danielpholt
A massive fan of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy I might check that out. I also believe the BBC did had a one episode run with the guy from The Green Wing, that seemed fun; didn't get picked up though. deanb
They did, not sure if it was as a pilot or just a one off mini-series thing. It's a Douglas Adams thing so always worth a shot. (Also Adam Savage did some of the crosbow props since he's friends with Max Landis (I guess through the parents given he's had his mum on as a panel guest before now). TheFlyingGerbil
It was Stephen Mangan from green wing in the mini series from several years ago - if you see him in anything it's usually worth checking out. I hadn't realised there was a new version which does explain why people were suddenly talking about it which I thought was odd. Glad to see Samuel Barnett in something good, he was in Beautiful People which I thought was hilarious but hadn't heard of him in a while. Oh and since this is the Doctor Who thread and not TV discussion, I guess I should mention that. I thought it was awful and I wasn't happy to see MAtt Lucas in the teaser at the end of it - I find him really annoying so was hoping he'd be confined to that one episode. TCP
Today I heard the suggest that Hayley Atwell should play the Doctor. It was such a brilliant suggestion I can't get it out of my head. I know it's probably not going to happen, so now I'm disappointed.
TheFlyingGerbil
I kind of loved the idea of it being Sue Perkins to lighten it back up a bit again as I think it's got a bit too angsty. Obviously with Mel as the sidekick. That's even less likely I'm sure.
deanb
Olivia Colman I've seen mooted and I quite like.

deanb
I quite liked this episode. I guess I should watch the Xmas special at some point too.
deanb
So this series has been pretty dang good so far. Sentient fuel spill bit of a weird start but otherwise solid (albeit it really bad "Thames ice splitting" VFX). Latest episode was pretty dang good, and looking forward to upcoming episodes. I quite liked the student house too. Very realistic, and I don't watch Poiroit so it took me a while to realise why I recognised the actor. He was pretty good. Also I love Bill being lesbian means that there will be no "oh buy I wuv you Doctor" stuff from a companion. Hopefully; Doctor could regenerate female. Oh and the Doctors current disability is kinda cool too.
TheFlyingGerbil
Quote Pearl Mackie has been hugely popular with fans as the Doctor's new sidekick on Doctor Who, but behind the scenes? Not so much. Perhaps she's too focused on delivering a good performance on screen, but Pearl just seems to forget her manners on set. Her behaviour was described by various members of the cast and crew as ranging from "grossly rude" to "eye-wateringly rude" – and she also spent a fair bit of time giving unrequested lectures on acting to the Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi. Of course, Capaldi won't have to deal with it any longer as he's not coming back next series. But if the rumours going around are correct, neither will she. Pop Bitch is seldom wrong so we may be seeing a new sidekick to go with the new doctor. Shame, as I was quite liking her on screen.
deanb
Ah that's a bit sucky. She is pretty good but yeah being funky behind scenes, especially on Who can lead to being dropped (see Eccleston). Be weird to be giving acting lessons given IMDB shows her only having two other roles prior to Who, whereas he's been around for decades. deanb
This latest three parter fell a bit flat. It started kind of strong with that twist reveal near the end, second was quite good with that lab (the guy with a hangover previously played the dad in "My Parents are Aliens" which was quite amusing). But the finale was just a bit crap apart from Missy being in it. The whole "love conquers all" ending sucks and generally always will in Doctor Who. Species creates an extremely realistic simulation, is able to create a mass delusion, capable of near omnipotent acts, and yet is defeated by wuv. deanb
I've not watched last nights (been a bit busy) but the "next time trailer" is hype I like how The Doctor has kinda just abandoned keeping Missy in the vault. Also based on the thumbnail, it seems the VESA mount and VGA cables are still going strong even in the far flung reaches of space.
TCP
Incredible 10/10 ending.
deanb
Kinda knew it was coming given he's revealed as being in the Christmas special. Assuming we're talking about Argus Filch returning at the First Doctor...though technically not, this'd be his first time as the First Doctor, he originally played William Hartnell. Also this makes him the third actor to portray a side character and The Doctor, having been on Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. Had a thought: it'd be kinda funny if The Doctor regenerated into Michelle Gomez (Missy).
TCP
Glad I stayed out of the rumour mill for this season. I heard something about Walder Frey playing the First Doctor, though last I read on that it was debunked (guess not), so I was surprised when I heard his voice. Under Moffat's reign we've had, War Doctor, 8, 10, 11, 12, and now 1... that has to be a record. It definitely wasn't Moffat's best season, I'd still take Smith over Capaldi any day, and I missed Clara, but Bill was great too. And the season as a whole was OK, though might have been better as 10 episodes than 12. Wasn't there a Victorian episode? You could cut that one, I don't even remember anything about it. And maybe the one with the Roman soldiers in Scotland or the Mars one. I wish they actually had the nerve to kill Bill (lololol) instead of whatever bullshit that was at the end, but the rest of the episode was good enough I can look past it. Bring on the Christmas episode and hopefully a Spring 2018 launch of the New Doctor.
TheFlyingGerbil
New Doctor to be announced this Sunday. Any last minute guesses as to actor/gender/race?
deanb
Yeah... I don't follow Wimbledon so I've no idea when the reveal will be. I kinda liked the suggestion of Olivia Coleman. Not keen on the idea of the My Family/BT guy who seems to be a favourite.
TCP
A FEMALE DOCTOR!??!
TheFlyingGerbil
She's a great actress and a good fit. I'm confident she'll do a good job. Let's just hope she has the material to work with, having a woman for the first time there are a lot of potential missteps. Saturnine Tenshi
Neat. Love the change. Think she's a good fit long as it doesn't get preachy, which falls under potential missteps I suppose. toxicitizen
Oh damn, they finally did it? I really need to catch up on the show. Haven't watched since Capaldi's first season cause I kinda wasn't feeling it.
TCP
There's some real good Capaldi episodes, but I was never sold on him. Out of the modern Doctors he'd be behind Smith and Tennant but ahead of Eccleston for me. I think you eventually get use to him though. His last companion Bill was also very good. The conservative snowflakes are having a meltdown on Twitter right now. It's delicious! Also this is great: To appease male fans, Doctor Who announces every Dalek will have visible penis. Saturnine Tenshi
I think Capaldi was one of my favorites if not my favorite Doctor.
toxicitizen
Yeah, it wasn't that I had any problems with Capaldi himself, it's just that for me no one could possibly follow Smith and not feel like a downgrade. Smith was my favorite Doctor by far. His last season was kinda weak but the first two (the cracks and the whole silence thing starting with the impossible astronaut) pretty much turned Doctor Who into one of my favorite shows ever. I also really enjoyed Smith's introduction, I was engaged from the very start. But with Capaldi I was like 5 episodes in and it was some stupid bullshit about robot Robin Hood or whatever and I'm just sitting there the entire time thinking "Fuck this".
