice being made, a choice that'll be around for the next few years at least, people are going to chose now to bitch that Peter Capaldi isn't a black woman? The accusations of a show being ran by crusty white men (most producers are young and there's generally been a pretty equal split on women and men at the top) who are only going to pick white dudes is pretty fucking stupid too when these crusty white men have seen fit to have a wide variety of companions cast, representing the human race on these voyages. "Oh yes, the time travelling alien should represent the diversity of 21st century western society, and not the 21st century companions he picks up". deanb
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24038234 There is a lot of content coming for the 50th Anniversary. So keep eyes peeled if you're international and wanting a watch of all the extras. It's not often BBC get's to flaunt it's long running franchises. Thursday Next
"Other highlights include a BBC Two lecture by Professor Brian Cox on the science behind the hit show" I'm sorry what? There is science behind the show? I think not! Still, any excuse to give Brian Cox airtime is good with me.
deanb
Well there is some science there. Like in the earlier '05 titles there was the dopler effect. Also they're reckoning now there's bits of the universe that are bigger on the inside. Meh, regardless of what it's like once there's a Brian Cox show things can only get better.
deanb
http://www.doctorwho.tv/whats-new/article/50th-anniversary-to-be-simulcast-in-over-75-countries-and-cinemas#list To be "simulcast" in 75 countries. So you can watch it at the same time as us brits. And given it's BBC America, I assume ad-free too.
