Doctor Who

The Beeb has found some lost Doctor Who episodes. There's a total of 106 missing episodes which is more than I realised I wonder if they are all out there somewhere, and whether they'll be found or not. Has anyone watched any of the very old episodes (e.g. the William Hartnell ones?)

It's scary to think of all the socially and culturally important programming the BBC destroyed over the years. I assume that everything is kept nowadays, but I wonder when they started wit that.

That's good! It's crazy to think after all the money and hard work that went into each episode, they'd just wipe it and the episode would be gone forever but I guess storage space could be an issue..? Hopefully if there's anymore episodes out there, they'll get found and digitized soon, who knows how long those old tapes will survive if they're not kept in ideal conditions (and even then they'll start disintegrating at some point).

I watched the first episode last year, there was very little resembling the resurrected show. Still, the idea the Doctor not only has children but grandchildren is interesting, hopefully that's touched upon in the 50th, since it seems like the 50th is going to deal with The Time War and the Doctor basically wiping his people (including his family) from existence.

All the money? Part of point of Doctor Who was to be quite cheap what with it just reusing period piece sets from other BBC shows. I don't think they ever foresaw celebrating it's half centenary at all in the future. And yeah storage was somewhat an issue, they now have large chunks of disused London Underground for storage, and plenty of film was wiped and re-used (film wasn't cheap back in the day).

  • 2 weeks later...

Synopsis was released today:

The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th Anniversary Special: in 2013, something terrible is awakening in London's National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor's own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.

Still no idea where the 10th + Rose and John Hurt's Doctors are coming from.

....UNLESS.... could the alternate dimension that Rose and clone 10th live in have it's own Doctor? Was this ever stated one way or another? Maybe that Doctor never regenerated past John Hurt.

Or um.. I don't know.

Unless I'm missing something in some of the media released so far pretty sure John Hurt is

The Time War reincarnation. So between McGann as 8th Doctor, and Eccleston as the 9th Doctor. In fact it would be implied almost immediately before the first episode of the new run; Rose.

He is, as the 11th Doctor has implied, not a "The Doctor". Where Tennant will come into this all is unknown, same with if it's Meta-crisis or older out-of-time version.

Yeah she's pretty Badwolf in the trailer. Given the nature of Bad Wolf she was/is "always" Bad Wolf. From our perspective she was only Bad Wolf for a shortwhile, but as shown already with Turn Left, she did way more than just pop the Tardis into the future and re-extinct the Daleks. It would make sense that she was around for the Time War too.

I'd guess the red diamond device is "The Moment". And it has the marking for infinity on the side. It's going to be a fun watch. John Hurt man.
